Nothing exciting, but got my jeans back from getting some darning work done and gave them a wash. Light was perfectly flat this morning and these pictures feel probably more accurate than most I’ve posted. Happy to have them back. Tracks starting to appear, still not much in the way of marbling, I think I’m probably past the point of that happening much. Little tiny blowouts starting to happen on the back of each knee - usually when that happens the honeycombs are more prominent but on this pair barely visible. Hem and pocket update for fun.16 points

As seen above, we spent the past week up at a friend’s cabin on a dammed lake in the mid-Sierra, fed by the south fork of the Stanislaus River. More on that later. As a little sneak peek, here are some shots from a lovely morning hike that I took on Friday, feat. contest jeans, Great Lakes hat + shirt, JK boots. The original idea was to make my way up to the peak of nearby mountain, center background in this shot: The approach to the ridge was scrambly, but before too long I hit a trail that seemed to be going in the right direction. Left the trail again before too long to follow the sound of water, which turned out to be (I think) the nearby Herring Creek Climbed back uphill to the path through a couple hundred feet of chest-high bramble… …and made my way to a spectacular vista point From this last perspective, the peak I was planning on hiking up is to the far left. The gorge to the right feeds the inlet to the lake, seen above. It’s straightforward to hike from the lake part way up the gorge, up to around the large pool seen near the bottom right of the gorge photo. In the past, I’ve made my way up far enough to see the first of the heavily wooded sections (slightly right of center), but have never managed to get there from below because of how steep the walls get to either side of the river. Looking down from above, it seemed like it might be plausible to work my way down to the wooded section by following the shoulder of the ridge (a.k.a. the Large Granite Slab). This seemed to align much more closely with my interests than waking the rest of the way up the mountain, so I scrapped the original plan and plotted a rough course into the gorge. This ^ was the final approach, around 4–500 vertical ft. down a ~80% incline slab of fully exposed granite. Intimidating, but Komperdell, JK, and lots of experience off trail in the Sierra were on my side. The oasis at the bottom was well worth the anxiety at the top. Some of the absolute prettiest water features I’ve ever seen. Stopped for lunch and a beer (ca. 10 am…time runs different in the mountains) and made my way back down to known territory.11 points

We all know Kojima, Okayama to be the main area for denim production in Japan, yet in Fukuyama (Hiroshima prefecture) apparently 80% of Japan's denim is made: https://www.japantimes.co.jp/satoyama-consortium/2023/02/21/satoyama-consortium/fukuyama-japans-city-denim-spins-surge-public-awareness/ Granted, it is directly next to Okayama prefecture. Companies like Sakamoto (dyeing) and big mills are located in Fukuyama. Another map with big names in it: https://www.japandenim.jp/supplier/7 points

I finally sat down and made myself a website. Just a few wallets on there now, but I’m in the process of designing some new bags. I’m not charging for my time, just taking the material costs x 3-4. https://ateliertg.com2 points

Yep, all signs point towards it having just sat in storage for 30 years, but the leather’s still in great shape as far as I can tell—plenty soft & supple Tab looks brown through and through, and the lettering’s still pretty white, so I’m guessing it was this color from the start Love the United Carr hardware1 point

Agreed, and I am a slim guy so it is to be expected. Will still wear them regardless - great stove pipe leg in my opinion. Would love to see the fit on you once you get them back.1 point

@cottonskinblues sweet progress, did you encounter much stretch/shrinkage? Any photos of them on? @okimoto tricky as I think the volume in the crotch/hip area is inherent to the cut. That shape in the leg looks sweet to me though. Just dropped mine off to be hemmed and will try and grab some photos when they’re ready.1 point

Please excuse the double posting. Went for an impromptu bike ride yesterday since I finished work on the bathroom earlier than anticipated. Mtb trails are closed so I rode over to the metropark about 3 miles from my house and pedaled around there. Pretty nice spot, and the ride through the neighborhood was nice too to be able to really take in all the cute houses.1 point

Envious of you lot that can wear denim jackets in June! These spent about 8 hours in the Texas sun (chilly day here, only 91 F / ~32 C) and they're bone dry now. Starting to see a little marbling pop up. They'll go back on the legs tomorrow.1 point

Class scouse denim there la... I was once out on a night out in Liverpool when I saw the Brookside actors queueing to get into a club... it must have been their party... so I went up with my mate and said 'eh Jimmy lad can we get in with yous'... and I recall, as surely as a long time ago can be sure, he said 'yeah alright, but only you'... I erm made my excuses and left... I once also met Bev in Cream (I think it was a Boxing Night in the early 90s when Farley Jackmaster Funk made a barnstorming appearance), we had a boogie as you do and it turns out she was my mate's cousin... clearly we need to transfer this now to the Nonsense thread The big question though... is Trevor Jordache's chambray still buried under the patio with him Martin?1 point

No bother, i'm happy to help. The M40313s just add to this great resource so kudos to your friend for finding them and noticing that they are a little special. Since the death of GeoCities JP .. (which was never great) this is the only Sugarcane M-Series resource on the webz.. so for years now, you notice the info from here copy/pasted into Yahoo / Mercari / Carousell sales posts, where thrifters have found an old pair of jeans, searched the product code which sends them here.. their WTF! moment when they find a 500 post thread regarding the 30yr old jeans they've just found always makes me smile.. Now, if i can just figure out a way of monetising it.. i'll be rich!.. rich, i tell's ya!1 point

This page is out of control. Excellent stuff everyone. My dad and I got the chance to embarrass each other last week at my local hole in the wall where my friends/castmates run a weekly jam. Black and white spy shots by my platonic gal pal Melissa. Embroidered Denim vest 90s Cash Rob Kap belt buckle Mister Freedom Outlaw Dad-ception. He sang 50 year old originals. I sang him Paul Simon's Kodachrome.1 point

Follow up from the small questions thread (and vintage denim thread) - my partner and I both got some new pants today! I got some buzz chinos that I really like, wider than I imagined but still like the fit, and my partner got some nice dark 80s Levi’s. Don’t focus too much on my terrible haircut lol 😛1 point

My partner traded for some 80s Levi’s at a vintage sale today! They’re a model 26501-0118 with a paper patch, non-selvedge but still beautiful denim, and a 2 2 stamped on the top fly button. Anyone have more info on them at all? Some photos & closeups of the patch, fabric and some nicely sloppy back pocket stitching:1 point

A guy is selling this nice vintage Lee 101-J jacket: What puzzles me is that it has an internal label that, as far as I know, should be from the 60s (with made in USA and the R mark only) but on the left pocket it has a label with R+MR (that is more 70s) when I was expecting R only. It has a 82 in the back of the buttons Does anyone know if this can still be dated from the late 60s? Was there some transitional period with a mix-match of R and R+MR? I own a 101-J with "opposite labels" R+MR in the internal label but R only on the pocket, it's all very confusing... Any help is appreciated. Thanks1 point
