This weekend, I went to one of Hong Kong's outlying islands, Cheung Chau, for some walking around the southern coast. The town around the ferry pier is very overcrowded at the weekends but a short sampan ride away to sleepy Sai Wan gets you away from the throngs of people and onto the rocky coastline...

yeah we have two gigs there aug 1st (evening time) and 2nd (afternoon, then we have to rush out to do a second evening gig nearby Nurnberg in Neustadt!), a meetup would be totally great if you're around.

Nice hues right there mate! And it reminded me I didn't post any pics from my mending session a week ago (except on Instagram) so here's a little update on my end:

 

 

 

And then we have the beer bonanza that I seem to be kicking in every update. What probably is the best damn beer I've ever tried is in the first pic - Mikkeller Beer Geek Cocoa Shake. It's an oatmeal stout that left an aftertaste of cocoa a full bloody hour after I drank it. If you like to try a little different kind of beers I definitely recommend trying any one of the beer geek-series. So far I've tried six and they've all been nothing short of great.

 

 

This one was a japanese red ale I had when I was out having sushi with a mate a few weeks ago. Nothing fancy but it was nice that they had imported beers that were not the regular Asahi, Kirin and the rest of the japanese mainstream beers.

 

 

And last but not least, the beer haul I've drank my way through the past week. Extra cudos to the west coast ipa from Green Flash!

some of my denim and not denim life in the last week

 

tcb tux and telnyashka shirts are my favourite clothes for this and any other season

 

my Bacchi machine has broken, waiting at the moment to receive a spare part and hopefully in a few days I should be able to pour world class espressos again, just bought some incredible peru mono origin coffee that needs to be tried..for now I am back to the napoletana flip over

that's the most used one I have, the original bakelite handles are not there any more so I changed them with two pieces of bamboo.

she's 1 yr old now, I'll wait another year to put her on a proper pair of selvedge haha! Might sweet talk Inoue San into making a pair for her, but probably he's too busy now for this kind of project.

 

brought the wife to order a pair of made to measure sandals in a local cobbler shop, I love the mega boot they have at the entrance

Bobbo, thanks for the beer-spiration! Hitachino Nest has started popping up in a few restaurants in HK and goes well with Japanese food. One ramen place was pairing the different varieties with its various ramen dishes depending on how robust or spicy the noodle broth was. Quite a different approach and certainly better than Asahi with everything.

i love Hitachino Nest beer, only problem is the store that sells it charges fucking $5 a bottle....

 

RE: baby jeans.  I saw that Momotaro sold a pair of little kids denim but I cannot find it any longer.  Volvo, if you ever go the TCB route, I'll spring for a pair also!

 

also, crazy she's walking.  Ours just turned 10 months a week or so ago, and she wants to walk sooo bad but thus far its been just a random standing without support here and there

That sounds nice! A few restaurants (to my knowledge) in Sweden is doing the same thing. I've always found it odd to only have a beer menu consisting of lager, lager and another lager when there's so much more to beer and you can play around with taste combinations.

hey Gnome, she started to walk at 11 months, so you might be right about to see your little one making her first steps. Life got slighty easier since she started to walk, hope it will be the same for you!

Haha he's not with me this time. I am the only paisano here with a new pretty cool multi culti trad flute project, playing at a flute related event for a crowd of at least 80% flautists. As wanker as it can get!

Probably for the first time in years I'll come back from Scotland without hearing any pipes, that's excellent news for my ears health!

A little entry from me... We took my mother-in-law out for lunch at Nan Lian Gardens, a traditional Chinese garden right in the heart in the densely urban Diamond Hill. It's easy to forget the tower blocks and highways once inside though and it's a nice peaceful spot to spend a few hours.

 

 

 

 

Forgive the security guard stance! Some contrast is starting to pop on the denim now after seven months, but I expect these are going to end up with an overall fade given the soft fabric, loose cut and my monthly washing. I'm quite happy with how they're progressing.
