Wait, but what’s the graffiti all about...?

 

It’s Wychbury obelisk on Wychbury Hill. Who put Bella in the witch elm.

In 1943 a few kids were out hunting in the nearby forest and made a grisly discovery, a skull and a pair of ladies shoes in the hollow of an old wych elm tree. Naturally they scarpered and told their parents as soon as they returned home. The police made the full discovery the next day and with signs of foul play. Regrettably neither the perpetrator nor the victim were identified. As WWII was in full swing (see, this drivel is on-topic) the authorities had a lot on their plates and it seems quite common that crimes and disappearances weren’t properly followed up.

A couple of years later numerous white chalk graffiti ‘Who put Bella in the Witch Elm‘ sprang up in the surrounding area, including the plinth of the obelisk, all in the same hand. Despite being removed it always reappeared at the obelisk, nowhere else. It’s been removed repeatedly since then and even right up to 1999 reappeared in exactly the same hand (creepy huh?). 

They stopped removing it in ‘99 and put a fence around it a few years later. Needless to say the place is totally haunted and I’ll be damned if I’m going there after dark.

Hi @roomtemplacroix - how do the TCBWW2's fit compared to your Warehouse 1946's? - are they pretty similar in what you like and are less keen on? They both look good on your pictures..

Jumping in, I have both pairs and to me they feel significantly different. That being said I sized up on the contest jeans, TTS on the Warehouse.
The rise is a lot higher on the contest jeans and the top block feels a lot more forgiving. But that's probably because they're two different sizes, however the patterns feel a bit different to me.
From the knee down both pairs feel pretty similar though. Main difference is the top block, WH are a bit trimmer in the hips/thighs/waist while my TCBs are a bit big everywhere.

Thanks Broark - I wondered the original Levis models for these years would be the same shape wise (?) - while appreciating they are made from TCB's/Warehouse's own interpretation and specific pairs they're working off.. I remember it said the LVC's ww2's were too slim in the thighs but don't know how slim that was...

From a future possible jeans  - . Its interesting the Warehouse 1946's are trimmer as that topbloc shape is often the widest and unsurest part of Warehouse (maybe the different size tho)

TCB S40's have one of nicest fits for me - not having the hip flare (bad version) I can get when I go for a baggier pair of jeans

I actually was after a baggier fit in them than they turned out  - but its a happy accident

I‘d sell my 32OW. Waist measures just shy of 30”, inseam is 31” and front rise 13”. Haven’t seen water and tried on for just a few minutes. PM if you want more info folks.

@Chris T i think @Broark summed it up pretty well. i did the opposite. i bought TTS in the tcb’s and sized up on the warehouse. the rise on the tcb is so high that even one size up the warehouse rise is a little shorter. my tcbs fit really narrow through the hips and waist and my warehouse are very loose. both jeans from the knee down are pretty similar. the warehouse have a bit more room in the thigh, but that might be because they’re a size up. hope this helps.

I sized up on mine: but tts is very much possible at the larger sizes for sure... the size up with the high rise leads to pretty masssssssive top block if wanting a clean fit with tucks [I generally don't, so all good there...]

#16 reporting back in...

I exchanged the 33 raw contest versions for a new batch 34OW. Soooooo much better. Waist was extremely tight at first (measured at 32") but eased up within a few hours to a comfortable snug fit. The rise is huge, but these fit way better than other jeans I have with high rises (LVC '44 and Edwin Nashville) because they're not too loose through the rest of the top block. Here's a couple of poor quality fit pics, with and without the jacket. Maybe an 18-month contest will encourage me to learn to use a smartphone camera properly. But I've had five years to do that before now, so maybe not.
