I bought my last clothing item of 2024, yesterday. Picked up a Flat Head LS Glory Park off eBay for cheap. I will be going on a buying hiatus for the duration of this contest. I have done this a couple of times, but only for a year at a time, so wish me luck. For me, it's a good reminder of how easily I go from "wanting" something to telling myself I "need" it; it saves you a decent amount of cash but, crucially, "re-love" items I have forgotten about. Anything during that time that I know I won't wear or didn't enjoy wearing goes up for sale. My 311s will be a good steadfast reminder of keeping to that promise. I'm looking forward to starting this contest. Happy New Year, fellas!11 points

I do this quite a lot.. not usually with acetate but with most other resins.. polyurethane, polycarb, acrylic ..ect Forget the Dremel, one false move and it's fked. If i was you i'd unscrew the arms and mask off the lenses front and back, then use 100grit sandpaper to create the desired shape, if you want it to be more of a chamfer than a rad, wrap the piece of sandpaper around a small block of wood.. bit of 1/4 ply or summat (1.5" long) .. get the shape right, then move to 320g sandpaper to remove the sanding marks, then 1000g wet n'dry, use it dry.. then 3000g wet n'dry keep dipping them in a bowl of warm soapy water the soap acts like a lubricant.. finally 6000g grit.. you can polish them back up with Brasso or T-Cut and for a super-polish, i use whitening toothpaste, keep them wet while doing so.. if you want a finished shine some resin car wax/polish works a treat. I wouldn't recommend any polishing machinery. If you find the acetate quite soft, use 240g instead of 100 and 600g instead of 320, you'll only know this by trying it.3 points

To reshape you'd need the pro equipment i.e. a heating box full of tiny glass beads (looks like sand). Even with this you need to be very careful. I've watched my optician manipulate a number of vintage frames I've brought in. He'll get to a certain point & say, 'I think this is as far as I can push it'. He'll offer to go further if I take the responsibility for breakage but I've never took the risk. Regarding sanding off edges, you'd also need a means of polishing them back to a high shine.3 points

I just posted about this in the Word of Mouth thread haha3 points

Thanks both! Sounds risky, especially on nice frames. I’m only really looking to take the sharp(ish) edge off, they fit perfectly so would need to do so without affecting the overall shape at all. I’ve got an old inexpensive pair lying around which I may attempt it on. I’ve got a few polishing wheels for the Dremel I could try. It’s really such a minor detail it’s almost not worth it but as with most of the topics here, those minor details can make all the difference!2 points

Late to the Tender party - learned about this brand a few weeks ago. Got a pair of saddened wattle dyed 136 jeans from neighbour. Bill was super responsive to some of my questions on ig 😌 Rare to see this level of customer engagement. Some wears and washes later, the color’s setting in really nicely and the lovely marbling is starting to show.2 points

Happy new year all! Kicking off ‘25 with a slightly bizarre/stupid question. Has anyone ever tried ‘shaping’ acetate glasses? I’ve got a pair of the Japan made Tart Arnel glasses which I wear as my daily RX. It’s a bit nerdy but one detail I admire on vintage spectacles is that they often have a very soft bevel around the edges of the frame. These days most glasses have a sharper angle around the edge. Before I get the Dremel out and ruin a great pair of glasses I wondered if anyone’s actually tried anything similar?1 point

Just received my pair of Fullcount 0105 WW2 brown denim edition and as you can see in the photos, they aren’t exactly ‘wide’ on me. Funnily enough, they probably fit me closer to an actual WW2 repro then what I imagine the 0105 is supposed to fit. Sized to a 29 for my natural waist which was snug but has already stretched out nicely. Based off the measurements on Bears however, I wasn’t expecting such snug thighs and top block. In the side profile photo you can see they are borderline skin tight on the upper thigh (I can probably pinch about 1.5cm of fabric off the upper thigh). I was really banking on being able to size for the waist given all the discussion I see online about their generous thighs and also by collating measurements across distributors so they are already hemmed — hoping the magical 13.7oz fabric stretches out in the thigh/top block. Can anyone speak to stretching in that area?1 point

A few days ago, went back to my hometown briefly and saw some good friends, 25 years or more I've known all of these guys. None of us bowl, so it was a comedy of errors but a good time. The bowling alley in our town is almost no different than what it was in the 90's, save for the addition of electronic scorekeeping really. Even most of the arcade games are the same, though half were out of order. Whoever was running the jukebox had a great affinity for Ozzy and AC/DC. The t shirts were Creed centric. Almost like stepping in to the wayback machine. But, the place was busy!1 point

Hi Dr H, Good to be back. My 20s 201s are also 555, Both my 47s and 55s are from near the end of USA made cone denim and they are both really nice. As good as some early LVC pairs I had of those years. My 1880s still have most of the buttons. I have had to resew them several times. I have worn them a lot over the years. Really faded and a few spot repairs were needed over the years. ha ha. I didn't realize this but the ones with the sewn on buttons, the denim pockets and the mock felled inseams are pretty rare. The 1937s I recently bought (on sale btw) are made in Japan. The buckle on the cinch is the older version and not the correct version. IIRC the correct version for the 37s is the two toned one like the one on the 1933s. Also recently bought the 53 type II trucker (on sale to). Also made in Japan with Japanese denim. The denim is really similar to the denim on my cone 1955s. Fuzzy for lack of a better word. Really nice denim and much different from the denim on my 47s and 33s. I have lost some weight so things like my 1905 209 coveralls are big on me but I still wear'm ha ha. From what I understand those 209 overalls are pretty rare to. I have the ones with the two horse linen patch and the only came pre distressed. I'll try and get a few pictures in the next day or two. Cheers, Allen [img]1 point
