There was the green hardback book called Where Is Silas? My copy is gathering dust somewhere in the loft but I did find this on my little rummage.

Cheating a bit as this is my parents neighborhood and not mine. We live about 2 miles southeast, across the highway. The not so nice part of town. :D

Now come on B. the whole spirit of the thread is to show what's actually there, remember "the more mundane the better" nontheless it's a nice neighbourhood, where does all the water come from to keep it looking so green, is there a nearby trickle of a river that was once a raging torrent?

It's a green and pleasant land in the UK but on the flip it pisses it down with rain for 10months out of the year and the few weeks/decade when it is as dry as Texas everything is scorched af :D

Edit- nvrmnd, Ive just read the line about 'aquifer' .. move along people..nothing to see here

It's sometimes tricky for us Brits (or should i say, me) to grasp how much space you guys have in the US... yeras ago i asked a friendly-forum member

"Next time you're passing such and such a shop can you swing by and buy me such 'n such and send it over?"

"Hmm.. that's downtown"

"I'm in no rush, whenever your passing"

"Im not, downtown is a 3.5hr car journey for me!, it would take me most of the day just to get there and back"

Oh snap! 'Town' is a 10min car journey for me...i can drive across the entire width of our counrty is 3.5hrs :D

Streets made for skateboarding @justintk B)

This is about the emptiest I've ever seen it, even when I've been out at 3 AM there are more cars normally. But it would be a good ride for sure!

The scale is definitely different. I live in "Chicagoland" but it could take me an hour to get to Lake Michigan in Chicago. Most of the people I know in this area don't really go to Chicago any more (and not just because of the current events).

No worries, I don't answer the door anyway! The town is called Wheaton. Basically directly west of downtown Chicago.

If you're looking at a map I would say "Chicagoland" continues on past me to about St Charles or Geneva. And the passenger/commuter train that runs through my town goes out to Elburn.

Walked a different route today, Selly Oak ,Brums university town towards the city centre along the old canal network.

Great posts all.

Especially enjoyed yours @redragon

so for me today... some more concrete....

lived in London some 25 years now: different areas in this order: Morden, Tooting Broadway, Putney, Brixton, Walthamstow, Aldgate (Tower Hill), Putney again, Stockwell, Camberwell (been here 15 years now)

as with any city each area is like a completely different town: the North South divide is real here, as is East West...

With Camberwell it used to be deep South and off radar as there was no Tube / Underground, but now it is slowly getting colonised... I splurge-rage on that in the denimbro version of this thread; no need for repeats, just find it on this page...

I have also posted pix of nearby Peckham when picking up a Boncoura piece from Alpha Shadows here

today we have corona-chan edition...

pt.1

some pix back in march of local mega-market cleared of products by the 4x4 drivers... no bread, or booze...

NB24nhSh.jpg

6MdXxaRh.jpg

whereas in our local turkish supermarket industrial sized bags of flour and catering sized tins of tomato puree covered the gaps caused by frenzied shoppers elsewhere...

qmwyCfih.jpg

and in Peckham (a cough east of camberwell) a few weeks later the sterling Wing Tai supermarket had shelves positively bulging with rice, fish sauce, more greens than any other stores, and yes; for those needing to barter b_F for his CSF: lots of noodles...

some other lockdown pix of Peckham...

...

then other directions... heading a little north of camberwell, one heads to east dulwich, a few yards up we witness something for Maynard's love of architectural juxtaposition... a famous comedian's house that takes its cues from the social housing opposite rather than the tracts of victoriana housing it nestles within... article on it here, old telly on it here, curtain twitching discussion group here

6mQRbPZh.jpg

a little further on, bigger social housing facing off less resonant new developments...

HCGG0kih.jpg

& bonus over-wintering ice-cream van and the queue to get into the mega-mart...

a little further on and some rugged styled hyper-trimmed barber shots and nuanced leafleting...

some local park instances:

a netted horse, a blocked sanctuary, an entombed shrine to abs...

and nearby, Kings College Hospital helipad where I presume those needing ventilation fly through the air day and night...

...

abruptly changing tack... and for another architectural tour... off camberwell church street is a hidden nook where studios, picture framers, gardening services and other small scale productions huddle from development (their neighbouring building - 'the piano factory' - a factory turned flats scenario...)

and to keep to associated corona-chan theme (as well as embedded traces of recent history that flutter on regardless) ... a medley of windows and messages around and about the nearby area...

Great stuff Bartles, hopefully I can find the time to convey a fuller impression of the NW10/6/2 intersection but here are today’s dog-roaming musings - a bottle tree and a Buddhist temple.
