Evisu is still loved!

Anyone tried the Yamane Industries denim yet? Is it the sane denim as MIJ Evisu? Are the measurements on the website all wrong just like how Evisu was? I’m highly tempted to buy a pair because they ship internationally but hoping to get some input before I pull the trigger.

@Double 0 Soul Yamane Industries is the brand of Hidehiko Yamane's son.
He took over Evisu (probably not very sucessful), then it was sold to a Chinese (?) company and after that he founded Yamane Industries. So it's a different brand.

Yamane-san himself has the brand "Yamane Art".

Bot these new brands are quite similar to old Evisu. Wasn't Yamane just a spin-off from Hidehiko Yamane?

We have a thread

Only semi-active person i can remember with Yamane is @tg76 but it's not very often i tune in here so there will probably be more

and I chopped mine off into shorts and turned the legs into a bucket hat

They are lovely denim, the opposite to my Samurais... really soft and pliable, the Indigo had lots of depth, has faded well, would still wear them except i got old and fat. I got mine about 17 or 18 years ago. Its summer here now so I will be wearing the hat.

Semi-active, that's me in general.

Wish I had kept my EVISU we were gifted for doing the DD+1 traveling pants way back

Here they are. Quite different to what is up on the yamane site now.
The free tote bag I got with them has been well used, it’s been around the world and up and down NZ several times.
Gotta go iron the brim of my hat so it’s safer to go outside.

what do you mean ?

I think it’s because they’re Evis/Evisu reproductions of Lee jeans rather than Levi’s. So if Levi’s = Evis on the tab/label, then Lee should = Ee.

Ummm - does anyone know what shops may still have a decent stock of Evisu in Tokyo? A friend is taking a trip there soon and I'm trying to help him navigate.

...def a broad question...

edit: wish I could tell you where in Tokyo he's staying

I understand that you’re asking about a completely different place, but still—I happened to come across two different Evisu stores in Hong Kong about a week ago, without meaning to. Both had quite a lot of stock.

I’ve never been particularly interested in Evisu and don’t recall seeing their products in person, only in online images. The quality of the denim puzzled me a bit—it didn’t feel entirely authentic, too thin and flimsy. It seemed to have some additives that make the fabric stretch or something along those lines. The painted designs and embroidery are distinctive and make an impression, though they’re definitely not to my taste.

^ It’s interesting you say that; i have a pair of older 2000s in No. 1 (unsanforized) denim and find that denim among the toughest & most stubborn of any pair of jeans I’ve owned. Every once in a while i look for a pair of 2001s in the same denim — it’s really a beautiful fabric, really worth finding an older pair to compare your experience to, as what you describe of the new models sounds quite different.

@Talan I’d be very surprised if either of those were Evisu Japan stores. Evisu International is a completely different company, and has been for some time (~20ish years?). They’re certainly much lower quality; that’s just not their focus.

I have both the yamane industries ( he added international shipping after I asked him if I could buy a pair)  and his dads new jeans and the no1 denim is to my judgement the same denim

@Talan as others have said, I’m betting highly that the seemingly lesser quality fabrics/construction are from the International line— or very well just counterfeit, even.
Much of the super loud/obnoxious design choices that defined that brand for many hypebeasts of the 2000s came from their international brand. (Correct me if I’m wrong, someone.)

Thanks. What pairs did you get and how did you size?

Your comment really clarifies things. My knowledge of Evisu is quite basic, and I had forgotten that they have multiple production lines. It makes sense that the products in Hong Kong weren’t from Japan. Now that I think about it, the ones with bright, multicolored embroidery are probably further proof of that.

Interestingly, despite Hong Kong’s vast shopping scene (I wasn’t specifically looking for it, but it’s hard to avoid), I never came across authentic denim or any serious brands. Even the regular Levi’s stores were nowhere to be stumbled upon, at least in the city central parts.

@rockon99 @Talan I could be wrong, but no, I don’t think it’s a separate international line; I think the Evisu label is licensed out to a whole different company (or companies?) overseas

If I remember correctly, the company Evisu was sold to a Chinese company a few years ago.
