Why do people still claim that stuff is made in Japan with old American machines. While this may sometimes be the case it is not the majority. They said this about looms and I don't really believe it is entirely true of old sewing machines like Union Specials, etc.

In defense of Cathy Horyn, she said "machines" and not "looms, and therefore she's correct. Most of the sewing machines they're using to produce the jeans we love so much (aka, the JP brands we actually care about) are vintage American machines bought from the Americans. This is definitely not true when talking about looms, which is an entirely other story.

Edit: You do realize who Cathy Horyn is, right? She knows more about garment production and fashion than 500 of the top posters on Sufu combined.

Being well liked doesn't have much to do with knowledge, she knows more than you'd believe about the industry and how it all works. Her experience and knowledge is inspiring. I respect journalists that are disliked by the brands or companies they criticize, it takes a special type of person to be able to look at the field that supports them and honestly give their opinion without worry of the consequences. All this in a world of crap media, we need more people like Cathy Horyn in our world.

I am not saying that there are not companies who use old vintage sewing machines, but I don't think the majority of them do or better yet that a majority of the sewing/serger machines and chainstitch machines are vintage American. I have seen pics of factories in Japan and most of the sewing machines are Juki's and a lot of the chainstitch machines are kansai specials. I know they do use vintage American machines in some factories, but Cathy Horyn makes it seem like all the apparel in your store is made on vintage American machines, which is at best 60% right. It seems like she says it to make it seem more special than it is.

And I do not know or care who Cathy horyn is.

Hey Kiya, think ill pick up a pair of the Red-D DBs with the LetsDrink sale today. You said it would be the same tagged size(preshrunk) as my FHF310s?

Just went and bought one of the Mister Freedom Scarves, those things are beautiful

The run 1" larger in the waist than FH jeans, size down one.

Kiya, will you be getting the flathead workshirt (not western) chambrays?

Yup, we'll have em in two weeks. Just got a restock of the red Heavy Winter flannel though..
