Well, just look at all the close-ups in the link. I think it has a great deep color and nice texture

^you're def gonna love Geisha denim, trust me :)

i love my 16oz Geisha, they're as slub as other sams denim, uneven woven fabric and texture is amazing, oh the pink silver selvage is pretty....

ok, i know some of you are going to banish me for blasphemy but I gotta get this out of my system -- the Blue Shadows...undeniably beautiful and gorgeous details but...do we really need a lighter weight 710? I ask not as a hater but as a lover: I've become Samurai obsessed this past year and the devoted fan says "GET THESE!!" but the rational thinker says, "Really? what's the point?" I get it when heavier versions of the same model come out, or when special weaves and dyes are used (the whole "Elements" gimmick was genius and therefore worth every penny of getting another s5000) but other than the fact that these are 17oz and not 19, is the denim really all that different to justify another pair of 710s? Please...rationalize for me...

Having compared my friend SNg's 710s and my Blue shadows, no pair is better or worse, just personal preference. Heavier doesn't mean better and lighter doesn't mean worse.

The 17oz Blue Shadow uses Samurai's famous "zero" denim which has different properties than the 19oz. They fade differently and feel different. Some people actually prefer lighter denim. I think it's great that they provide variety.

The 710's they made in 15oz texas cotton sold out immediately, but not sure why you'd want them heavier than 19oz anyway, other than wearing in the cold.

I just ordered 25oz IH's for one reason only - so I don't have to put on long underwear every day all friggin' winter.

damn you...waiting for them fitpics :)

also what is Kaskus? It looks like just forum community to me, is there more to it than that? I searched samurai on there and found a listing i think those pictures are from (although there were only 2 pictures in the listing). The title said "samurai jeans replica". So these were being sold as fakes?

kaskus is this hybrid online forum in indonesia, which is best described as a sort of combo of ebay, supertalk and craigslist (including its missed connections). it has sort of developed into its own economy, complete with homegrown paypal services etc. it was recently bought by a major indonesian cigarette company for very big money.

it even has its own rep system, with cendol (green rice jelly usually put in cold drinks) for +rep and bata (bricks) for neg. :)

the great indonesian denim forum darahkubiru (my blood is blue), which is now having the samurai contest with the zero denim 710 (precursor to blue shadows), started out as a thread in kaskus if im not mistaken.

you can buy everything in kaskus from live (original ;)) sharks to real samurais to fake samurais (and iron hearts). and yes they are marketed as "replicas" or as we know it in indonesia, KW (short for KWalitas=quality). you can get different quality of KW products, KW1 for a really good copy, KW2 for not so good, etc.

this KW thing is interesting/problematic psycho/socio-logically. since things like samurais are way beyond the price range of most indonesians, some of them are quite happy to buy the KW version as long as they get the chance to fool some people some of the time into thinking they might be wearing a legit pair. or sometimes between themselves they know what theyre wearing and what their friends are wearing are KW products, and the contest becomes: who has the best KW product?

the best KW (pronounced Kah-Way) is called KW Super.

the goods themselves are either made locally or in china. when indonesian tourists go to shanghai they are invariably taken to a KW hypermarket where they can buy assorted quality copies of branded goods (mostly handbags).

theres a really interesting debate on KW products on the darahkubiru forum but i cant find the thread at the moment, perhaps other dabir members can help?

[edit: heres the darahkubiru KW debate thread (for those who can read indonesian/are used to googletranslationisms/rakuten english): http://www.darahkubiru.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=2928]

Thank you for that description. It appears that my original post was misinterpreted as being about 19oz vs 17oz...I see now how my wording led people to think that but that wasn't my original intent. I guess what I should have written in plain English was this:

"Help me!!! I'm a hopeless addict and I need someone to rationalize to me why I should or should not add the Blue Shadows to my collection!"

I was asking for input because left to my own devices, I will simply just buy them on sheer impulse. I have no restraint anymore now that I'm lucky enough to have a good paying job to afford this habit. However a small part of me that still has rational thought was considering this: this past year and a half ALONE I have bought the s710, the s500JX-LR, and the 24oz s5000s. If I'm going to buy yet another pair of Sammies, does it really need to be another version of the 710s? That's what I was debating.

IMO the 19oz denim fades with higher contrast and somewhat faster.

But maybe I have this impression, because the S710XX (19oz) is more popular along Sufu and the more active kids on Hypebeast (because of the slimmer cut) so you see more examples of high contrast fades on the S710XX.

Fit pic of the S510XX 21OZ Sz 31 jeans I bought on the SuFu

Marketplace from whozdrew? I love these and need to

find the time to wear them. They are tough, thick and rigid...

AND very comfortable. Thanks whozdrew? for

giving me a great deal and shipping them fast ! I hot

washed/tumble dried these once, as well as got them altered,

after receiving them.

Sorry for being annoying but today is largely dedicated to

neglected fit pics. These I just purchased from

ah_long, Sz31, S510XX-24OZ . As you would expect,

the man gave me a smashing deal and I received them

ridiculously quickly. The denim on these dance a fine

balance between insane toughness, thickness and yes--

even smoothness. They're very, very comfy. Can't wait to

start wearing these...post wash/dry, I believe these

would be 27-oz. ah_long soaked these once, I'll do

the usual of hot wash/hot tumble dry before wearing them

for real. Unfortunately, I'm not a motorcycle courier like

evilcrayon...I probably don't deserve these and my

evo will be totally lame, but oh well...

To get the really nice honeycombs, try keeping your knees bent during the hot soak and after as the creases will set better leaving some really nice fades. I have done this and it works great.
