That's some great stuff right there @reubensangwich - in that last photo they are definitely a pair of '1937' 501XX but have had the cinch strap completely removed as well as the rivets (a little dark hole being the tell tell sign). Also that same first shot, amazing shape of the arcuate where it hits (almost) the bottom of the vertical side of the back pocket. Also, that pair in the middle with the match strikes, they are 1937 model also imo.7 points

Cool. I climbed Mt Agung back in 1996. Also climbed Rinjani (on Lombok). Never used porters, carried all the kit myself.7 points

In other news... a week away from it all, sort of, with la familia in Bakewell, Derbyshire… yep the Peak District again… only 90 minutes from home which met the brief… Nice crib for some lolling about after going out and about doing some swimming, some walking, some biking (more later, promise 😉) Stuff nearby... Walked up Stanage Edge with Mrs and daughter this time And spotted this Porsche and Ferrari cavalcade… the drivers were all a bit vanilla… I wonder if they have any businesses in Leicester? Canes 37s attempting to hide the shame of a gasso BBQ… I’ve got charcoal at home… c’mon let me off folks!!5 points

Same old for me.. We went up to my mums on Sunday to do some scrumping.. came home with a big bag of eating apples and a big bag of cooking apples. I took Monday off work because they were predicting a 4 day heatwave... pfft! Got up Monday and atempted to make freddo espresso pourover Cleaned the shed out.. Alas.. Monday was just mizzle and drizzle If you look closely you can just about see the MJ family on Stanage ridge I don't want to worry y'all but it's starting to look a little autumnal out there... trees of yellow and orange in mid August Merino baselayer unravelling Heather Puncture Crashed into a sheep .. got home just in time for the apple pie coming out of the oven. Yum! 😋3 points

I think my (somewhat strong) preference for gas is rooted in some of my favorite pots & pans not having fully flat bottoms. A small saucier will operate very differently if it’s only heated from the bottom; a wok won’t operate at all. That said, I’m sure that when we inevitably do make the switch to induction, it’ll just take a year or two to forget I ever had any complaints2 points

Heresy perhaps but what my jeans are doing is honestly cooking with magnets for the last few years. We replaced our gas range with an induction and I’ve not missed it for a second. No room here for waxing nostalgic about much! Our outside grill is gas, but gets little use!2 points

I even look down upon charcoal BBQ's which are not made from cast iron.. Cast iron is amazing for searing steak.. it gets mad hot so even when the heat from your charcoal is ebbing away, the heat retained by the iron grill is enough to cook with.. i fill my BBQ with an oak / charcoal combo.. chuck some 99.9% isopropyl on.. stand well back to retain eyebrows, light it and leave it to burn down.. by this time the entire cast iron BBQ is almost glowing .. sear the steaks with tongues, especially the fat, wrap them in foil to rest for 5mins while the cast iron cools down a little.. then slap them back on for cooking.2 points

It’s a personal taste thing I guess. To my preference it will look better when cuffed because I hate breaks /stacks.2 points

I didn't know it until this very second but i'm a absolute charcoal snob.. not only that but i will only buy Weber charcoal, that shit from the supermarket doesn't get hot enough and i only buy lumpwood, i never buy briquettes.. further more, i mix the lumpwood with 30% oak blocks from work to impart more flavour.2 points

Some shots of my M-35 pullover. These are made by Kaoru same as the M-54 jeans and Type IIs and the Bartack Alls stuff. There was also a different version for Foremost with the proper tin US Army buttons. I don't mind having donut buttons instead, less likely to drop off 😄 denim is pretty hairy (with a few extra dog hairs thrown in) Think the hem roping is going to be bananas.2 points

^ as you mentioned briefly in your last sentence, induction stoves that match the quality (of cooking) of gas stoves are much more expensive than their gas counter parts. At least that’s how it is here. I’m not sure it’s romance, I think it’s a much more practical.1 point

I know it’s probably doing irreparable damage to my system breathing in all the unburned natural gas, but I wouldn’t trade our ‘50s Wedgewood for anything1 point

Only the jeans are part of the contest and judging. It's testing my memory but iirc this came with my jeans as they took longer to arrive and I started the contest a few weeks later (which is unimportant as it won't matter in the long run). It's fading in my pocket nicely so I thought to share with the crew. There may be others in circulation, I don't know.1 point

I've been using this Char-Broil gasso grill all week... it's good and really convenient. Quicker time to get BBQing and less set-up faffing, less cleaning up afterwards and this one was cooking between 250C and 350C. Convenient al fresco dining. I'm hearing that the smokey taste of charcoal can be engineered too by burning one piece and drizzling it with oil then closing the BBQ lid but I never tried this. Preference for charcoal is predominantly on chargrilled taste and quality of end product, subject to using quality restaurant grade stuff, and not forgetting the feeling of being like a caveman making a fire @CSL I found this that made me laugh!1 point

^^What are you doing you weirdo! .. don't soak them folded, open them up, scrunch them around and agitate them a bit. Disclaimer.. i have zero evidence to support one soaking method over the other but i vehemently stand by my method!1 point

I think it's probably caused by the small shoulder measurements of the Merz tshirts. We will see how the Whitesville will fit after wash Edit: agreed with the prices of Merz. I think i bought all my tshirts on sale.1 point

Last pic might not look like it, but the waist is just sitting up there due to the stiffness of the denim - I probably have about 2 inches of room there. So it is proportional to the cut. I don’t find it out of line with what a raw pair sized up a bit (which is what it is) should be, to be honest. BEARS yes. I also sort of enjoy the packaging but then the addition of another box for the sake of it also makes me just wince a little bit at the same time. Just how I am wired. But here I am buying things I don’t need, so that’s on me. First impressions are on this pair are good though, I am so curious to shrink them down and wear them - but the time will come.1 point
