Sweet pics holleman! And I really like the sunset shots hap!

Pretty ordinary day today, but I got an unpleasant surprise this morning. I took the pups over to one of the trails we like to hike, and encountered this:

Went to Portland, ME yesterday for a day trip with some friends. Had a blast, I always forget how much I enjoy Portland.

Ate lunch at a restaurant called Duckfat. They make Belgian style fries that are cooked in duck oil as opposed to regular vegetable oil. So god damned delicious. I got a small fry with a curry mayonnaise sauce, and a roasted turkey pannini with gruyere cheese and a spicy cherry pepper relish. Best thing of all about being in Maine is that they serve Moxie.

After lunch we headed back into the center of old port to grab some beers at the Gritty's brewpub. On the way we walked out onto the peir to check out the water and lobster boats.

After that we did a little shopping at Rogues Gallery and Strange Maine. I couldn't find anything that fit me well at Rogues but the store was cool to see. Strange Maine sells old vinyl, zines, vsh tapes, and old school video games. I picked up a few cheap local zines. One was called "Its not a tumor" and has ridiculous drawings of Arnold Schwarzenegger.

So we had to go up to the telescope again, haha.

we had heard that there was a ghost town down the road from us so we went and checked it out. sure enough there was, not much left of it though.

Just some remaining foundation structures around.

mg3273l.jpg

out in the mighty expanse.

mg3280v.jpg

.

mg3316.jpg

the only thing really left out here were these odd egg shaped buildings. supposedly for smelting the metal found by the miners that lived here in the late 1800's.

mg3289.jpg

we had to get back to work so we made our way back. here we are at the beginning of the dirt road that takes us to the top. we are headed a little bit to the left of those radio towers you see up top (if you can).

mg3320.jpg

from here it takes us about an hour to get all the way there. the slant of this road gets progressively steeper and steeper and the rocks bigger and bigger to the point were we have to go in 4 low for the last 5 miles.

then dinner came. roasting some peppers with a blow torch. hahaha

mg3324.jpg

at this point i was so hungry that i forgot to take pictures of the resulting burritos.

over the next 3 days we were so busy i didnt really have a chance to take any other story type photos... so i will just spam you with beautiful pictures that i know everyone will love.

a portion of today's adventures...possibly heading out later this afternoon / evening to shoot again with some friends. Right now. sitting in my loft rummaging through the stuff I shot this morning, pissed off that I couldn't find an entrance into this place i've wanted to shoot for about a year now. I didn't want to break in, well, I wanted to and would have if I had brought a crowbar but anyway, here goes.

the location. an old power facility / factory of some sort on the Saint Paul riverfront. (apparently its for sale, and I think it would make a hell of a cool concert venue. clear it out, etc, etc. and boom. perfect place for drinks and live music.) so somebody with alot of bank please front me the money, I will buy it and make this happen!

approaching the place, had to jump the railing, climb a fence, and ramble through underbrush for a mile or so to get there.

i'm a little meh about these, but it was fun to document the exterior I guess...next time. Z's break in attempts!

on a side note, Graytrain. I am impressed with the images of the night sky, and looks like a great adventure during the day. look forward to more posts from you.

What lens do you use for the night photography? I know the 85mm 1.2L is popular for this...just curious.

Thanks -Z-, Things up there are on such a big, wide scale that the only way I can really capture it is with a fisheye. almost all of my pics are with a canon 15mm 2.8. and it does a great job.

The sap of this stuff can cause unbelievably bad burns. Just so that Dkatz is not alone with his gross-out pics, here's a shot of what Hogweed sap can do to ya:

EEWWWWWW! (happy?)

today my jeans fought fires (as they do every day at work)

You're a firefighter??? RAD! (the little boy in me still wants to be a firefighter, and thinks that firefighters are pretty much the most awesome human beings on the planet

Dude this just made me hungry

Unfuckingbelievable...

The only time I've seen a sky like this was on a canoe in the Amazon from around 2 to 5 in the morning. I remember feeling like the stars were so close it almost felt oppressive.

Guest I LOVE LFC

Today we took a trip to the great city that is Liverpool (5 minutes in the car, haha). Had a look round the shops, got Shiloh some new summer gear. Then decided to head off down to Albert Dock for a look around.

Tomorrow they are trying to get a gathering of 2500 people, dressed as pirates, to break a world record, should be fun.

This is an amphibious duck boat that my Mrs has been on before on a night out. Starts at the dock then drives out where I'm stood and goes round the city.
