Scottish influence? Rouken Glen was an old piece of Scottish crown land, and now a public park, in Giffnock (on the southern edge of Glasgow)

You are correct! The architect and developer were both Scottish.

It’s a very nice place to call home. I’ll get out and go the other way to get some more pics. 2 of those houses are new builds, the very first white one and the other white one towards the bottom that looks new. The others are all original houses from the 30s.

It's a good little pub, they put a chalk board outside with a list of the beers they have on that day, some kegs are as little as 8 pints, when they've gone they cross them out, they sell out most days and start a'fresh the next, or they used to.

A lot of the shops have resident cats or dogs (there's a park right outside so the dogs get a good walk at lunch time) but whereas the dogs are curled up in their baskets the cats are often slinking around elsewhere, apart from George who spends his day sitting on the counter.

What a nice place to live Double 00 - combination of normal and poncey and unusual places. And the houses geography and all the trees lovely too. Certainly not the part of Sheffield I used to pass through on the way to Hull way back in my past

Photos over recent pages of incongruous minecraft houses prompted me to walk to town via the old Royal Worcester china works today to snap a more harmonious development.

The works closed about 15 years ago and has been converted to flats (or apartments to the inhabitants) and commercial space. Amongst the original structures they’ve chucked up some fairly complimentary buildings.

New and old

40ACC6DA-4E76-4DF9-894F-BADD0229847E.thumb.jpeg.15d0ea1d8df8eb8d27e7cb852b56fe10.jpeg

A little bit of everything. Old, new and derelict

75384DF1-B387-4B14-80F1-CB88C973042D.thumb.jpeg.a36ba0219098a403f028e3bf0a7eb45b.jpeg

Planners probably deserve a respectable 8/10.

Full marks would have been awarded if they’d rejected all applications and turned the derelict works over to nature and squatters. That’s why I don’t work in planning.

A little gem hidden among the red brick

And in case the gentrification is lost on any locals, they’ve chucked in a craft gin distillery for good measure

And a few minutes the other direction a working works where the air smells of Worcester Sauce

Was out in the dark this morning. We are having a full moon on Halloween and I caught it just as it was going down. Will probably get out my good camera tonight and tomorrow morning to see if I can come up with anything besides a bright ball (I don't have a phone camera app so no way to do manual settings on there).

This is a little over the top, and merging an iPhone picture with one from a DSLR isn't ideal, but otherwise my moon shots from last night are just the moon on a black background. This is very much not a single shot and the moon is never this big in real life.

Brutalist, Modernist, ReadyMix...?

I haven't got anything to do at the mo so i was in no rush to get to work this morning, i took a cycle ride around some of the remnants of the cities concrete past.. so much has already been lost, The Eggbox, The Wedding Cake, Hole in' Road to name but a few... i started out not far from our house at Trinity United Reform Church designed by John Mark Mansell Jenkinson c1971 which looks absolutely terrifying! in the thick morning haze, if you can't find any answers here the previously mentioned Meditation/Budhist Center is right next door and if you don't find enlightenment there.. worry not, the Full Spectrum CBD joint is just down the road :)
fullsizeoutput_2a1f

...from here I cycled up the long hard slog to Norton (it was further than i thought) and the imposing Oaks Water Tower c1961, up here on the higher ground it was still a pea-souper, i couldn't even see the damn water tower so here's a better image (not mine)

fullsizeoutput_2a2f

...i crossed over the road and nailed it down the hill through the Gleadless Estate mentioned earlier in @Maynard Friedman Municipal Dreams post, this modernist church sits nicely in it's surroundings, designed by architects Braddock & Martin-Smith c1965

I'll take it as a compliment :)

Victorian and Modern sit cheek and jowl in the city, for instance in theater square just to the right of the  Crucible's 70's snookery-kitsch is the Victorian grandeur of the Lyceum where we to go to watch panto, nothing says ridiculous like watching pantomime in a snooty old theater with polite doormen in hats..

Sheffield-Theatres-External-by-Craig-Fleming_42eeadf036031360464e0e89fc25cea0

It was the same with the old/new (Eggbox) town hall mentioned earlier in the thread, folks don't seem to give a crap when they want to demolish Modern to make way for the new but they're appalled at the thought of demolishing Victorian.

Right... about time I posted a few pics here... (part 1 now then will sort out part 2 next)

A round trip along the parade and through the park... pics from around April / May ^_^ during the first lockdown when everything was eerily quiet outdoors

They say it’s a pleasant leafy suburb in the north east of the city... thumbs up for a diverse local population and plenty to do for the kids and grown-ups

4 miles to the city centre, under 2 hours by train to the big smoke of London town, 90 mins to the coast

Local gym closed – new plans to keep physically and mentally fit were needed

#1 2020 Snapfitness.jpg

Along the parade… awash with single origin filters and associated pleasantries

#1a 2020 Oakwood Parade.jpg

Local clock of over 100 years – started off life in the City Market

#2a 2020 Oakwood Clock.jpg

#2b 2020 Oakwood Clock.JPG

#2b Oakwood clock original.JPG

Care homes skirt the park and random houses like this (selected ‘cos it was there)

#3 2020 Lockdown Care Home.jpg

#4 2020 Rounday House.JPG

Everton’s future #10 takes us onto the fantastic local park… a public park since 1871 no less… 700 acres of lakes, woodland, sports pitches and gardens… there is lots to love

... And some things not to love… in summer they (well they did in the old days) hold gigs like Ed Shearan… forcing me to stand at my front gate and tut at the messy masses in transparent rainmacs glugging cheap booze…

I didn’t know Goodison was a public park ... I mean I could have guessed given the state of the turf. So basically they just allowed football on it 7 years after it opened?

^ ha well yes you'd have good cause to think Goodison was public park where anyone plays after yesterday's performance <_<

Spot on stats though mate - 1878 was indeed the magical year of the Toffee's creation

If only we were that close to the ground - this is t'other side of the Pennines in good old Yorkshire
