..another thing i noticed recently.. i always get stuck in the Post Office behind lines of Chinese students.. they're usually pulling those wheeled shopping baskets, each one of them has 20-30 small parcels to send, i asked the PO staff what was going on?

Apparently.. when you buy from eBay, Amazon, Tik Tok ..ect .. the seller is based in Shenzen or something.. yet it says 3-4 days postage.. turns out, family members based in China are loading up their offsprings student flats with ebay tat avoiding VAT, customs and a 2 week shipping delay.. it offsets the cost of their education. :D

It looks like the weather is going to turn to shit this weekend so i took today off..

God damn neighbours put this Furby under their tree before they moved back to Holland.. it's been out through the winter yet, 2yrs later and it still speaks, it scares the shit out of me!

When i was a kid, my folks would take me, my friends and cousins out bilberry picking, we'd all have a bucket or a Wall's Icecream tub.. there would be a gang of kids on th hillside, our hands stained purple for the week.. they'd make bilberry jam, bilberry cheesecake, bilberry wine.. we'd live off them through the autumn, yet cost of living crisis and the bilberries are going to waste.. ?

In my younger years, 5-10, was pretty much left to my own devices with cannock chase as my stomping ground. Bilberries were a staple in my diet as it was easier to gorge on them than trek miles back to eat only to head back after!

My kid and 5 or 6 of his mates walked to Hathersage last night, played some pool, got burgers at the pub then got the last bus home.. while walking through Burbage, he said "Ooh! the bilberries are out' and his mates were like.. what the fuck! .. what the hell are you doing?!  don't eat random berries!

I asked him if they ate some after they'd seen you do it.. "no they wouldn't touch them"

Kids today eh? :D

I’d rather go ride 30-50k on a bike in sweltering weather than walk the golf course. The breeze from bike riding helps. Of all the outdoor stuff I’ve done in sweltering heat riding a bike is lower on the list of miserable ones, short of surfing or being out on the water. Now, I’m not in Texas, but we get heat waves up here and I did spend 5 years in central North Carolina.

This^ totally tracks.. we went to play tennis this morning at 11.30am.. it was so flipping hot my brain wouldn't function properly.. first set got to 5-5 and i couldn't even keep the score, we only played for an hour and had to keep sitting in the shade.. i've been for a 4hr bike ride this aftrnoon and felt fine..

When we were on the tennis court, the offspring told me that there are a lot of American tourists on Tik Tok complaining about the crazy stifling heat in the UK.. even though, the temps are lower than in the US. :D

Wow! .. jeans in this weather, I haven’t worn a pair of jeans since around May

My kid has a very similar shirt, it was only £8 from the vintage joint.. he said to me “dad, can you get me a grass hula skirt, I’m going to a Hawaiian party” .. yeah ok when is it? “Erm, Thursday” .. this was a Tuesday night :D

He wore my vintage floral Stussy shorts instead with a Hawaiian shirt from the vintage joint and a string of flowers around his neck B)

Its a great shirt though.. he’s incorporated it into his summer wardrobe..

Me this year and every year since April 2019. Don't start wearing again until September. Whether it's climate change or middle age, this planet is warming up.

With age comes wisdom Charlie..

You've just got to draw a line at some point and for me that point is around 22° .. our weather is glorious and i want to appreciate it as much as possible (our summers used to be awful, we were lucky to get a week without rain) i will appreciate the sunshine more if im wearing a pair of shorts and a t-shirt.. i will appreciate it a lot less if i'm uncomfortably hot, sweating my ass off in a pair of jeans..

I've done it before.. i used to hike the Peaks wearing jeans, vintage repro work boots and mil-repro jacket.. looks cool (from a certain perspective) but in reality i was wearing entirely the wrong clothing for my environment.. i'd be dry and comfortable if i was wearing gore.. so why are you not wearing gore?.. oh yeah, because you're a fkin idiot who cares more about his jeans than his own comfort.. would you wear jeans on the beach while all other folks are in shorts and bikinis? .. well no because it's 30°+ .. well, it's 30°+ everywhere at the moment :D

I appreciate that wearing denim 24/7 gets you nice fades but if the flip is making yourself uncomfortably hot while others are enjoying the sunshine, there is nothing cool about that..

For me the shorts come out around 16 degrees onwards, especially working outside. 24 degrees is too hot too sit outside for long, even under a 'table parasole'. On days like today (33 degrees), l do everything l need to do before 10am, then sit inside with curtains/blinds closed, put the big fan on, watch some old movie and put my feet up.  Today it's 'The Enforcer'

Cider and Wimbledon later 😋

Each to their own, of course, but I'm good with covering up in summer - usually both legs and arms. But then I don't really go out galavanting when the mercury is high - I typically get out early or late if the temps are cooler then.

So many UK folks are soaking up the sun in shorts and t-shirts becoming uncomfortably hot with direct sun on skin... ending up red raw with sunburn - not a cool look imo and even worse given the increasing risk of skin cancer... I hope you boys are wearing your sun screen :)!!

I lived in a hot climate for years. Local folk knew the score and would cover up, stay out the sun and in the shade, stay hydrated etc. The expat Brits would most often do the opposite, ending up looking like lobsters. I've done the latter too much over the years - as a kid, there was not much sun screen going around and a day on the beach, even in the north west, most often meant sunburn. I know my preference.

The jeans need to be sensible, of course - lower weight and spacious - I couldn't personally go all Samurai in high temps like I see around the globe - not my bag but good luck to them. Their dedication to the fades is notable but it can't be pleasant.

I think it's important to wear what's suitable for the climate, but I think it's also worth mentioning how people are acclimated differently as well.
Like 00 said, I'm not going to be wearing jeans to the beach, that's just silly. Or if I'm going to be outside for a long stretch doing something active I'll break out the shorts.
But I'm also pretty used to wearing jeans in 90F / 32C temps from May / June through September / October.
I have a tendency to get swarmed by mosquitos, so wearing jeans in the summer helps a lot with that.

By you blokes standards I'd be stuck in shorts for 90% of the year.  But I'd also probably be the first to break out a jacket while you lot would still be wearing shorts and tees.

Factor 50 for me always.. but if jeans can stop me getting skin cancer then maybe I need to reconsider..  or maybe get a denim gimp mask because my face has a lot more exposure to UV than my legs..

Lucky you! Charlie, I’m back at work today having taken yesterday off but I’m currently sat outside my kids drama workshop in a boiling hot car while he does a read through.
He’s part of the same acting workshop that supplied some of the actors for Netflix drama Adolescent.. alas, with less than 4% of working class folks employed in the arts sector .. it’ll just be him and William the Conqueror’s grandson Danny Dyer.. :D

‘Sadly’ no family slave trading monies to support his acting career like Benedict Cumberbatch.

I’m at the (Lake Michigan) beach a fair amount in summer. As I am right now.
Usually a hooded sun shirt and trunks during the day, but the wind coming off the lake often means jeans aren’t a bad idea morning and evening.

But guys - for me this linen denim thing is a revelation for me.

I got Ues ww2 pair last year, but also de bonne facture made a weave (not selvedge, sorry) and put it in some baggy denim denim trousers that I love - dare say the fabric seems a better quality than what Ues spun up. Less picks, less loom chatter, better color. Both are winners though.

Since I’m generally preferring pants even in warmer weather this is the best jean solution I’ve found for warmer days. Once it’s past 85* tho I really have to assess what I’m gonna be doing outside, shorts might still win.

I'm not that familiar with what Brits do abroad.. sorry British people but i'm on holiday.. i'm trying my best to get away from you fuckers!

..but from my experience folks in hot climates don't cover up.. the elderly do but the elderly cover up here as well, for most folks, it's lighweight shorts, sleeveless or regular t-shirt and flip flops.. most young women, it's hotpants over a bikini.. flip-flops, floppy hat and sunglasses..

Ask any honest dermatologist - needing sunscreen, esp obsessive coverage with high spf reapplied all the time isn’ universal.

They’ve just taken the measure that pale skinned people with skin cancer in their lineage need to take and made that public health guidance for everyone because they figure the public can’t parse the nuances.

The reality is that the risk profile is different (less) for someone with darker skin and a history of not really burning and no skin cancer in their family, for example. That’s not me though, so I try to be decent enough protection - preferably thru clothes and hats tho.

^^ depends where you are in the world and who you're with, of course... on my recent-ish stays in ME, SA, India, Bosnia etc the local folk I've been with typically head for shade and keep covered up in the heat. I've just had a milkshake in Leeds student area and there's a smattering of bikinis and vest tops about :)

^ true... for example my Afro Caribbean mates don't bother with sun screen, they reference their in-built protection... while I'm in factor 50 with a hat in the shade...

All this beach talk clearly not coming from Northern California / Pacific Northwest folks…growing up around here, beach-wear always meant jeans and a wool sweater, even way before I cared about what jeans I was wearing

Just in the past 10ish years it’s started getting a lot more common for us to see sunshine & temps in the 70s, but it always used to be you had to go a few miles inland to get away from the fog & the winds

Here’s a good reflection of what folks wear in SA.. This was favela Rocinha Brazil (so non of these folks are tourists) mid-day in the height of the summer.

The guy who we was with (Ramirez) said “don’t point your camera at teenagers carrying automatic weapons” :D

We did Sao Paulo, Ipanema, Copacabana, Botofogo,  Salvador and Buzios.. the clothing didn’t change much (apart from Salvador with its Afro-brazilian influence) even though it’s hot af! It also pissed it down with hot rain on the regular so cheap, lightweight and fast drying with flip flops for the locals. B)
