@beatplusmelody, that's a great fit - they look made for you!

@Maynard - your comment about not being a fan of slim jeans seems to be a recurring theme among you folks who have a ton of experience around here.  So this is a general question to anybody: what's up with that tendency?  Is it because roomier straight fits were the original way jeans were made and you all favor something "classic" over modern?  Or do you actually think roomier fits provide an overall better aesthetic - regardless of any historical context?  I personally prefer a slim cut, moderately tapered, but not skinny - just like what we see above.  IMO if you nail a slim fit properly (not the easiest thing to do!), it adds nice visual length to your legs - the opposite of what often happens with roomier cuts.

...But I'm relatively new to all this actually-caring-about-denim madness.  Maybe I'll "see the light" one day and want nothing but pre-1950's repro.  We'll see!

Wish they'd redo the SD-2.. series in the Cone (?) denim.

I'm finding I'm wearing my Raleigh more and more, the Cone has after much wear and wash started to look really good, and all said and done, I prefer sanforised.

Finding sanforised with a higher waist / rise in a looser leg is not all that common.

What is it about sanforised that you like? I personally can't deal with it, that initial sheen that is on it drives me nuts.

Well, in my case, a ton of experience = too old for slim jeans! Also, my body shape (big thighs) does not sit well with slim jeans so I've never really been into them, but if you like slimmer cuts and they look good (like your Full Counts or those SDAs above) then I say go for it. Different stroke for different folk, no need to follow the repro crowd. :)

Bradl, bit more SDA discussion here (thanks Sugar Mountain) - osaka-five/page-2

SDA were one of the original Osaka 5 founded in 1979, the other four being of course Evisu, Full Count, Denime (Hayashi!) and Warehouse.

Yeah, I was flipping through that, but was seeing if there was anymore. Most companies it's quite easy to find their history, and how they've gotten here. But not so much SDA.

This is my problem, too.  Some old guy chasing after kids in skinny jeans sagged down around his ass is a sight no one wants to see.  And like Maynard, I have relatively large thighs, (33" waist with 24" thighs) so I can't even put on some of the slimmer fits.  I've got nothing against well fitting slim jeans on others, though.  I think it looks great when well done, and there's certainly no need for all of us to be walking around in 1955 501 repros.

Of course, I say this while wearing a pair of SDA x-33s, which are based on the 103 fit.  I did size up to a 36, though.

That's a good find. They won't stretch too much but the fit looks good on you (though I'm not a fan of slim jeans myself). As they've already been washed they won't shrink any further, so just wear and enjoy them and earn that stretch, they're a fine pair of jeans.

If you want something still slim-ish but a little looser, it may be worth going back for the 103s too!

I would go back to cop the 103s if they were my size but they were a 29.

Thanks. They weren't quite perfect but its getting there. Day 4 or 5 now and can finally get that fourth button on.

I have fairly chunky thighs as well but I have a fairly lean body shape so straight slims usually compliment me very well. I picked up Uniqlo's Selvedge Regular Straight cause they were down to $19 and I can't stand that fit. They take me back to a time when all I wore was Superstars.

For me it all boils down to room for the jewels.

I hate feeling constricted.

Haha it's been an uncomfortable few days. Have been doing squats in them. Fairly painful.

I can get all the buttons on now so that's a relief. It's very cozy but not uncomfortable. The only downside I've noticed is that whoever shipped these off to the place I picked them up folded them pretty poorly. There's a crease from the fold that is causing leg twist that I've been trying to flatten out over the last day before the stacks settle in but not sure if it's working. At the moment the stitch line is just about touching the laces of my shoes rather. It's so awkward looking so hope I can train em.

Here's some more pics for those interested.

The leg twist isn't caused by folding, it's a characteristic of raw (unsanforized) denim. When the fabric shrinks, it skews along the line of the twill (right-hand twill in this case, so the twist is to the right), so you'll just have to get used to it as it won't go away.

Just learn to embrace the leg twist and wear it as a badge of honour - I (and countless other enim afficianados) certainly do! If not, you can always buy sanforized or prewashed non-selvage denim in the future.

Lately, I've been revisiting some of my older Studio D'Artisan pieces...

Last week I put on 2 items from their 30 years anniversary collection:

D01-30 and D01J-30

I understand that the thread colours might not be to everybody's liking - but that's Studio D'Artisan and how they do things sometimes!

^ These are a slim, black 15oz denim, according to BiG. The size charts indicate they are roughly true to size in o/w and if this denim is anything like the 15oz rht blue version used for the SD-10* range, you can probably expect about an inch stretch in the waist, but little more. In general, SDA denim does not stretch easily.

Really, really good vgadjo, I always enjoy seeing well-worn SDAs.

EDIT: I love the 3-D effect that the whiskers on SDAs produce. My 101s have it too, although not quite to that extent.
