Leepro Appreciation

This is one of those things I have a hard time getting my mind around. So regardless of the visible selvage, Lee's half selvage and no (visible) selvage were still the same fabric as when they were visible selvage just cheaper to make on wider looms? I hope that makes sense. Also since they both bought from Cone and Lee and Levi went to wide at different times that means Cone was transitioning technology and probably Levi had a quality or tradition issue with going wide?

Exactly.

Wide looms appeared in the early 50s, the Draper X-3 I think, just the same as their narrow looms, but they could make fabric in bigger widths. Few people thought the lack of a selvage line was an issue.

No, my 1936 was a Sz 30 - i don't know if you remember our discussion on the 1936 and you told me they are over sized and I should size down which I did and it worked out perfectly. So even though I bought a 30 in 1936 and I'm a 32 it fit just fine after a soak. I got the 1944 in 31 and I wear a 32, figure maybe after a soak might stretch to 32.

I'm going to get a pair of 1942 101. I am a true 33, would it be pushing it if I size down 2?

i am a 32 and i got the 1942 in size 30 , they seem to be a bit tighter around the waist then the 101z or the 1959. so hart to tell, i would size down to either 31 or 32.

check out the edwin furutaka site for measuremebts and ask the dealer before you order.

and no i am not the expert, there are a lot of guys here that have lees and know about them

no i cant decide on a new pair at the moment. did you ?

by the way paul off topis but did you see the warehouse whisky cat pants that aho posted?

I was going for the hair on hide but they sold out . I love the others, specially the 131 but have a few cinch pairs under the bed including 1890 lvc and the 201. I worry about having too many pairs, Seems a bit. Consumerist specially when I've just sold lots of cameras, planning for a new digital. So in the end I sent my lee money to Haiti . Sorry Fardin feel I've let u down, but I do have a newish and a worn pair of 101z on rotation!

My Lee Japan 1930 101 Cowboy pants are as good as any other japanese denim jean, and they have the heritage to boot.

Really taken by them, although I dont get to wear them as much as I'd like, but will post pix soon (when there's a bit more fade!)

How's your's doing?

they are fine. i am not such a fading crack, i just take em as they come but i love mine, i wear em most of the time and i love the fit, what so nice too is that i can wear my sugarcane belt with em since the cinch is so low. i should finally take some pics.

Do any of the Lee's come in size 38 or 40? Everything I've seen tops out at size 36.

Thanks.

The 1930 Lee 101's mentioned, come in a size 36 (which measure 38.5-39").

I am a 34" and originally ordered that size from Ratuken (going by their crap sizing chart) and discovered that they measured 37.5"!

Sold them for less than half the price, and when Aeroleather got them in got a size 32/34 after Will @ aero measured them, and they measured 35.5/37 before washing. They now measure 35/31 (had them hemmed).

As for other Lee models, i couldn't say.

Hope this helps?

hope the sizing will be ok paul, you wont be disappointed by them.

i mailed okini a wile back but didnt get a satisfying answer. whats the difference between the 1930s 101b for 72 and 90 pounds?

I can't see any difference. Same pockets, stitching, and tag, the only difference in the photos is one is even more oversized on the model than the other. The £90 pair do mention a 'well worn wash on 2-sded selvage". So... I don't understand.

I did take the last 30W of the £72 version, sorry.

i know this is the leepro thread but im sure this is the best audience for my inquiry...i found some old lees at the thrift shop with the half lined pockets, copper riviets with capital letters, union made, left hand twill, with the m.r. next to the r on the tag.and a double selvage, not the usual half selvage. i have not heard of anything like this. does anyone know anything about these jeans

Yes, post pix!

Off the top of my head I think the MR are later reissues, and that these might be from the 90s, given they're double selvage. But pics will tell us for sure. And those first 90s reissues are great jeans.

Fardin and others - did no-one grab any of the Edwin-made Lees now Oko Ni has dropped sale prices?
