I had been wanting to get a randall for some time. Waited to the last couple weeks of summer to pressure me into it. Just enough sun to get it to a nice warm color. One hell of a jacket. Day 1: The branding scar: You can see there was a bit of a drizzle so I gave it a water treatment to prevent spots after about 1 week Then we had one scorcher of a day which made a noticeable change: Then another hot day: by this point it got to be a mindless daily meditation of putting it outside and turning it every couple hours. After another week or so I oiled it with Pecards antique: Drying in the sun: at this point I had maybe 12 days of sun on it and had about 1-2 days of questionable weather before it looked like fall was switching on. So this is just about where we are for this year. Gonna wear the shit out of it and see what we can do next summer.23 points

I just finished rebuilding & modifying my 2000 Kawasaki W650 that I’ve had for a few years… it was a lot of work and money put into it, and I’m really proud of the result. I rebuilt and upgraded the front and rear suspension, adding 1” of length to the rear shocks and balancing it out with a 1” raised custom triple clamp. Rewired the whole bike with a Motogadget solid state control unit and an Ignitech ignition, and mounted a motogadget gauge into the original headlight housing. Cut and rebuilt the fenders, built a custom battery box, replaced the stock CV carbs with Keihin CR Special flat-slides, wired new controls for the handlebars, and replaced pretty much all the other consumable parts on the bike. I was planning on riding this bike to South America but haven’t really gotten to test it enough to really know how it will do on long off-road trails, at altitude, etc., so am taking my old dr650 instead. But I can’t wait to take this out riding again whenever im back in the states!19 points

I got a new pair of size 2 132s a few months back, and after much careful deliberation decided they’re going to be the only pair of jeans im bringing with me to south america. Funnily enough, I brought my first 132s (also size 2) along to Ecuador almost 10 years ago, and though the fabric was great for the work I was doing, I always felt like I was swimming in them. I’m still within 5 pounds of what I weighed then, but somehow this new pair feels much better, almost an ideal cut for the style I like to wear now. But I ended up doing a few modifications for the trip: First, I added suspender buttons.. I made some leather suspenders earlier in the year and wore them exclusively with these pants, mainly cause the waist was still too big. Debating on keeping the buttons on because the waist issue was solved more recently. A couple months back, I darted the waist, about 2cm on each side. Not professional at all, lol, but it did make a huge difference in the fit and allows me to wear them without suspenders or a belt. Then I made some belt loops to replace the ones I removed in order to fit the suspender buttons. Then today, I decided I’d give them a hem, and use the leftover material to add a proper back pocket for my wallet. The drivers’ pockets are great and very comfortable to use, but their size and location further down my thigh, as opposed to against my butt, makes them much looser and less secure, so I’d rather not keep anything valuable in them. This new pocket is just a cut from the hem scrap hand stitched and “riveted” with some Chicago screws (wish I had copper ones to match!). Here’s the final product all together: I’m excited to wear these in on this trip; they’ll be tucked into motorcycle boots a lot so will hopefully get some interesting fades. Thanks for looking!16 points

Think I'm actually going to take a whopping 2 to 3 inches off, they've been washed twice but they're still measuring 33 in. on the inseam. I've been enjoying my OAs which were hemmed to 31, but the rise on the '42s is much higher so I think going a little shorter on the inseam length might make more sense. I always have a hard time figuring out my inseam length even after all these years.4 points

Hi @jeash90 sorry for the delay I've been on holiday this week! They are indeed great, I've worn them just about every day since I got them and I am very much enjoying them. So I bought these one-washed direct from Warehouse, so I can't comment on the initial shrinkage - I did note though that when I received them Warehouse's description on first wash shrinkage was accurate. Here's some measurements for you - the first number is the Warehouse measurement minus what they've suggested for shrinkage in each measurement, and the second measurement is the one I've just taken now, having washed them 1 week ago and worn them every day since (so I would guess that they've stretched out in every dimension as much as they're going to - I've mountain biked, hiked, barbecued etc in them this week) [L32 / Size34] Waist (W) - 83cm // 82cm Thigh (T) - 31cm // 32cm Front rise (F) - 30.5cm // 32cm Back rise (B) - 42cm // 42cm Hem width (O) - 21.5cm // 22cm Not bothered with the inseam as I had Warehouse hem them before sending. PS. If buying direct from Warehouse is an option, my experience buying one-washed and their in-house hem was a very good one - I'll share some photos of how they're looking soon, probably after their next wash!3 points

The S601xx is definitely a bit more trim in the top block compared to other FW models.2 points
-
I will say that personally I have worn the 22,37, 43, 47, wwii s601. I find the s601 rise to “feel” the highest to me and also somewhat more trim in the top block of that makes sense?2 points

Back on pg5 and pg6 of this thread there is a discussion regarding a racist caricature on the Groovers patch (we don't need to have that discussion again) by the time i came to this thread c2008/09 the links were already bust.. Back in my early days of sufu, i used this thread all the time for searching source material on Yahoo, GeoCity, Live Outdoor and such.. even though i searched for Groovers 100s of times just out of curiosity, i never actually found a pair until now.. the patch is pretty damn offensive so i'm not posting images but i have posted links.. wtf!! Coming from the market in Bursa. Tired face, vacation beard and old milk records hat. Linen longsleeve/tad tight. 90s Canes 37s, forgot the model number. late night snacking on the bounty. Mandarins are sometimes ripe when the skin is still green, as I've learnt. Same goes for oranges in some cases. This should be an early variety of satsuma.2 points

I'd say both, but keep in mind "trim" when speaking about the 601xx isn't really that trim in the grand scheme of things compared to other brands.1 point

thanks yall! @julian-wolf i was always rly taken by the back pockets on this brand steel feather, a European denim maker that was around last decade sometime… they had the selvedge seam running down the middle of the pocket in this same manner. maybe a little over the top on a pair of regular jeans but I feel these are different enough that it works ok. thanks for the kind words!1 point

Funny, that you mention them. I saw a pair recently, that was quite unique. Haven't tried them on yet. Autry have been very popular these last years in Europe. Are they known in the US? I think, they are originally from the US, but have been revived recently by Italians.1 point

Anyone here have ever tried Valsport sneakers from Italy? If so curious if you have any sizing recommendations, really like this colorway and would go nicely with the Italian made WoM jeans.1 point

I don't own the '47s so can't compare directly, but they are a tad higher than the S601xx WWII.1 point
-
Is the rise higher than on the 47s? I find that pretty high already. 51s I find a little low and ww2 just about right.1 point
-
Maybe y'all are right and I'll chop them off another inch or so. My OAs are hemmed about an inch shorter and I like wearing them at that length a lot more.1 point
-
It's been way too freaking hot here too, high today is 98 f / 36 c. In hindsight I think I should've waited a bit to wash these, but that happened before the WoM contest took off at warp speed.1 point

It’s good to be young, and naive. I missed all the fuzz on db, I was always intimidated by sufu somehow. Thought it was a big, opinionated , crowd. its good to be here now, still young and naive1 point

I've tried to multi-quote this from the vintage thread and failed miserably.. so @AlientoyWorkmachine Regarding Denimbro.. I'll try and nutshell this mo-fo I think the catalyst for the downfall became apparent years earlier when there was a Denimbruin event. To mark the occasion there was going to be a special run of Roy's available for DB members, the anticipation was palpable.. folks couldn't fkin wait.. i think there was going to be 30x pairs or sumat.. Roy only managed to get around 6 pairs made, but instead of distributing them fairly amongst the forum via a raffle or first come first served, they went to friends of the DB hierarchy most of whom having not contributed fk all to the forum for years.. @shredwin_206 called them out over this.. i remember Mr R saying the fallout soured his relationship with Roy and he stepped back for a while, i don't think this was malicious or intentional.. the situation was just very poorly managed... a management style which came back to haunt us years later. A couple of years on and the forum was getting close to maxing out it's allotted server space or some technobollocks.. we all contributed £20 or so to buy a few more boxes to put our pixels in and keep the old ship afloat.. at this time it was still quite buoyant and sufu had slowed to a crawl.. there was zero transparency in the financial transaction, we just trusted the money was going to prolong the life of the forum, i'm in no doubt that it did and i fully expected having to put my hand in my pocket again in 12mths time to buy more space.. Mr R became a bit more active for a short period thereafter which was nice to see.. Time passed and most of the OGs had all but disappeared.. i was always trying to push back against what i saw as fake lifestyle BS.. what would become Influencers / denim-bloggers / Instagram culture in the years following .. poor old Doc_H was left as lone mod to keep our outrageous egos in check with next to zero mod-powers... a helluva lot of weird shit happened, which i could write a book about but isn't really relevant to the story so incredible as it is, i won't bore you with it. The end came when the server maxed out again.. the mod-gods had been absent for quite some time but instead of saying "it's that time of year again folks.. we need some $$$s to keep the forum alive" they just started deleting threads.. as @julian-wolf alluded to.. there was never any consideration taken.. it was just blind panic.. the threads which hadn't been updated for the longest period (the sub-forums) were deleted first.. years of denim history and painstaking, academic-esque research gone at the click of a mouse, we'd put a lot of our time and effort into building this and they didn't even give us a heads up if we wanted to back up our own shit.. it was just management meltdown.. There was talk of rebuilding, most of us were prepared to contribute but i wanted them to hand over the keys to the forum to someone we could trust.. i always thought @CSL was a safe pair of hands (Hi Carl) but no, they wouldn't hand over the reigns, so we migrated back here and it was left to die.. we did have one last push to save the old place.. i set up a email group chat.. it was me, Ooms, Julian, Flash, Maynard, Bartles, b_F, Duke.. a motley crew if there ever was one.., we contributed more to this group chat over a few short months than we'd contributed to the forums in years .. thanks lads, i'll love you always for that. I've got no hard feelings, i never thought Mr R was a bad guy, he would send me postcards out of the blue from his holiday destinations which i've kept, he annoyed the shit out of me at times and i'm sure as hell i annoyed the shit out of him.. the only sadness i feel is for the loss of information, the slice of our denim history gone and it could have been so easily saved.. A forum member T-Bone Slim recovered the M-Series thread for me from the upside down, which i posted here, for that i'll always be grateful.. most were not so lucky. The weird shit, of which there was much.. @Duke Mantee .. having single handedly built the Freewheelers thread from the ground up (like the gifted architect he is) got banned from the forum for.. if i remember rightly 'having an agenda' ? Nope, still doesn't make much sense.. @beautiful_FrEaK was comfort eating throughout Even years later.. i hadn't contributed to DB for quite some time.. lockdown happened during a denim tour.. it was Foxy's turn with the jeans, but this was 2020, the world had changed, Foxy had left his job in Moscow, he and his wife drove across Europe from Berlin to his house on the Isle of Eigg before the borders closed.. i've stayed at Foxy's house, it's fkin miles from the post office, the post is collected weekly by ferry to take it to the mainland, I doubt the ferry was even running, he'd relocating his entire life, lets cut him some slack, but No! .. the DB hierarchy thought this was somehow my doing..@Maynard Friedman tried to step in as the voice of reasonbut they still thought Foxy and I were trying to sabotage the tour because i was still grouchy over what happened.. as i say, fkin bizzarre but that's just Denimbro in a nutshell. ..the jeans turned up sometime later and no apologies were ever made.. The End..1 point
