I often get out of the habit of posting outfits in warm weather, which is dumb because I think I have plenty of good summertime fits. Here's my TCB Late S40s jacket which I'm wearing part-time right now; the TFH Type II is currently hibernating after a wash. This jacket is amazing, I love the denim, fit, and details. It's a size 42, so I was pleasantly surprised that it's got a T-back design like a larger size Type I. The chinos are my second pair of Buzz Rickson Original Spec, I felt the top block on my original size 31 pair was too small, so I went up to size 33 and these fit perfect! Easily the best chinos I've worn. TCB Late S40s jacket, Lone Flag tee, Hollows Rail belt, Buzz Rickson Original Spec chinos, New Balance sneakers, MX73.9 points

You lose nothing by trying @Broark Folks traveled across JP to collect the first run of CSF 46s over the counter but I still managed to land a pair using the fanboy method2 points

I’ve tried on a few of their shirts, and have been looking for their 41 trousers in salt and pepper for a while. The quality is there, and I think they do a lot of unique stuff, that other brands don’t even come close to (like their shoes and boots offerings). It seems that most their non core items are sold out pretty quickly, which might be one of the causes to why theyre not as popular as bigger brands.2 points

have a shirt of theirs: confirmed it’s a good un… not a purest repro but not too much of a mashup neither… (white buttons (50s?) on a 40s chambray big yank pocket design)2 points

^ I wonder how much is the denim itself versus the roping. Mentioning because I just noticed that where I cuff is starting to blow out (in addition to back of the legs) and there’s no stitching there. No doubt the roping might exacerbate but it will be interesting to see if you can get your pair to even reach 18 months…2 points

Nothing exciting, but got my jeans back from getting some darning work done and gave them a wash. Light was perfectly flat this morning and these pictures feel probably more accurate than most I’ve posted. Happy to have them back. Tracks starting to appear, still not much in the way of marbling, I think I’m probably past the point of that happening much. Little tiny blowouts starting to happen on the back of each knee - usually when that happens the honeycombs are more prominent but on this pair barely visible. Hem and pocket update for fun.2 points

I don't know how amenable you'd be to crowdsourcing ideas @rodeo bill but given the place based ethos you expressed in the recent newsletter I'm curious if you'd ever entertain using pokeweed to dye a batch of something. It's an American native and can yield some really nice reds with the right mordants. https://www.motherearthnews.com/diy/pokeberry-dye-recipe-ze0z1801zmos/ Even better because it's a plant a lot of people dislike and is poisonous but is kind of amazing in its own way (like milkweed).2 points

Thanks for the suggestion @ATWM! I'd not heard of this, but Deborah had, and now I see it there's quite a bit of it around our neighbourhood. Deborah had already been thinking about getting some- she's developing our backyard into a very small native forest garden. Interesting! In the meantime, Lukas Mauve just wrote a lovely piece for his substack Present Forever (well worth a look through generally) here: https://presentforever.substack.com/p/the-tender-co-interview1 point

Definitely considered this as well, I'm gonna shoot vlad a message since he is a similar size as me so if he's around it might just work... I'll shoot my shot but I'm not holding my breath on landing them on my pwn, but you never know if you don't try!1 point

I talked to both Junky shops recently (by telephone) and both said, that they don't ship overseas. Which is a pity, since they have editions, often bigger sizes and N/W-versions. In the past I've worked with Japanese shops, in that I organized the shipping label (say from DHL Express) and mailed it to them. They just had to package everything, print out the lable and wait for the driver to pick up the package. Can't be easier than that. But they still have to organize to receive the payments (via paypal or similarly) and of course then set up the processes to handle that transactions with regard to their taxes. @BroarkSome shops/artists who insist on purchases in person also won't allow that a big person buys a small size. Just to keep that in mind.1 point

Have you tried emailing the store? I know it sounds futile but even with my terrible grasp of the Japanese language, I wrote to Junky regarding the release of their 100x units of JSP 46s (it wasn’t even in store, it was at an exhibition) I translated my text to Japanese.. I asked very, very nicely and they made it happen.. ordinarily they wouldn’t even like international shipping.. maybe get @Cold Summer to help out with all the culturally acceptable’dear sir or madams’1 point

Do we have any active forum members that live in Japan? Trying to find someone that could possibly proxy for something applicable to the unknown brands thread, unfortunately I don't think traditional proxy services will cut it. It's going to a store on a specific day, but I'm working out the details. And if successful it would likely warrant a spin off to a new standalone thread. Only person I can think of off the top of my head is @vlad_III, but please dm me if interested!1 point

definitely soft denim: for us slackers this makes it comfy: @julian-wolf your hard wearing regime is pretty impressive! (as is yr flower roster!)1 point

Would echo b_F that what they're doing is interesting and should be more popular outside of Japan, but for whatever reason (probably the age of the brand compared to the established Osaka 5 etc.) I haven't deep dived. Even when I visit Tokyo I always manage to skip the shop even though it's in one of the most accessible areas on one of the busier shopping streets 😅 I would say their work with shirting and jackets is particularly admired in Japan though1 point

I'm in the same boat as you, mine shrunk a little too much so they are a little "short." Adding a micro cuff, though, makes it a bit more intentional for me, so problem solved. I was hoping to be swimming in them and just do regular washer and dryer frequently, but it may be more to my mild weight gain as opposed to screwing up the sizing. Pair is great though and as we roll into summer, very happy having a ~13oz pair.1 point

The button is a literal bootleg (living up to the name) of a vintage promo button: https://rockposters.com/collections/venue-winterland/products/auction-aor-2-53-bg-29-jefferson-airplanme-muddy-waters-1966-promo-button-near-mint?variant=44786115313943 The accompanying poster for that show:1 point

The 'Last Resort' denim is very nice. Haven't handeld the heavier version, just the regular one. I have it on my rebuilt jeans and had it on the 301XX. The one-wash version from Jealdo was a lot softer than what my wash at home did to the fabric. I remember the fit on the 301XX to be pretty straight/slim in the top block. I was quite a bit lighter back then, so a W36 would probably my choice today. And yeah, Jelado seems to do well in Japan but is not as widespread in the West. Sometimes it's vague to know why some brands do better than others allthough they offering basically the "same" repro stuff.1 point

As seen above, we spent the past week up at a friend’s cabin on a dammed lake in the mid-Sierra, fed by the south fork of the Stanislaus River. More on that later. As a little sneak peek, here are some shots from a lovely morning hike that I took on Friday, feat. contest jeans, Great Lakes hat + shirt, JK boots. The original idea was to make my way up to the peak of nearby mountain, center background in this shot: The approach to the ridge was scrambly, but before too long I hit a trail that seemed to be going in the right direction. Left the trail again before too long to follow the sound of water, which turned out to be (I think) the nearby Herring Creek Climbed back uphill to the path through a couple hundred feet of chest-high bramble… …and made my way to a spectacular vista point From this last perspective, the peak I was planning on hiking up is to the far left. The gorge to the right feeds the inlet to the lake, seen above. It’s straightforward to hike from the lake part way up the gorge, up to around the large pool seen near the bottom right of the gorge photo. In the past, I’ve made my way up far enough to see the first of the heavily wooded sections (slightly right of center), but have never managed to get there from below because of how steep the walls get to either side of the river. Looking down from above, it seemed like it might be plausible to work my way down to the wooded section by following the shoulder of the ridge (a.k.a. the Large Granite Slab). This seemed to align much more closely with my interests than waking the rest of the way up the mountain, so I scrapped the original plan and plotted a rough course into the gorge. This ^ was the final approach, around 4–500 vertical ft. down a ~80% incline slab of fully exposed granite. Intimidating, but Komperdell, JK, and lots of experience off trail in the Sierra were on my side. The oasis at the bottom was well worth the anxiety at the top. Some of the absolute prettiest water features I’ve ever seen. Stopped for lunch and a beer (ca. 10 am…time runs different in the mountains) and made my way back down to known territory.1 point

Very nice! I love the B-6 he made for me. The collar on yours is a nice flourish, but the zipped pockets would bug me. On the subject of JC and GW, I visited him today. He's a very congenial guy and of course absolutely passionate about his craft. My slot is coming up and I placed an order for one of his civilian jackets. I did try the cross zip Mojave I had tried on in 2021. It still fits. Too bad it has an owner...1 point
