Torrential downpours, debris flows and mud slides today in Sierra Madre, so not going anywhere - as per usual in the week! Warehouse, Warehouse, new FC 1101SSWs and some new NB 574. @Thicolas Rage - these are the trainers I mentioned in the other thread when you asked about trainers with jeans. I think they look great. Not MiUSA like my 993s but these look better with jeans IMO.7 points

I have a pair of wallabees going on10+ years and while they are worn to hell they are still kicking. The longevity of the crepe sole is incredible, a decent quality crepe sole is very hard wearing3 points

Do it! I liked the 47s so much that I had to get the 54s. The new xx banner denim is one of my favorites.2 points

Update about the Kotoka derby shoes to whoever cares - after some correspondence with them via fromjapan, the insole length of size 28 is 29 cm, width is about 10 cm. Alas, they are cemented and not welted or blake stitched, which I think is a no go for me. Bummer.2 points

Incredible shoes for the money! The only thing standing between Clarks and a pricing upscale is the retail environment.. it's stuck in the 90s.. style classics like Desert boots and Wallabees (or Cornish pasty shoes as my Mrs calls them :) are sharing retail space with orthopedic shoes for pensioners or 'my first shoes' for middle-class toddlers.. if you didn't know the Clarks brand and saw them in a modern retail space (ie 1940s - Mom n'Pop -esque:) .. with some carefully curated blurb, they'd retail for 3x the price they do now..2 points

For many years I have been eyeing the ”new” version of the TCB Type 2 jacket. I got the old version in a smaller size but found it too slim for my liking. This time I sized up to a 46 so I can layer it with a thicker shirt or a sweater. I’m really happy with the fit. Much better proportions from the old one. sorry for the bad picture 😕2 points

As promised, here's a video of my talk. Just gone out to mailing list subscribers, but for people that aren't on that, here it is: https://mediaspace.wisc.edu/media/Understandable+Design+and+Perfect+Imperfections+with+William+Kroll+of+Tender+Co./1_8yi6cv0u/171463141 A bit in there about superfuture and how great our community is in general, and some examples of member's Tender clothes, although I could have sited many more. I checked with the only person who's visible themselves (thank you!), I hope other members won't mind their things being shown- I only used images already posted publicly.1 point

Thanks @Hopethisoneisnttaken Did you ever see the W&A work shoe which Kurt stocked at Faith (Taiwan).. might be a bit before your time in forumland, they had a restocked size 10 in recently.. it's a lovely shoe, especially the brown / ox blood colour. I almost bought a pair many years ago.. then the guys on the IH forum went insane for them after Giles suggested a group buy and it put me off somewhat.1 point

I have a couple UES Henley Thermals and they're very nice. They fit slim, but have a lot of stretch.1 point

@ATWM now (2 weeks ago or so) all the AI models vanished from the webshops. Wonder what happened? Maybe the big L didn't like the arcs... Anyway, back to your question: honestly I have no idea. I will focus on the WMJ 4-5 days a week and wear other pairs on my "days off".1 point

Regarding MiUK Vs MiAsia Clarks... if we take the longevity of the crepe for instance.. it's just a bunch of latex, formed into a sheet and cut into soles.. With our noticable lack of rubber plantations we will be buying the rubber from abroad.. this isn't going to be liquid rubber.. it will be pre-formed rubber sheet bought from the country of origin... it's cheaper and easier to transport solids than liquids.. plus we would have to set up an expensive manufacturing facility just to make the liquid ingredients into sheet material which could be bought in for a fraction of the cost.. With rubber being so cheap / plentiful.. are we to believe that the Asia made Clarks are cutting corners here and requesting additives be mixed at source into an already cheap rubber material to make increased but poorer quality units? .. or is this just down to rubber being a natural product.. therefore some pairs will be softer, some pairs will be harder and some pairs will last longer than others irrespective of brand or country of manufacture.. also environment.. heat, cold, UVA, rain, frost will all decrease it's lifespan.1 point

Yikes! Has this always been the case and you guys use another site / proxy service or is this, dare I say it, Big Don T related? @Geeman, @Double 0 Soul, @willi absolutely, all due respect to Clarks, they do a great job and hold great status as an iconic brand, and as @Maynard Friedman said, the made in UK line hold up pretty well. My "crap Clarks" comment was aimed at the prolific made in Vietnam ones you see on the high street here and online. Good to hear the anecdotal evidence on long lasting crepe soles too! I have long assumed that the longevity of it as a sole material is down to its density, I've had a couple of pairs of Clark's that have felt very soft from the start and rubbed flat pretty quickly. Never the miUK type mind!1 point

I bought some Astorflex desert boots (made in Italy) 10 years ago and they’re still going strong. I didn’t want Clark’s as they’re all made in SE Asia these days, apart from the limited Made in England line (in Leeds I believe) which are quite a bit pricier.1 point

Yes, Charlie. Could well have been that one. Wish I could remember the movie. I guess it must have been color. Late 50s probably. Maybe I'll do some digging and try to find it. 5 minutes later...So it's The Man From Laramie. Brown corduroy, and on close inspection of various pics on the IMDB site, I'm fairly sure it's a Wrangler jacket. And furthermore...Bend Of The River 1952 he appears to be wearing a green Levis type 1, likely the same one from Winchester 73, and perhaps Broken Arrow from the same year.1 point

^Possibly? On your second point, l've seen quite a few black and white westerns, usually 40s or 50s, where the main and/or secondary characters are wearing what looks to be either a light tan/mustard or brown generic type one or type two, sometimes with metal buttons but mostly with sewn on types. Your comment above reminded me particularly of Jimmy Stewart in Winchester '73.1 point

@vIGGiou riou Thanks It’s funny you ask—I was a little worried about further shrink, so I tugged on the legs a bit while they were wet. They feel like they’re about the same length they were before, so either they did shrink more and the tugging worked or they didn’t and it didn’t. Who’s to say?1 point

Could be customized by a studio tailor. Looks like the cuffs could be folded over 'French cuffs'. On a similar topic I recall seeing actor Jimmie Stewart wearing what appeared to be Levis type 2 jacket in a mustard colored corduroy. Must have been a custom piece, right? Or did Levis actually make that?...1 point

I like the Parker Knoll Statesman chairs. So I contacted a local upholsterer to ask if she'd be able to re-upholster one if I could find a chair. Better than that she said, I have just got hold of a knackered one to refurbish... the chance coincidence was too good to give up. Given the state the original was in, it was basically a new build based around the original frame. The twisting mechanism had to be repaired and is 'vintage rickety' which adds character methinks. There was fun and games with the fabric... the first boucle fabric sample held onto everything and was a nightmare to clean so that had to be replaced with new fabric... anyhow the job was finished in Dec 2023 so the chair's been in use over a year now and part of the family... Final pic there including recently received copy of Mongrel Kampung by our very own @oomslokop1 point

I speak as someone who owns only one pair of Warehouse jeans and no Denime, with no special liking for or animus against either company but... Does anyone else think Warehouse have basically ruined Denime? I know Denime has been through a series of incarnations already and aficionados might think it long since had its day, but it just seems mad now. Without ever having handled any, I knew basically what the 220xx was. I might have sprung for a pair at some point. Now every time I look on Bears there's another epicycle on an iteration of a version of it. It makes my head spin. Warehouse's numbering and style variations are hard enough to keep track of even if you're a fan. Did they have to do the same thing to Denime?1 point
