  1. Yesterday I did a slot at my son's elementary school careers day, and talked with a group of third graders (8-9 year olds) about being a fashion designer. They were all great, and one kid was really pleased when he was pulling apart a cutting of denim that I'd passed around and saw that the inside of the yarn was white. "this must be why jeans get white when they get worn out". I swelled with pride on behalf of all of us.

  10. Lvc 551ZXX Forgot l had this pair even though they are part of my usual 3 pair rotation - First edition Levis Vintage Clothing made at the Valencia Street factory in September 1996 (same time that my ^1955 501XX were made) by peeps, some of which (allegedly) worked there making jeans in the 40s, 50s and 60s. They are made with Japanese milled sanforized denim which is supposed to replicate Cone 686 denim? Anyway l bought them around 2008 and had them hemmed by me Ma.

  13. Yeah - I got a pair from Naoki that arrived at the start of the week. The Okinawa denim was calling me after I reacquainted myself with my MF Ranch Blouse but, after taking a closer look, plumped for the Hawaii for a change and out of curiosity. What great denim. So nice. I was a bit hasty and forgot to get them hemmed so it's heavy double cuffing until I do. I know what you'll say... yes the denim rail is coming under a lot of stress lately... but I am otherwise pretty low-cost 😁

  14. The top one I bought in a little shop in Brick Lane in 1999. The second, I think in Greenwich in the very early 2000s.

  15. One of my rarest. And most tattered. Roy Lichtenstein X Guggenheim "Grrrrrrrr!" T shirt In 1993 the Guggenheim Museum used Lichtenstein's 1965 work "Grrrrrrrrrrr!" In promotional materials to advertise their upcoming show: "Roy Lichtenstein: A Retrospective". They sold this shirt in the gift shop. It has since become a collector's item. I found it about 20 years ago thrifting and loved it so much that I nearly destroyed it. In fact it made quite a few WAYWT appearances in the early 2000s. Very high rotation. It was so beat up I recently bought a reprint so I could semi retire the OG. You can see the reprint image size is a bit smaller and the shirt is pretty thin in comparison. And aside from a few coffee drips it's also still white.

  16. These 2 I’ve had since 1990. I did some work for a friend (well, more a friend of a friend) who used to own the brand and shop Boxfresh and now owns Boxpark and was paid in clothing he was dealing in. The no alla violenza ones were produced for the 1990 World Cup in Italy. I used to have another in grey and another of the basketball ones in red until my sister stole them. He also gave me a coach jacket, some Soffe sweatshorts and a Burro t-shirt (they shared an industrial unit in Lewisham).

  26. Can’t beat a bit of whataboutery, it’s like criticising Guardian readers for supporting the Transatlantic slave trade! Anyway… Run DMC’s ‘My adidas’ (1985) is too obvious but let’s see if you can guess this song from 1987 from the lyrics below (the rapper has a terrible lisp, so best read rather than listened to 😬) ”They call me Puma, by the clothes that I wear, on my feet, on my body, on my head, everywhere”

  29. @yung_flynn similarly lost track but these caught my eye and glad they did... there's a crossover place in the wide jeans thread for them too... the thigh measured at crotch comes in at 37cm for a w36... compared to SCSC '43s (w34 with similar actual waist) which are 35cm, as are SC Hawaii... so definitely voluminous for anyone considering them

  30. I've bought a couple of bits since buying those SC-47s last year.. I haven't bought anything new for so many years.. i'm getting a bit threadbare.. When i'm at work, i'll wear a sweatshirt for a month or so, changing the baselayers / thermals when they get stinky, i put all my work clothes in a bag and save them till it's packed full then take it home for a wash.. i don't wash my work clothes with the families clothing because it gets covered it bits of sawdust.. ..i do this twice/yr.. alas, in the summer i took a bag of winter work clothes home, sweatshirts and stuff.. some McCoys, some vintage Levi's sweats, when it was all dry, Sarah took it off the line and bagged it up so i could take it back to work.. she left it next to the kitchen bin.. but it disappeared, i've searched at home, at work and in the boot of the car.. i think one of us has emptied the kitchen bin and chucked the bag of clothing away with the household rubbish, i can't think of any other explanation as to where my bag of tatty work clothing has gone?.. so before the cold weather arrives, i need to relegate some sweatshirts and maybe a denim jacket to work duties so i've been sorting out what i actually want to keep and put back into my daily rotation. The vintage Nike is stuff i've owned for the last 20+ yrs, i pulled some old collectables out of the wardrobe when i pulled out the collection of SC-47s to photograph.

  33. So it started with Texture. Then Voluminous jeans with texture. Then Heavy voluminous jeans with texture. Then Dark heavy voluminous jeans with texture… anyway you know how it can spiral… I’ll do the Sugar Cane Hawaii post soon for further proof of that 😉 Anyhow these 17oz Samurai S3100VX WW2 model landed today… and they’re ace. They meet the brief perfectly. Great service from Daniel at DC4 in Berlin... and lovely hemming to boot... using actual Samurai thread so it’s all matchy-matchy… I’m going with one big 3-inch fuck-off bucket cuff... no stopping me... 😀

  38. @MJF9 I like the look of those S3100VX's. I kind of lost track of Samurai because they had too many models for me to remember and their limited editions did not really appeal to me, I had kind of forgotten that I have always liked their simpler models. I feel like they usually look good on most people too, including cuts that do not really appeal to me. @Geeman I also had a pair of S211VX briefly. I realized that they were far too tapered for my taste and to be practical for me because the leg opening circumference was smaller than my foot, which is a struggle as a big guy with a small waist. I got rid of mine when I decided that I couldn't and didn't want to struggle trying to pull my feet through, especially once we had a newborn. The fit was pretty well done though even if it was not my usual preference. It didn't really have the carrot look that I do not like for most tapered cuts. I don't remember anything like that pocket issue, but most of my attention was directed at the leg opening

  39. I like to watch old footage of the 1981 'Cascade Run-Off' on YT to see all the early adopters of Nike running shoes .. wearing what are now vintage pairs worth £1000s Both Adi and Rudi Dassler were very enthusiastic members of the Nazi party .. they never told us that when we were growing up did they Martin? ..so @ATWM whatever odious direction you think Bill & Phil took the brand, at least they wern't fkin national socialists ..but yes, the older kids around my neighbourhood primarily wore Adidas and Puma in the early 80s I'll leave you with the words of KRS1 from 1988 "How many people got Nike's on? If you got your Nike's on, put your feet up in the air If you don't got Nike's on I think you need to keep your feet down.."

  40. This got me thinking back though there is always a risk given the huge time-span that I conflate years. Like Maynard, school years were predominantly Adidas - Adidas shoes (Corsica, Dakar), Samba, Bamba etc - and many hours were spent in Liverpool at Wade Smiths lusting after rare af German Adidas imports (think we discussed this a few years back). Though I fondly recall getting a pair of Hi-Tek Silver Shadow, which doubled up for running and knocking around it. I remember bouncing out of the shop in them (yep wore them straight off the bat) like they were the best thing ever with the comfort making up for the fact they weren't the coolest pair... yet. We had a 200m cinder/gravel athletics track at school... I'm pretty sure I was wearing the Hi-Tek when I broke the 400m school record... not intending for gratuitous self PR here... I mention it because my lad and I were comparing times at similar age... and I had to make the point that he's wearing carbon fibre spikes weighing 125g per shoe on a modern 400m track, whereas I was skidding around corners on gravel in my 1.25kg shoes (ok slightly exaggerated but you get the point). The only Nike I had in my yoof were spikes. Given the advances in running shoes and running tracks, it makes World Records like David Rudisha's 800m in 1.40.91 from 2012 and Seb Coe's UK record of 1.41.73 from 1981 (44 years ago) all that more remarkable. I love the Nike Waffles from OO but they wouldn't cut it for serious athletes these days given the advances in technology. Very nice for 'feet-up Fridays' though!!

  41. I'm dropping a few more photos that I captured of the M41001, which I missed the first time. Jeans are now in process of being shrunk. I will show the before and after measuring tape photos of the waist along with fit once they've fully air dried (probably later in weekend or next week). The back of all the fly buttons are stamped with "S"

  47. I appreciate that modrn day sportswear giant Nike is a hiddeous thing.. but it wasn't always this way, back in the brands infancy they were just a couple of innovative distance runners. In regards to this^ Waffle era.. this was a guy eating breakfast.. looking at his families much loved waffle iron.. a cherished wedding gift no less which he poured liquid rubber into to create the sole of a running shoe.. It sounds like something i would do .. and i love this about the brand nearly as much as i love Jacob Davis using rivets to hold a pair of denim pants together.. plus the pull of nostalgia is massive, when i was a young penniless vintage shopper, nylon Nike runners and vintage Levi's where my way of life.. it was cheap and not many other folks wanted them.. hindsight ect..

  48. And here is my vintage Levis Vintage Clothing items, as lvc was the abbreviation used from late 2003 onwards. Top pair are First edition 1955 501XX from September 1996 and bottom pair are Nos 1920s 201's from 2000. This last pair are destined to be worn in the garden by me once my Csf 41's are trashed.
