Been looking for one of these in a good nick for a long time... and finally, the day has come. I was mounting up to go the proxy route and go for the Archives one, but this ticks the box for me. Lee 101-J from what i assume is the late 60s/early 70s. Interesting how it has the "MR" on the chest pocket and not on the label, as i've seen on some. If you get the size right, these jacket fit like an absolute glove, i have to say.13 points

More dark denim with nice grainy texture... Gardener 579XX Funky type 2 style based off the Copper King Lot 105 jacket (thanks to @Lorcan for the link) Same denim as @beautiful_FrEaK's jeans – very dark and nicely coarse… delightful denim is a good way to describe it. I had that pleasantly masochistic anxious feeling that the pattern wouldn’t work... obviously after I’d bought it. But a lap of the park gives me confidence that once the stiffness goes, it’ll be grand. Spiral website said it right… ‘The armholes are narrow, the sleeves are thick, the collar is high, and the waist is tightly tightened. I think you will enjoy a unique silhouette that is different from Company L’ The jacket itself is longer length than I usually wear… the good news is it goes nicely over the longer Freewheelers sweatshirts which cracks that particular issuette. I might cuff the sleeves if I’m wearing a t-shirt as they are pretty long, otherwise I’ll embrace them. Very nice service from Spiral via IG. Happy... and few pics out in the garden (local field) naturally...12 points

@PrettyBoyTony go with your gut. From the outside, it seems like you think you should like these jeans, but maybe you don’t - and that’s ok. You may end up wearing them regularly, but never feel comfortable in them. Don’t waste your time, just move them on and move on to and try something else. I’ve bought jeans based on how they look on someone else, and I’ve hated them. I’ve bought jeans based solely on fabric and they sat/sit in my closet. I’ve spent years wearing jeans as I liked how they faded (based on someone else’s wear) and not based around fit; they didn’t turn out great (IMO) because ultimately they didn’t fit great. So much of this is trial and error, and ultimately you’re the one wearing the jeans and you’ll know when you find a pair you want to spend time wearing - not what you think you should be spending time wearing and not looking to be convinced as to what you should be wearing. ‘Yeah, well, you know, that’s just, like, my opinion, man.’6 points

I sized down two sizes for my SS's. I originally bought a 33 and then sized down once more to a 32 after the saggy butt and bunched up crotch became more apparent. As others have mentioned...if you're a shirt tucker I think the high back rise can look a little odd. I think sizing down two lost a little bit of the roominess in the legs I was looking for, but I still like the fit. If I could have the 32 waist with the 33 legs that would of been ideal for me.6 points

I give it a coat of Obenauf's before each wash. Not sure if the beeswax has anything to with preserving the pigment.5 points

This deserves more rep! Maybe not for everyone here but this is an amazing watch. My current favourite is a Junghans Max Bill, one of the original configurations, with plexiglass crystal. It's on a titanium mesh strap today but I also like it very much on black apple leather with Working SKEWed Slack Jeans4 points

I've decided to keep them anyway. They are so ridiculously comfortable and I think with the rest of the fit being quite baggy the anti-fit back should work3 points

I think this fit was exactly what FullCount wanted to achieve with their re-design of the fits?! Several pages back, there was a link to another website explaining eveything of the re-design. Edit: found it https://ogbros.jp/fullcount_new_jeans/3 points

This is how mine end up looking most of the time. The front sags a bit (to the point) and the back is super high. Doesn’t bother me too much when I don’t have a shirt tucked or am wearing a sweater but feels off sometimes when I tuck my shirt in. I’m also 6’1 which probably makes it more apparent. Definitely not the end of the world and still a nice fit in general but yeah, would love a more balanced rise.3 points

@beautiful_FrEaK thanks for posting that, I was about to go hunting for the link. Seems like you’re right and the resulting fit is as intended and I guess the roomy butt section sort of makes sense for sitting down comfort. Reminds me of the Ironheart pocket spacing a bit where it has a practical application that ends up impacting the silhouette. If I could get the beer fat to go to my butt instead of my belly I think the problem would be solved.2 points

@81FXR I don't know man. Your fit pics of your 0105s over the last few years are what really made me decide to give them a go - first with the 13.7 oz. I can't really see the issue you're taking about and the fit on you seems perfect2 points

Nice @MJF9! Hadn’t heard of the copper king jacket before it was mentioned wrt the Gardener release. I’m into the slanted square pockets. Hadn’t initially noticed the different pleats and lack of waist adjusters. If it wasn’t because I have a difficult time as-is getting wear into the few denim jackets have, I would be seriously considering this one.1 point

Actually I have the 1101 in XX and the 0105 in the 13.7oz. The back rise isn't as high with the 1101 and the leg isn't as wide. But it's still a pretty relaxed fit. It's a bit similar to the Denime Lot220A, but the front rise is a bit lower and the leg a bit wider.1 point

Contrast enhancement looks to be quite common last time I checked - which admittedly was some years ago. As for Ai being all marketing fluff, agree there’s a hype machine reminiscent of the crypto/NFT boom. It’s gross. but LLMs are also rapidly changing many things in a lot of fields. To personalize it, if AI helps in leading to more specialized and targeted treatments that can eliminate the rest of my son’s brain tumor - which is possible - I will absolutely sing its praises. It was already modern tech development that played a large role in why he’s still alive today. Or if it leads to something similar for someone else, same thing. And it very well may. AI generative imagery is also based on the theft of artists from everywhere is rapidly leading to an internet full of even shittier (and nonsensical) ads while killing many parts of the photography industry, where I started my career and still participate some. So my feelings are complicated but if I had to choose I’d take advances in healthcare which are real and which techno detractors have not yet answered to in a satisfactory way. For an anti Kingsnorthian sort of take I think it’s worth a read. Personally sort of fall in between this writer who is too high on it and Kingsnorth who writes with the same sort of comprehensive blinders he had when he was an environmental writer. Though I’m still a fan. https://www.persuasion.community/p/the-peculiar-persistence-of-the-ai1 point

I know this thread is more about the repros of this particular era, but on the subject of hidden rivets and red tabs, it is important to establish the original and its' origins. I have seen quite a few images of '1937' salesman samples before and they all have a tab but also hidden rivets. This pair showcased by Marvin's has a red tab but no hidden rivets. Obviously this pair is a little smaller (not by much) but the back pockets look definitely designed with only the red tab in mind as the new addition, which could make these sample pair date from late 1936? I'm guessing as usual, but l believe these to be from the prototype era of the 1937 model (1935-37) Anyway definitely an early advert for the newly improved 501XX and worthy of sharing even if for the smaller gauge LS&Co buckle and the close ups of the warp/weft of the denim. Cute little arc too. @beautiful_FrEaK Maybe change the title of the thread to 1936 rather than 1937 if @indigoeagle doesn't mind?1 point

MRs and Junior MJF9 grew this avocado plant from seed during lockdown, making it about 5 years old. I read they can take 10 years to bear fruit. However, in the north of Engerland it might be a stretch... we'll find out in 5 years... watch this space ... (I'm no gardener but think it needs a bigger pot)1 point

The SE page is the true bane of this forum user experience for me. Nothing to do with SE, just how the site operates.1 point

It's weird for me too. Some threads—"Nice Things" for example—it takes me to the newest reply when I click on the title. The "Self Edge" or "The Flat Head" thread, it takes me to the page before while other threads take me to the top of the latest page. I wish it would just take me to newest unread across the board. Interestingly, the SE and TFH replies per page are way more than any others so I think there is a bug for me.1 point

earlier this week. Rick Owens copying Oakley, Helmut Lang copying Fred Perry from 1997 I think and Helmut copying Levi’s from the 00’s as well, but the wescos are real. Been recovering from surgery this summer and have only been fading a lovely pair of black warp/grey weft drkshdw jeans… I’ll have to make a post in Unknown Non-Japanese Brands when I get around to taking pics1 point

Meanwhile, patched over the opening to the left front pocket earlier this week with fabric from the cut off hem of one of my Tender Co. shirts, dyed w/ Prussian blue. I’ve stitched over a few seams, previously, but this is the first real repair—almost always is, for me. I really love how the pocket bag denim is fading; it’s a beautiful rich blue. Plus: photos before the upcoming wash, I think no. 5 or 6?1 point

Selvedge cloth at the rivet on the inside of the chest pocket. I've only seen this on Freewheelers' 506 and 507. Is this FWs taking artistic licence with this little detail or are they the only ones to have bothered to replicate? The original Levi's jackets have the size tag above the leather patch and I have also only seen that on FW's jackets.1 point

Looks wonderful MJ! It's not gentrification.. it's always been a fancy-pants neighbourhood.. back in the late Victorian period, wealthy steel barons (the finance-bros of their era) fled the pollution of the east-end seeking out the fresh air of the Peak District.. building their houses in the S10 / S11 districts.. Old photos show kids walking to school nr Sharrow Vale in top hat and tails.. even 20yrs ago, S10 was still considered one of the most affluent postcodes outside Kensington and Chelsea. Regarding the accent.. My immediate neighbours are from Hackney, Lowestoft, Belper, Devon, Sydney, Taiwan and Holland.. so not many earthy Sheffield accents there .. the lead singer of the Arctic Monkeys lived just a stones throw from where you're eating your sandwiches.. so entirely faux-Sheffield accent Sadly i'm not one of the winners from all this postcode-prosperity.. when i bought my first house.. i desperately wanted to get out of Sheff.. it was just depressing, most of my old friends had either died, been incarcerated or sectioned due to the heroin boom of the post rave years.. We could have bought the tiny house we live in now for less money than the massive barn conversion we bought out in the sticks.. When our boy came along.. he would walk to his junior school through the farm across the street, stroking lambs enroute, it was idyllic but having been to a god-awful secondary school myself, i was determined to send my kid to a great secondary.. which meant moving back into Sheff and into S10 / S11.. but after the austerity of the Cameron / Osborne years a lot of house prices stagnated, ours included.. it took us 4yrs to sell it, we had 8 viewing during that time, ..i had to drop the price by £70k to secure a sale.. Austerity had no effect on the middle-class folks of S11 which meant the house we bought had 130 viewings in the first week and i had to pay £17k over the asking price.. so i was already £87k down before we moved in .. with Sarah's health issues, she wouldn't have been able to get a mortgage so i had to use my savings to pay off the old mortgage and start a new one from scratch under my name.. which is why i'm currently at work on a Saturday afternoon.. i'm overpaying like a mofo tho!.. i'm equally determined to pay it off while i'm in my 50s ..1 point
