I never fully understand your descriptions of the process Neal (that's on me, not you) but I like the photos and the end result looks very good. We just need to see it mounted and holding a bike, otherwise it's just a well-made ornament!

I bet you got that bit about breakfast...

In a nutshell,

What you see 'finished' is exactly the same at the 'model' but in order to make the finished article rubberised you first need to make a wooden pattern, make a mould, remove the pattern from the mould and cast the space which it left behind back in rubber...clear as mud!

Ive been waiting for EMS to come back online to order bike bits, i'll take it home once its fully built up and take a photo on the hanger.

Lucky you didn't get step 2 muddled up @Double 0 Soul otherwise your cereal would have cured in your intestine, whilst your 'mould' would be more just gone off milk, which would have been useless and not set as you had desired.

I once rented an old run down cottage which was mostly 17th century (not one straight wall or floor in the place, which made it more interesting when negotiating your way to bed after a night on the tiles) - anyway, point being it had a stream running through, down in the cellar which was a deliberate feature, kerbed and everything. Near it was a well too, so must have been a common sight back in the day?

Yep, a friend of mine lives in an old/converted abattoir and she's got a massive open circular well in her cellar with a rusty old metal grid over the top.

On our street, ones cellar is the main topic of conversation after the weather...

The first 8x houses (we're one of them) were built 30yrs before the rest, they're slightly bigger and on higher ground, all 8 have a slightly damp cellar floor but the further you get to the end of the street the wetter the cellar gets, like you say, the folks in the houses at t'other end o'street have running water with those plastic pallet/duckboards you get on small ferries (where you stack your luggage) over the top of the water to keep your feet above the wet floor.

Most houses around us have those moisture activated pumps... as the water table rises they kick in and pump the water out into the drain on the street, you can tank them but it only gives you (or your neighbours) damp problems elsewhere, they're like a carefully balanced micro-climate Victorian houses :D

Reverse Bench-Building. Built feet, smashed thumb, built rest of the bench. the strut is old oak I found flying around at my parents. The rest is spruce or something like that.

Thumb is now purple-ish, maybe I should put some ice on it...

  • 2 weeks later...

Been thinking about doing some woodwork recently and decided to take the plunge this weekend. My first effort is building a console table.

Bought some hardwood boards from the local hardware store.IMG_20210626_113419.thumb.jpg.9cf115b44f92d1c8678f4345b145b580.jpg

Second step was to cut them to size and stain/paint each piece. Much happier with how the wood looks after some medium oak staining.IMG_20210626_171201.thumb.jpg.3cdd6fdd497608331d36444eeae0b25a.jpg

Current stage - wood glueing the side and middle pieces to the bottom, with the help of some clamps.

IMG_20210627_165659.thumb.jpg.bad392842aed9402813fefffb172907f.jpg

Still to do:

- building a drawer and fitting drawer tracks

- staining and assembling the drawer

- attaching some hairpin legs

- nailing on a thin piece of board for the back & final touch ups

Tried some new hardware. All copper, buckles are antiqued garrison-styles in 20mm, rivets are normal. straps are 19mm harness leather in dark/reddish brown.
Also seen: coffea arabica plants I recently repotted to give them more room to grow.

Finished up a frame today. It’s for myself so I leaf the fillets unfiled . Safes a lot of time, plus I like the look. Next steps are paint and build up. Don,t know yet how.

some pictures of making the seatstays.

I wanted to attach them to the side of the seat tube. Than you need to cap them , otherwise there would be an open tube.

after the frame was finished I left it over night in the local canal to soak off the flux. Looks all rusty, but cleans up easy.

Thank you @cheapmuthafukr, it’s Columbus tubing. And leave the fillets raw. This frame is for myself, and I like the look, and it takes a good amount of time to smooth them all out.

here,s a picture of a filed fillet

Very nice! And Columbus is good stuff… I’m more into vintage, and 531 kinda dominates that, but my favorite is my slx de Rosa. I’d love to try a modern filet brazed frame one day.

We've got a bike thread Paul, lurking in the damp crevices of superculture, despite mine and cheap's best efforts, no fucker ever looks it up :D it would be nice to get it moving.

Here you go..

I used what was left of the rubberised-resin to cast a couple of discs into the lid of a coffe jar, popped them out and stuck them to the wall with contact adhesive..

It stops my bar ends and precious pedals dinking the wall :)

..and whan not in use it clips neatly up to the wall.
