Me and my eldest went to a noodle master class this week, learnt to make Dandanmain and Tonkatsu Ramen. Started off prepping the broth and a black garlic oil. Then onto braising the pork belly. Onto making the noodles from scratch. The chef leading us demo'd a mix at 50% hydration and said 40% were harder to make but resulted in much better noodles.... both of us are OCD/detail fixated so challenge accepted. (Featuring Bronson, Resolute & Birks on me) While the Tonkatsu broth was finishing off (smell was amazing) we made the Dandanmain (spicy beef Chinese noodles) and shared amongst the class. No photos of it finished because we wolfed it down with a couple Asahi. Pork was ready to go. And the finished product with seasoned egg, drizzled with the aforementioned garlic oil14 points

speaking of old Fxxx and pioneer v. frontier... from the dark ages and at one point having a pair of both F380 and F350 (which were still the best patterned pair i've worn). was doing a little closet cleaning and found this pair in an old bin... wish i would have had some foresight about 17 years ago and bought about 4 more pairs of these... dig that pocket shape10 points

What size are you? I have a pair of tag size 36" DD-1946 that still have more than enough inseam length for you. They are 17" across the waist. They're one washed but I've never washed them - so for sure more shrinkage is viable They're already small for the label size. My mum is coming to visit me in April and can definitely take a pair of jeans back with her and post them to you? Just want them to go to someone who appreciates. Yours for the grand price of a tenner donated to Battersea.2 points

Worked on my car the other day. Changed the heater matrix which was blocked ,causing the reservoir to boil coolant and spray it out via the cap/valve. Also caused the heating to stop working properly. Dealerships charges £1000+ for this work and remove the whole dashboard, but the internet was convinced you could just removed the glove box housing and do it yourself. So I did. For about £90. Complete fiddle! Really awkward. Got it done eventually and everything works. It was freezing though. Zero Degrees Celsius! And my knees hurt. I’m pretty sure I’ve stretched the knees on my WOMJ’s excessively. Test drive in the hills to check for leaks. Never again 😄 Also cut up a tree that came down in Storm Éowyn2 points

Late 40s jacket arrived in today. Super crispy still and in need of breaking in but very happy with the shorter fit compared to my 20s and all the ww2 detailing! The denim has a bit of a redder hue and is simple but hairy. Wrestled with getting the cinch back to buckle properly a bit but looking forward to wearing this practically daily going forward.2 points

Each person is different and I’m not a doctor (though for walking pain a visit may not hurt) - but I’ve found the long term benefits of avoiding excessive padding / structure have resulted in healthier and stronger feet. I also have high arches fwiw, though not criminally so. For people who have never taken that route easing in is generally recommended to avoid injury - but sort of like sitting a lot (without compensatory work) can lead to core atrophy can lead to back pain, that can happen with feet in a way. A lot of padding can help but probably better thought of a bandaid than addressing the root of the issue - and that’s fine and all but worth noting depending on your goals.1 point

A few years ago.. jjjjjjound released a very standard late 80s style cromo MTB.. same story, just a very basic, would otherwise cost $300 MTB but with a jjjound sticker on the frame as a limited release for $2500. Once the hype had died down, you couldn't give them away I don't mind paying for some hype / exclusivity.. but the brands have to give me something, some obscure historical reference or some fancy materials. To just change a colour, add some branding, call them special and make them limited is just lazy / ridiculous.1 point

It’s literally just different colorways and / or material combinations. The hype recently has been silly, especially with some of the collaborations. There was a recent pair of 993s they did with jjjjjound (idk if I got the right number of j’s or not but you get the idea) and for shits and giggles I jumped in the virtual queue when they were released. Evidently there were 78k people in front of me. I know that number isn’t likely real, a lot of people using bots to buy and resell but I still thought it was crazy to see for a show that doesn’t look that much different than a general release. FWIW I buy my pairs either at or below retail. Anyone paying resale prices for NB has a screw loose.1 point

If you're not actually using them for running shoes, you just want comfort, looks good with denim with a bit of retro charm, i'd go for some lightweight 70s / 80s repro (fat belly swoosh) Nike runners.. waffles, cortez, boston, kinda style.. or maybe some nylon Adidas country or Reebok classics.. they're a lot less fussy and lower profile than modern runners. I never understood the NB hype models .. i get why people like the base models (the 1400 was a great looking shoe bitd) they're a good solid MiA / MiE allrounder, pub shoe with comfy dad vibes but never managed to appreciate the hype models, just couldn't understand what they offer that the base models don't..? .. it's like putting alloy wheels and a spolier on an estate car1 point

Not exactly in line with your request but for me, if I’m doing a day of 20-25k steps and I’m not running, and it’s not out in the woods (or it’s just all relatively flat surface) I will feel much better afterwards having done it in Birks or barefoot shoes than any Nike or whatever trainer I’ve ever tried.1 point

Finally back after traveling for the past two weeks. In my excitement to start wearing these I immediately threw them in the wash and completely forgot the raw checkin pic. Sorry!! I lost a bit of weight since ordering so I went for maximum shrinkage with the hot wash and dryer. They shrank up considerably but this also meant I lost most of my inseam as well. Might have to go uncuffed with these. Excited to start wearing them Measurements comparisons (biggest discrepancy is the front rise) Chart | Raw | Wash & Dry Waist 18.5 | 18.5 | 16.5 Front Rise ~13.58 | 12.75 | 11.5 Back Rise ~17.72 | 17.5 | 16 Upper Thigh ~14 | 14.25 | 13.25 Knee (14”) ~10.82 | 11 | 10 Inseam - | 32 | 28.5 Hem ~9.94 | 10 | 9 Crappy laundry room fit pic to start. Better pics with better lighting to come1 point

I also picked up the Sunny Garden chore coat, the denim is very nice! I think they're going to make some late 1800's inspired pairs out of it this year.1 point

So the first 5150s I posted were a little less than chart, so Simo wanted to replace them... hence take 2 The new pair arrived last Friday - given the anticipation, I forgot the date stamp pic... so here's the delivery confirmation date and time instead 😉 Top job by Simo who's a top bloke... lovely denim, really well sewn... much slimmer than my usual which will take some adjusting... I do lots of leg weights to protect my knees... so the reasonably svelt top block and waist are snug for me... hindsight being a wonderful thing, I should have gone 1-2 sizes bigger (anyone wants a swap, hit me up ) Raw fit pics 1st wash was cold machine, hang dry; wore for a few hours. Then I rolled the dice... 30C wash, stretched the waistband while wet (which gave me 1cm) then hung dry... Meanwhile we went for pizza... alas, featuring FW WW2 denim Final pics are after a 3 mile walk earlier... pleased to hear there's more stretch to come too as I'm going to need it1 point

Sorry for the lack of posts lately, things are very busy personally and with Tender- it feels like forever, but we've still only been in the US five months! Thank you so much @julian-wolf @chicote and @clawbytes for fantastic photos. More things coming, but in case it's of interest to anyone, I'm doing a project with students at University of Wisconsin-Madison, and will be doing a public talk on Tuesday Feb 4th at 3.30 Central Time. It'll be livestreamed and there's a signup here: https://cdmc.wisc.edu/event/understandable-design-and-perfect-imperfections-with-william-kroll-of-tender-co/ I'm putting together a bunch of Tender garments and my own things, which I'll show and discuss. Hopefully it'll be interesting!1 point

I'm not anymore as anal as I used to be with these sort of things. Day one here. I'ts a beautiful windy day and I work from home so the jeans are already dry from a lukewarm soak and this is how they fit. The waist stretched back easily, the rest of it shrunk to perfection. I'm only tempted to toss them in the machine for peace of mind later on and to take another couple cms off the inseam length. I'm delighted with the jeans, love the fit! great denim, light but crunchy, I feel it'll fade great. I can totally see me being loyal to these jeans for the most of the next 18 months, easily.1 point
