And a perfectly faded hoodie I saw for sale last month. Talked to the seller and the current best offer was over $600!

Look at the how it faded around where the hood was.

Had to save the pics.

I should have been buying and saving sweats all these years.

1970s bootleg  "Super Mann" Velva Sheen raglan sweatshirt.

Saw this at the antique mall last week but foolishly passed it up since I don't really do red. Went back a few days to snag it. $20 well spent.

Super soft and stretchy 92% cotton 8% acrylic, seamless tube construction, started life as XL but has shrink down to a pretty trim medium. Super thick screen print.

Best guess is this was a bootleg made to capitalize on the success of Richard Donner's Superman:The Movie back in 1978.

And one that got away.

A vintage reseller I follow posted this on Instagram.  I immediately expressed my interest and called dibs and I was prepared to pay far too much but despite following their Instagram and website religiously for the next 5 days this somehow escaped my grasp.

( I have a feeling a friend of the seller contacted them directly)

The best I could do were these screenshots.

Vintage "Casual Wear" short sleeve sweat.

Just a hair too small on me unfortunately.  Nice heathered dark pink / faded red color, and the inside texture is far more interesting.

Seeing these vintage sweats selling for big money reminds me of the haul that got away...hindsight etc...My high school was still using old school athletic gear up until the mid-1980s. Around 1985/6 they transitioned to "modern" fabrics like nylon and current (for the time) Nike shoes. So out with the old Onitsuka leather spikes and Chuck Taylors and in with Nike waffle racers and Jordan 1s...and also out with the thick 100% cotton Champion sweats, with the xtra long cuffs etc.

At some point the school district must have thrown away 1,000 pieces or more with the school logo and cc/track & field/field hockey/tennis etc emblazoned on the the chest, with the sizing etc. If you figure a vintage Champion sweat is selling for, what, $200-400, then do the math...of course no one knew they'd be worth squat so that's why vintage is pricy...and it was no fun to train in those old Champions -- heavy, restrictive, baggy etc...

I had a grey Soul II Soul embroidered sweat which i bought in the late 80's from Jazzie B's shop in London, my then girlfriend (now wife) used to use it as an oversized boyfriend sweat.. a few years ago one sold on ebay for £400 so I went hunting for it.. i said 'have you seen that old Soul II Soul sweatshirt of mine' ? Oh I threw that in the bin years ago 'why'.. i spilt nail varnish down the front when i was painting my nails in bed.. wtf! they're selling for a small fortune nowadays.. 'well if it makes you feel any better it was Chanel so i was upset too' ...No not really!!!

That's a fantastic colour @JMS

@peter1 Great story. Likewise, if I were any older, had lived through the 70s 80s, etc. I would've been buying up vintage Levis left and right... The sad part (for me) about vintage clothing is, one wonders if the majority of the 'run-up' in the price has already occurred. Meaning, for younger guys like me, becoming a part of the vintage scene means big $$$, when 20 years ago vintage sweats were 1/10th the cost, for example. On the other hand, if vintage prices continue to rise due to basic economic principles, supply and demand, then the vintage world will become only ever more exorbitant. Is there a point where it becomes so costly, that it morphs into something far unlike what it is today? I do wonder what the future of vintage clothing looks like, insofar as it represents nicely the growing inequality to accessing certain 'paradigms of culture'; furthermore how these paradigms are becoming new forms of social capital, and the clothes not just 'plain old clothing'. What was once an endeavor tied more so to culture/community and less so to capital is now all but perfectly commodified, swirling around in a sea of identity curation for the wealthy. All that said, I still do find 'value' in vintage pieces even at these prices, even though I wish that type of thinking were removed from the equation altogether. It should be noted I write this as someone living on the coasts of the US, though it does seem that in our global economy these prices are a global phenomenon.

Can anyone recommend who's making the shortest body/cropped sweatshirts at the moment? It seems like every brand has added a few inches to the body length the last few years and that is the opposite direction that I was hoping for. Great for all the long torso/short leg folks I guess but what about us short torso long leggers? The old Buzz were great, I've heard the Warehouse 401 was ace but it seems they've also joined the trend and gotten longer. No use bringing up Atlast &Co since I'm more likely to capture the extinct Tasmanian Tiger than figure out how to buy anything from them. Maybe I should be looking at women's sweatshirts

Equally annoyed about warehouse changing the shape of the sweats. The old 403’s were perfect for me.

Two Moon sweats are (or were, when I last bought one) cut quite short and boxy.
