Ok, just got back from a city trip to London. Needless to say London is a great city and I thoroughly enjoyed myself going all tourist and shopping mode. (my apologies for the quality of the pictures; they were all taken with a smartphone)

My kids enjoying themselves in the waiting hall to catch the Eurostar train

Upon arrival in London we couldn't check in straight away into our hotel so decided to start sightseeing immediately. Underground at Euston, our home base.

We took the underground to the Tower Bridge and grabbed one of the water taxis to Westminister to get a waterside view of some of the historical landmarks. The weather was great.

The Needle building and HMS Belfast. Wished I could have visited this battleship but my travel companions were not interested.

Big Ben which is called so not because of the size of the tower but the size of the bell :-)

On our way to Buckingham Palace.

Rivet & Hide was one of my primary shopping destinations; they have a great selection of brands and the service is top notch. Junior is a wonderful person; I had the chance to see him at work hemming a pair of UES 400T on a union special. I bought a Flat Head tee and leather bracelet.

Wanted to visit the Vintage Showroom because they sell Timeworn/Atlast clothing. They had this amazing blue chambray shirt with blue buttons but 235£ was a bit on the high side for me.

  • 2 weeks later...

Sorry guys for the lack of updates; nothing much happened the past couple of weeks worth reporting. Been wearing the jeans on and off because it's been very hot and I also wore some chino's etc

Anyways this weekend is the peace festival at my city; it's a commemoration of the liberation by the British from the nazi's. Since 1948 it was combined into a balloon festival which is special because the balloons take off in the middle of the city from the market square.

The past ten years it has also growed into a festival with lots of squares where bands play all kind of music and a world fair with lots of delicious food stuff.

The festival is three days long but since they forecasted the best weather on saturday, we decided to go on that day because it is the most chance balloons will actually take off.

In the morning I first had to take my oldest son to soccer game

arrived at the scene when the regular hot air balloons were taking off

29351551331_4fab76ea71_b.jpg

wearing the Denime's; the model has really grown on me; I like it a lot, not skinny and not wide

About 40 hot air balloons took off in quick succession but the most attention always goes to the special shape balloons.

This motor shaped balloon was the biggest present but unfortunately since it was too late in the evening they decided against flying but still a great sight

closed off the day with fireworks

Sounds good, but as I said - I'll be out of the country until the first week of October so I can't really receive them until then. Also there's no exciting travels to Japan in my near future. So if you guys don't mind that ;)

Of course I'd also be happy to just join the list and have someone else a go before me.

:D Well, my car (Dacia Duster 1.4, 105hp) tops out at only 180/190 km/h  ;)

Here's the thing about the Autobahn: it sure is nice that you can floor it and go as fast as traffic allows. But, there's always someone overtaking a truck while going only 10 km/h more than the truck does, or trucks overtaking trucks... and while you're building up speed again after slowing down for stuff like this, you get hunted yourself by BMWs and Audis - to them, you're the nuisance creeping along at 160 km/h... most of the time, it's far less stressful to just set your cruise control to 130 km/h and go with the overall flow. Easier on your wallet, too ;)

In fact, having driven over much of Europe with speed limits of 130 km/h in place (Austria, Czech Republic, Italy, France...), it's usually a lot smoother and more relaxing type of highway driving.

BUT - yes, it's fun to go as fast as your car can go when the autobahn is empty ;)
