I imagine most FC fans are not into the brand for full on retro/repro cuts but perhaps some will find this of interest. I had picked up the 30th anniversary jeans from Standard & Strange back in November 2022. They were reasonably priced initially & then when a sale kicked in I decided to buy a second pair which are still unwashed/unworn. I'd been hoping the matching jacket would turn up, similarly priced at S&S but it never did. After seeing the price ($500, I think) on the FC site I decided to pass. Recently I got the bug to search & see if one might be available somewhere online, & found a size 46 at Son Of A Stag. The price was still high but with first time buyer discount it came down to where I couldn't resist. I noticed that the cardboard tags were different from those that had had been on the jeans. Also the jeans had come in a cloth bag emblazoned with "1946", while the jacket had no bag & was described as 1944-45. Consequently I was crossing my fingers that the jacket would be made from the same denim as the jeans, which I like a lot. Happily it turned out the denim is the same on both items. Not sure if my photos best demonstrate that , but to my eyes the look & feel appeared identical. I'm including a photo side by side with the Freewheelers 1944 jacket. The FC is a wider shape which is accentuated by the stiffness of the denim.5 points

@Broark & @Duke Mantee, looking closer I realized that the confusion was on my end. The catalog number given in the listing looked like a plausible FW item number, so I assumed that that’s what it was—but scrolling through some of their other (non-FW) listings it’s clear that it was just the seller’s own inventory number. Probably should have been obvious from the start. No funny business after all, and good to see some closure of sorts. Anyway, I did end up buying the bag.2 points

Long time no log in… I moved from the UK to South Carolina earlier this year, spent 7 weeks in Japan in between and now settling into southern life. here’s a photo dump: Shizuoka - home in Japan to Tokyo, Yokohama, Hiroshima, Okinawa…then to our new home in South Carolina. And a trip to Katz’s deli in NYC2 points

Nice to see them side by side! How’s the new denim compare? I didn’t end up getting these because I haven’t worn my original pair all that much.1 point

I have a cotton one from Dalee & co (deluxware), it’s really nice. They have multiple color options including navy, but I don’t think they have indigo.1 point

Love the cars! I'm really into older cars, I recently picked up a mid 90s Oldsmobile wagon with low mileage in great condition, and just love it. Not nearly as old school as these cars of course, but the design dates from the mid-80s. I'd love to own a big ridiculous cozy mid-60s to mid-70s land yacht like the one in the first pic someday. I really like Oldsmobile, Buick, Mercury, the mid-level luxury American cars.1 point

Damn, that sort of response is really disappointing to see.1 point

Almost every brands list the length shrinkage is 6-7cm, but I have used Samurai, Ooe Yufukaten OA01XX-0522, Warehouse 800xx, I notice hardly the inseam shrinks 5-6cm. My Samurai 0500XX shrank from 85cm to 80cm, OA01-0522 5-6cm only, Warehouse 800 5cm only. Maybe someone having experience in banner denim can guide us.1 point

how much inseam length of Warehouse 1001xx shrinks initial hot wash and later on washes? 5cm or 6cm or 7cm possible?1 point

Another type II just popped up, this time in a larger size (44). The body length would never work for me, but I'd love if someone here was able to make it work. https://page.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/k11406521421 point

The rise on SDA jeans does seem a little short compared to most repro brands. I think the 502 may be 50s inspired but isn’t classic 50s. I wore the 101 in a size 32 some years back and if I remember correctly the front rise was about 11” or so, maybe a little more (that’s after much wearing and washing) - another inch and they’d have been perfect. Those 502s seem to have an even lower front rise. interestingly, I also have a raw pair of (out of production) SD-001 in size 31. These are a 14oz LHT pair rather than the 15oz RHT 101s. They have a higher rise, bigger waist and thigh measurements than another raw pair of 101s I also have in size 32, although both are supposed to be based on the same cut. The 001s seem to be a more authentic 50s cut.1 point

I wouldn't say the handsewn is inherently higher quality. The resulting look is slightly different. I have a pair of Alden shell tassel loafers (from shoe mart factory seconds, with possibly fewer imperfections than my first quality models -- that's a tale for another time), and I like the machine stitch on the apron. It's a bit "neater" and that makes it a bit dressier than the handsewn, which works for what I wear them for. Of course, if you are going for something more casual, then that won't be an issue. I think there is a place for both.1 point

When I was a kid, we spent around a week each year at a family friend's cabin up in the mid-Sierra, off of the 108. It's on a (dammed) lake, so plenty of swimming, fishing, exploring, etc. Over the span of the 2010s, the lake got more and more crowded, and I focused my spare time less and less on frontcountry. Around 10 years went by without me visiting. Anyway, this summer we got an invitation to go back. I'm taking a few months off from work, so time isn't as much of a commodity for me; and, anyway, there's something going on with the connective tissue in one of my knees, so backcountry hiking is off the table for the time being. Cabin trip seemed perfect. Spent last week laying low, playing board games, sitting + swimming + fishing by the water, working on fixing up an old pair of Cane's…lots of fun through and through.1 point

I might have a boot problem... New to me Vintage late 1940s/ early 1950s Nocona "Pee Wee" cowboy boots with hearts and wings inlays in dark chocolate brown. Possibly Kangaroo. Vamps are impossibly soft and relatively unblemished given the age. See the ad below. The shaft has a few tears that will need repair but otherwise these are built like tanks. Nearly 75 years old! They definitely don't make them like they used to. Obsessed with the elegant profile of these. The unique shapes of the vintage lasts they used to use on boots were much more interesting and elegant than the generic modern ones. Like a vintage Coca-cola bottle compared to modern can. Curves all day. Look at that waist! The taller underslung riding heels certainly help. Big shout out to Jane and Taylor @theshopoutpost for going above and beyond the call of duty.1 point

Pardon the quality of the photos. They are screenshots from video. So yesterday around noon my dogs started freaking out. I thought a coyote perhaps, but when I looked out the window here's what I saw... After a moment of disbelief, thinking where did they come from & how did they get here, I went outside to take a look. Apparently I seemed untrustworthy & they wandered off to the far end of our property. Luckily our fences are decent, but they really didn't seem like they wanted to get out. So after making some calls 911, & getting a referral to Animal Control, someone came around & checked the ear tags. Not long after the owner showed up. He asked if I would mind driving his truck & trailer while he went in on horseback to bring them out. Would I mind?? I've been waiting all my life for an adventure like this!! Here's the rancher guiding the cows out to the road. Initially I had thought the plan would be to load them in the trailer right there but apparently cow behaviour requires a more complicated procedure. This consisted of getting the cows onto a neighboring property where there is a corral. The white car contained Mrs CSL, coming home from work btw. On first attempt rather than going to the right, the cows veered off to the left into the wrong gateway which luckily was closed. After this I was instructed to bring the truck ahead of the desired entryway & park in a position that would guide the cows in. The second attempt was successful the three cows were herded a ways back on to that property to a corral. The next operation was to get the cows into a smaller corral & back the trailer up to that gate, accurately so they animals couldn't get tangled in any gaps around the trailer. Once this was done, the rancher shoo'd the cows into the trailer, and then loaded his horse. Then back to Chez CSL to drop me off & we were done. Kinda blew my day but it was a fun adventure & I learned a few things about cows.... And I came home to find my Fullcount 30th anniversary jacket had arrived, so a good day all around.
