Japan Blue isn't sold in Japan so the price can be lowered due to less competition. I've seen both in person and other than that, the only other difference I could find were Japan Blue's didn't have back pocket rivets and Momotaros used Zimbabwe cotton

I just received my pair of Japan Blue X momotaros from Blueowl.

it blows everything out of the water in this price range ...

the denim is really nice! denim is very stiff and dark! lots texture too!

Construction is top of the top! only detail missing would be some hidden rivets, but this is a modern jean, no need for that really...

Just got a pair of the JB0701s from Context in the mail today, they are a really beautiful slim cut. Fit very snug right out of the box but started to feel good after even just a little wear - go true to size. Pics coming soon hopefully, might hem first though

my 5.5 month NFxMomotaro and i'm wearing Momotaro tee and Peony Label (the first ladies label of Momotaro)

270501_10150226398551547_592366546_7267533_6701528_n.jpg

268041_10150226398521547_592366546_7267532_1490771_n.jpg

if you're wondering how the fit looks like, here i took the measurement of my size 28 Peony Label

2-2.jpg?t=1302608857

3-2.jpg?t=1302608904

size 28 is measured

waist: 28″

rise: 10″

thigh: 10″

leg opening: 7.8″

inseam: 32″

The jeans have a more loose fit in comparison to the current Straight Leg jeans for women. I really like the vintage style and different elements in the jeans. A flash from the past. “Back in the day†that is few years ago, Momotaro Jeans’ Ladies’ Line was called Peony Label. The label featured ladies’ jeans that use similar fabric as the current Ladies’ Line but distinctive features such as different waist patch and yellow and pink Copper Label stitching on the right back pocket.

Today the Ladies’ Line is divided into Ladies’ Going To Battle Label with pink Japan lines and Ladies’ Copper Label with the same tobacco stitching as with men’s Copper Label.

dear SuFu

i'm just trying to clarify the confusion between Japan Blue and Momotaro. (i think Rubyblue can explain it better than me but hey i'll keep it short).

Momotaro and Japan Blue are completely 2 separated brands even though they're under the same company and they have their "collaboration" jeans like NFxMomotaro or KikstyoxMomotaro. i know it's been confusing since both brands are not brought up by the way they should be. apparently they have their own characteristics.

After i came to Capsule show in Paris few weeks ago, i got a chance to see, touch and feel the Japan Blue jeans myself. I also talked to Japan Blue Momotaro crews and discussed with Rubyblue, all I can say that the jeans are completely different in terms of fit, material and specification.

(sorry i have to repost the pictures again)

Japan Blue (JB0701, JB0703, JB0101)

165763_193275137349335_128488217161361_750318_5991886_n.jpg

IMO those 3 jeans represent the Japan Blue itself even though they still use "peach boy" patch, the rest is 100% Japan Blue (fabric, detail, flasher and even the lot says JB)

Momotaro specification on 0700SP and 0100SP

164086_193275044016011_128488217161361_750317_893496_n.jpg

these 2 are more like "collaboration" jeans as you can see the Momotaro GTB specification (button, patch, battle stripes, rivets, flasher) on these jeans except the material and fit. the lot name is also adopted from Momotaro GTB label (0705SP, tight straight). concerning the fits, 0700SP is slightly tapered than 0705SP and 0100SP is tighter and more tapered than 0700SP (that's why they call it skinny straight)

In general, Japan Blue also has more/less the same rigid/stiff feeling and dark indigo as Momotaro does but the way they produce their jeans is different. Japan Blue is produced in more modern techniques, modern machinery, higher output production than Momotaro which keeps the vintage way (sewing techniques, specifications).

Both are great jeans but attract different audience. For Momotaro lovers, they'll stick to vintage feel of Momotaro where as Japan Blue is more commercial in terms of price as they will compete with those jeans made in China etc etc... (trust me, with the same price you'll get way better quality ;))

Hopefully i explained it right, if i said something wrong please correct me.

cheers

That's quite a good explanation Kayo :-)

It was nice discussing the topic with you, and as you noticed JB will stand on it's own (patch on the new model).

Basically, there are 3 fits now, the 0100 series (based upon N&F skinny guy) low rise skinny straight, the new 0400 series tapered straight (for those who need more thigh-room compared to the 0700 series, and last the 0700 series tight straight.

Regarding cloth, it ranges from 14.8oz vintage selvage denim woven on Toyodas out of 100% American cotton, 14oz JapanBlue denim (a more greenish cast, like natural indigo dyed cloth from way-back) woven out of 100% Zimbabwe cotton and last 13.5oz Deep Blue denim (blue weft x black warp) woven out of 100% Zimbabwe cotton

In terms of fading, these are harder to fade due to the different dye used (if you look for a fast fading jeans, look elsewhere)... but they do fade awesome!

And, as Kayo noticed : everything is 100% produced in-house, Kojima,Japan.

Momotaro will always be Momotaro, while JB will continue to evolve. The group is innovative in terms of weaving/developing and the label JB be so as well.

The product has hit the shelves a while ago, so please keep us updated about the experiences with the JB brand. Every feedback is welcome and appreciated.

Below Mr Manabe (president & founder of JB group), Kishimoto (the man behing the JB label), Katsu Manabe, and myself... posing the Japanese way I'd say.

I might as well share some EVO-pix of my Momotaros, xcuse the studio shot, but colors are accurate:

Vintage label 0901, 120 days of wear, size 30, that's TTS-1 (for a slightly tighter fit), 1 cold soak oafter 2 weeks of wear, 3 cold washes so far :

Rubyblue, yes the color is pretty much the same but i saw your jeans in person and they are way nicer than pictures! i think i might end up voting your jeans for wear and tear project :)

and thank your for posting the detail of Japan Blue, that's what i'm expecting from you. i still remember either you or Katsu explained me about the sulphur dyeing process but i like the evo of Kishimoto's 6months JB, pretty impressive even though they're not the fast fading jeans.

oh btw, where was i at the picture? damn, i missed Capsule first day haha....

hi,

how is the stretch on this model?

http://blueowl.us/scripts/psp/VB_Bridge3.dll?VBEXE=f:\InetPub\scripts\psp\bin\Shop.Prodt.Detail.exe&SKU=7992001&CONFIG001=Indigo&CONFIG002=31

says true waist of 30 is 31. my waist is 32. but 30 tagged has the perfect leg measurments for me;) i got a waist stretcher aswell

Denim is sanforized and very stable. Stretches a bit (normal wear), does barely shrink after a hot soak IMO. No skewing either.

Hope this helps.

@rublyblue: nice progress! Makes me miss my 0201 even more.

Thx! I know the feeling, from time to time I still wear my 0201's, but they're in need for some restoration work after 12m of hard wear. Meanwhile, keep on rockin' your 0905's!
