Evolution of Leather Goods: Before and After Pictures

What do you guys think of the skull mid lengths that self edge are selling? I wanted to get a flat head but they were sold out so I got one of the skulls without thinking too much. Better bang for the buck? Leather quality? Should I return and wait for a flat head? Thanks

I have one of those skull mid length wallets and love it, plenty of room for CC's and it changes nicely over time. Unfortunately I only put 4 months or so into mine before I received another wallet as a gift and swapped out for that one instead. Hopefully one day I'll get back to my unloved skull wallet.

Keep it!!! in time it will achieve a very nice evo.

how many hours does 1 day tanning include? i mean, it is kind of a stupid question. but is it from 8am to 7pm or are 6 hours just fine? i tanned my belt for 3 days (altogether 21 hours) and it was really very warm. was that enough?

left it outside for 24 hours, sun up/sun down

i tanned my corter belt for 3 days. after tanning, i applied some obenaufs oil with cotton wool (how can i find out if i used too much)?. 1 hour after oiling i used obenaufs lp.

2 days later i used it the first time and there was a lot of fuzz from the cotton wool on it i just put it away with my fingers.

did i do everything right?

sounds about right, don't over oil it. The leather only needs a little bit rubbed into it and then use it. You'll get other oils (such as from you hands) on it over time. I only oil my stuff maybe once or twice a year if that much...

Does the black tanner belt show wear well? Can't see how it would age as well as the lighter coloured belts, but the website says it does and I would think black would be more practical for everyday wear. Any pics? Looked through some of the thread didn't see any

I've had it for 2.5 months or so at this point. Decided to tan it a little more and re-oil it today. I'm sure it will lighten up a bit more as the oil sinks in and dries.

  • 2 weeks later...

I found this old leather bomber jacket my grandfather wore flying B-24's over Japan in WWII. The leather is old and dried out and unfortunately there is a large tear on the upper right part of the chest.

I am wondering where is the best place to send this to be restored and perhaps repair the large tear?

That is a lovely jacket.

I know there are specialist leather tailors around. I know of one in NYC with good reviews, but I don't know if they take mail ins.

If they don't do it, maybe it might worth proxying it to someone in the NYC proximity.
