Hi guys. I had a busy day today. Started off by going to see my luthier in The Plains, Virginia. It's a very beautiful place, and I've heard he lives next door to George Clooney. Here are some pictures of the day.

He lives in an old schoolhouse. It's about 250 years old and the place gets a lot of natural light. I'd love to live there.

And here's a picture of me while driving. I just snapped this while driving it and threw it into black and white. Turned out kinda cool. Looks like a proper senior high school photo haha.

After I left The Schoolhouse I headed back to Richmond for a tattoo appointment. Sadly no pictures yet. :( I had the bend of my right arm done. It's a doozie.

Took my little girl to the Big City today. I had to run a couple errands, but mostly made it into a fun day for her. We got my stuff out of the way first (leather shop, hardware shop, REI, etc), then off to lunch at our favorite Italian deli. Italian sausage and meatball sandwiches, and a cup of homemade minestrone. SO GOOD.

Then, off to the Italian bakery next door. We settled on a Nutella brownie.

We spent an hour or so at the planetarium, learning about the planets.

I took her to Urban Outfitters for the first time. Not sure if it was a good idea. I hope she doesn't want to be a hipster when she grows up.

imagesoh.jpg

I thought we'd go to the bookstore for a little intellectual stimulation, but she bought some secret book about 'girl stuff'.

imageiu.jpg

My haul for the day- two Ritter Sport bars from the Dutch store, and a replacement Suunto watch because my other one died on my Grand Canyon trip. Gotta love REI.

Then, I came home and unpacked my ROY contest jeans! (no vis, of course) What a great day, and we're both exhausted. It was too dark to do a waywt.

Thank you for the rep folks. I'm going to be picking my instrument up tomorrow, so I'll try to snap a few more pictures of the man at work and other things of interest. It's really my favorite place in the world.

Please do. I love those places, rabbit skin glue on the stove, the smell of shellac varnish and wood shavings. I admire people who make a living making things of such beauty and usefulness.

In future years, books and magazines I've worked on will be in landfill, but people will stlll be making music with those basses.

Haha, I'm sure your books and magazines will be preserved in museums and the home of hobbysists :)

The 'things' I work on would be lucky to last 70 or 80 years, and all end up in the ground regardless.

It snowed yesterday, for the first time this season! It only lasted for around 20 minutes though.

Then went studying with friends and saw some interesting stuff

A tiny statue of Chairman Mao

An old school Taxi sign

I found someone left their Student ID while studying before and his name kind of resembles the Chinese word of Viagra. My friends laughed out loud.

Had another busy day. Some people were interested in seeing more of my luthiers workshop. He's a wonderful man, and was happy to let me snap a few more pictures.

This is me being "artsy". Lol.

After I picked up my instrument I drove over to my bass teachers house. He doesn't allow shoes in the house and all my boots take about 10 minutes to put on, so I had to go with the angler mocs. Haha.

8 hours of driving today...

Thank goodness for Clif bars. Lol.

Visited with my in-laws in Portland, Oregon. This is the brother-in-laws 100+ year old farmhouse, mid-renovation. Much imp[roved since last I saw it, many of the shotgun holes have been dry-walled over, the basement has been dried out, and the family of ring-tail cats in the attic have been evicted.

A giant piece of fabric "art" from his basement.

Sesame balls from Jade in Sellwood.

The brother-in-law was in charge of finding us alternate accommodations, since he has a house full of burning-man weasels and we aren't fond of hula-hoops or self-indulgence. He fancies himself funny, and hooked us up with this neo-victorian B&B up the street from his house. It is a cinnamon potpourii blasted, artificial floral wreath covered, gingham-clad teddy-bear accented, Thomas Kincaid hung, country charmer purgatory, topped off with this infuriatingly inappropriate wood-cut "SIMPLICITY".

Sigh.
