Happy jeans: TCBxSufu S40s WW2 contest thread

We were talking about killing patches in another thread (can't remember which), and I mentioned TCB as particularly having patches that crisp up on me. Well it finally happened to my contest pair, without intention

First time checking in with my pair. 
 

When these arrived, I was concerned with the undersized waist. They fit nice and snug in raw state. I almost sold them, but ultimately wound up giving them a warm soak and then dried them around a custom wooden waist stretcher. 
 

I’m happy with the decision to keep them, as the waist did stretch considerably. In fact, I’m very pleased with the fit and they are very comfortable. The high rise is wonderful. 

In terms of this particular denim, and I am nitpicking here, I’ll just say I much prefer the 20’s and 50’s Tcb denims. I don’t dislike this 40’s denim, but for some reason it doesn’t excite my passions. 
 

This pair has not been worn hard and have held up nicely. Just one minor repair to the back pocket stitching. A great pair of jeans.

Great to see all the well worn pairs on here and a flavour of what is to come with my jeans with future wear.

My pair were one wash and the patch has relaxed a bit with future washes. The design has become more prominent as the patch has become smoother. The red tab has also unfurled a bit too over time, which was welcome.

one part ive really learned to appreciate on these is the high rise! every other pair i wear now feels low rise to me

Been on vacation for a week and the 40s got a well deserved break. Decided to work from home today as there’s a storm coming in a few hours, but trying to catch the last sun rays for the day.

@Yot So nice!! The fading process is so odd, mine are much bluer than yours but have much more holes(I think haha). Curious!

Yes @Hopethisoneisnttaken, that's the fun of a contest where so many people wear the jeans hard til the end - we get to see so many different results from the same start. I always wear through the crotch multiple times in a year and require back pocket repair. The crotch tears from cycling and a lot of walking in NYC. The back pocket tears from my keys hanging from the fob and the excessively thick leather on the Kawatako wallet. I lose about six weeks of wear time on a year-long contest getting the jeans darned for repairs. I could have them back faster from basic patch repairs, but darning just looks and wears so much better.

Interesting @Jared_Lee, I haven’t tried a crotch darning repair yet but can you have them re-darned over a previous darned repair?

@Maynard Friedman, yep, they can continue the darning over the existing darned area as it wears thin again and also expand out from the first repaired area as needed.

401 wear days and just gave them their 6th wash. No darns, but good to know darns can be darned upon! Got through the left knee, but won’t do any repairs at this point.

I was of the same mind until recently: they seemed basic at the beginning but for me are now just into more complexity once they got softer; where not pleasant to wear in the warmer weather when stiff for sure! really took a while to get into the slimmer leg than the 50s/20s so have not worn them as much as I could: but they are just relaxing into the shape I want them now... 

big shout out to @volvo240thebest for organising all this and so sorry to hear life is not treating you well; hoping the year of the tiger gives you more love! 

as to the blog nature of the 20s comp vs this one; the pandemic has meant that all there was to photo was various corners of the flat or my local park's ping pong table... suffice to say that only goes so far!

respect to all the fades out there; I still have a way to take these; so not really showing fades here, just happiness with the high rise str8 leg drape...

Did a nice hike with my partner at the Tennessee Valley trail and beach in Marin Co yesterday, trying to get the last few wears in before the contest in. My jeans are supple, soft, so easy to wear. Only one hole in the left back pocket where I carry my phone. This beach is really cool, if you catch the tide going down, you can sneak into a secret cove-that’s where most of these pictures were taken. The rocks are gorgeous, all the colors, shapes, textures.

not much to offer on my pair. crotch ist getting holes right back pocket is blown. stitching starts to weae out here and there. patch is jerky. still a bit damp after the last wash.

I’m wearing my contest pair for the 1st time since before the Christmas holidays … life & work got in the way, sadly.

I’ll be Michael Douglas [ᖇᑌᑎᑎIᑎᘜ] ... awful-lest Olympic movie, btw … injured & limping across the finish line after midnight when everyone has gone home & in bed sleeping, or whatevs.

I'm excited to see everyone's results! Some stress/work from home weight gain made these pretty uncomfortable to wear for a good part of last year, but I've shed some lbs and I'm back in them. Sadly I have no chance of winning.

@CSL pretty much. Someone will probably start a final submissions thread, and you can add final and progress pics and any thoughts. There will be some time limit, say two weeks, to submit photos before judging. Several of the Japanese contestants are on IG only, so I guess they will be submitting photos here.
