The (now) annual Dad and lad weekend away in the Peak District, infamous OO Soul country Quick pit stop en-route at Porter Coffee on Sharrow Vale road - £17 for 2 butties and £1 for parking - how much! Hardly a Sheffield accent to be heard, southern tones aplenty - gentrification of S-codes? Took the WoMs for a walk around Bamford Edge... totally staged pic looking out over the Hope Valley It's a strictly carnivorous weekend - we packed 4.4kg (yes I weighed it) of ribeye, T-bone, lamb... will we get through it all is the question And a sauna to finish the day off...17 points

🌿 Gardener Overalls — Brand History & Profile Founded in the mid-1990s by Ichiro Ueki, Gardener Overalls is a Japanese denim label deeply rooted in the American workwear tradition, yet distinguished by a unique design ethos and Japanese craftsmanship. 👤 Founder: Ichiro Ueki Ichiro Ueki was originally involved with EVISU and founded an earlier brand called Allen & Hanson in the 1980s. With a deep respect for American vintage workwear, Ueki transitioned toward developing his own denim label. Around 1995–1997, he launched Gardener Overalls. The name “Gardener” was suggested by Hidehiko Yamane, founder of EVISU, because "Ueki" (植木) in Japanese means "to plant" or "gardener" — making the brand name a clever reflection of Ueki’s identity and philosophy. 🔄 Brand Revival with Spiral Jeans After becoming a near-mythical brand among vintage denim collectors, Gardener Overalls was officially revived by Japanese retailer Spiral Jeans in the late 2010s. This relaunch was done in direct collaboration with Ichiro Ueki himself, and includes: Faithful reproductions of older models like the 1954XX New releases such as 1937XX and Hawaiian shirt collections Exclusive limited editions, all sold only through Spiral Jeans (online and in-store) Gardener is now listed as a "Spiral Original Brand", yet remains firmly guided by Ueki's philosophy and technical oversight.8 points

Looks wonderful MJ! It's not gentrification.. it's always been a fancy-pants neighbourhood.. back in the late Victorian period, wealthy steel barons (the finance-bros of their era) fled the pollution of the east-end seeking out the fresh air of the Peak District.. building their houses in the S10 / S11 districts.. Old photos show kids walking to school nr Sharrow Vale in top hat and tails.. even 20yrs ago, S10 was still considered one of the most affluent postcodes outside Kensington and Chelsea. Regarding the accent.. My immediate neighbours are from Hackney, Lowestoft, Belper, Devon, Sydney, Taiwan and Holland.. so not many earthy Sheffield accents there .. the lead singer of the Arctic Monkeys lived just a stones throw from where you're eating your sandwiches.. so entirely faux-Sheffield accent Sadly i'm not one of the winners from all this postcode-prosperity.. when i bought my first house.. i desperately wanted to get out of Sheff.. it was just depressing, most of my old friends had either died, been incarcerated or sectioned due to the heroin boom of the post rave years.. We could have bought the tiny house we live in now for less money than the massive barn conversion we bought out in the sticks.. When our boy came along.. he would walk to his junior school through the farm across the street, stroking lambs enroute, it was idyllic but having been to a god-awful secondary school myself, i was determined to send my kid to a great secondary.. which meant moving back into Sheff and into S10 / S11.. but after the austerity of the Cameron / Osborne years a lot of house prices stagnated, ours included.. it took us 4yrs to sell it, we had 8 viewing during that time, ..i had to drop the price by £70k to secure a sale.. Austerity had no effect on the middle-class folks of S11 which meant the house we bought had 130 viewings in the first week and i had to pay £17k over the asking price.. so i was already £87k down before we moved in .. with Sarah's health issues, she wouldn't have been able to get a mortgage so i had to use my savings to pay off the old mortgage and start a new one from scratch under my name.. which is why i'm currently at work on a Saturday afternoon.. i'm overpaying like a mofo tho!.. i'm equally determined to pay it off while i'm in my 50s ..7 points

I thought these At Last pants that I got from Brogueshop the other day, could benefit from a proper trouser cuff, and creases. Today I tackled the job. I'd forgotten what a pain in the ass it is to do this kind of cuff, especially if there's any kind of taper to the lower leg. I'll spare you all the details. The end result look decent.3 points

I've always used scissors. If you have access to a small pair you can get it close to invisible.2 points

Earlier this week Mrs. CSL and I decided to escape the heat and head to the California Coast for a few days. We had no definite plan other than to stop wherever seemed interesting and fun. Half Moon Bay was our first stop. After a night in a very smoky hotel room (from a fireplace apparently without adequate venting) we found a nice row of horticultural shops. Lot's of nice orchids here. We bought a few. Then we headed to San Carlos to visit Brogueshop (I lied when I said there was no definite plan...).It's a beautiful store and perhaps the only place in the US that stocks Freewheelers? Definitely the only one that stocks Timeworn/AtLast Co. It was great to see their products in person. A cap and glasses that I didn't buy. I did snag some things however, and Mrs. CSL got a sweater (already put away). I really didn't need another FW flannel shirt but as I've now become fond of saying, "Sometimes even when you don't need it, you need it..." We headed back to Miramar Beach, had dinner and searched for lodgings, finding a nice B&B by the ocean. Obligatory seagull pic His tracks and mine (Paraboot as usual). I think these structures are some kind of an art gallery made to look like a viking stave church I think. The next day we headed south planning to stop somewhere around Monterey. Encountered what I'm told is an authentic British pub along the way😉. 1st wear for the new FW shirt. Now it'll be in the closet until November probably. After this we encountered some LA grade traffic around Santa Cruz. After driving round in circles trying to get to a Starbucks, mainly for the bathroom we took a random road and pulled into a parking lot to regroup. By a complete coincidence we were at the Universal Audio facility. Those involved with music and recording will no doubt be familiar with the brand. Braving the road again we started our search for the night's accommodations. We found a place in Pacific Grove which worked fine as we weren't bothered about being in Monterey proper. (I visit there every year for a music festival). We enjoyed the neighborhood. A good selection of restaurants, record shops (one with a bar), and an art museum focused on local artists of the Steinbeck era, most or all being associated of his. I was very keen on this guy's work, of which I was previously unaware. After that we had lunch and visited an antique mall. I didn't buy these books but thought them cool enough to photo. Then it was back to the 101, and gradually rising temperatures, before arriving home at sunset. Since I can't figure out how to delete these extras let's call them bonus pics.1 point

I don't know if this is a hot take or not, but out of all the one/two-person brands I know of, I'd take Ande Whall, especially from before the earthquake or whatever destroyed his original workshop and he made jeans with hidden rivets and stuff. Ande's jeans were affordable and not $700, he actually made and delivered what you ordered, didn't sue you for putting pictures of his jeans in a book, had a unique design of his own instead of trying to be 1000% accurate repro of this one deadstock pair made for two weeks in May 1943, and was totally in control of his own thing instead of having a single retailer in charge of distribution that would hype his pants to the moon and back. That's a combination of factors that to me at least, is hard to beat. The denim community really did lose a real one with Ande.1 point

Most of their tees are a bit much. Especially the Harley tee with put something exciting between your legs and the last poke saloon. I get they’re based on old stuff but just not things I’d ever feel comfortable wearing in public especially with my wife and kids.1 point

More recently, I picked up two cotton/linen tee shirts on Yahoo for like $25 + shipping. The fabric’s really great. It twists a ton, which I like, particularly given that they seemed to account for it well during patterning. (Maybe this relates to the unique approach to the shoulder and sleeve seems?) They fit well, but the cut is a little out of my comfort zone, I think, with a very wide neck and too little length keep tucked—so I’ve mostly been using them as active wear for climbing & hiking. For that, they’re perfect. Definitely would recommend to anyone who prefers this style of fit.1 point

My one slight issue i have with this^ style of footwear, be it Asics, New Balance or what'evs is that most of them look like shit once they’ve been worn in for a few months, whereas a pair of Chucks, AJ1s, Vans for instance get better or should i say.. look no worse at each stage of wear. Take Chucks (basketball / gym shoe style) for instance.. it doesn't matter how fucked this type of shoe gets.. they can be falling to pieces and still look great, you can wear a battered old pair of Chucks and dress them up with a good pair of jeans.. they can always be part of a dope looking outfit, whereas when NBs start to stain and yellow, they could still have years of wear left but even a good pair of jeans can't save them.. and by the time they do have holes, they just make you look down at heal, like you're long overdue a new pair of sneaks.1 point

0105 after 18 months of regular wear. Pretty satisfied with these but unlikely to consider another pair due to the excessive back rise (you can see some fade lines on the yoke due to the sag). Something I pay more attention to now... still, they are the most comfortable jeans I've owned and a super versatile cut overall. Plenty of missing threads and some heavy wear on the cuffs. Not sure what size these are as the patch had a 33 but the inner tag has a 32 – anyone else have this on their pair? Peek-a-boo:1 point

A little bit different kind of Saturday ride than what @Double 0 Soul does - long and slow family ride. My kids are probably 20 pounds bigger than they were last year, the hills are getting really tough! One of the four lakes we rode along (this is the Great one). And a stop at our favorite playground.1 point

Took my kid suit shopping today.. due to my.. let's say 'buying habbits' .. i was expecting a £600-800 touch, i was amazed how cheap a reasonable quality suit is.. Calvin Klein silk tie aside, all this came to less than £300 from Next.. Having never owned a suit myself, at 15.. he's allready a more rounded human being I'm just cooking some Piri-Piri chicken on the old Petromax None of these cats are ours.. they're Lenny's new friends from across the road ..all the gang in our living room SC-47s Chucked some clover and a handfull of wildflower seeds down this year1 point
