Levi's Vintage Clothing

Recommended Posts

Does anyone here have a pair of '78 501s? I'm signed up for '44s in the Cultizm LVC Contest, but I'm on the fence. Cultizm describes the '78 as having some of heaviest 501 denim, thick and hairy. I'm intrigued, but I don't want to rely on Dejan's mannequin for the fit pic.

78 should also have sulphur topped indigo, which loses its color quickly... at least if its a true repro.

...sounds dope...like super rich blue over the indigo?

Have you worn a pair, either vintage or repro? If they would compare too much to the Evisu 0005 cut I wouldn't want to try them. I wore that cut for a couple of months last year. Didn't hate it, but it was far from ideal for me.

burned up all my rep on denim porn, thanks for the info.

I can't dig the arcs on the 78. Levi's start fading fast after the mid 60's for me. I like the '66 but the lack of rivet back pockets almost ruins it. Actually I just noticed the arcs on the 66 suck also.

Less-than-desirable arcs, tab-stitched pockets, and little-e tag...it would be a risk for me, especially with my fairly recent interest in denim. It'd be another 1.5-2 years I could be spending on a more fundamental or iconic cut.

We'll see. If the fit will work well and the fabric is as nice/interesting as I've been hearing, I'll try them. It would be a nice addition to the contest in any case.

I need a pair of LVC for the Cultizm contest, and was thinking of 37's. How are the sizing of these?

I have a pair of '55's, tagged 32, which are a *bit* roomy. I also have a pair of '47s, tagged 34, which a *bit* slim. Any suggestions on sizing?

I'm also open to suggestsions for a different cut. I want a pair that has two back pockets and button fly, and prefer the color of the 55's to the 47's.

^Hi Stefan. Don't you have enough denim for the next few years?...

by the way,

1-yes they're made in USA with kaihara denim. Their 14.5 oz denim is one of my favourites from the LVCs I own.

2-They're sanforized so you don't need to soak them before wear. They shrink about one inch or less after a wash and they will stretch back.

3-yes they're true to size. you can size down one on these cause they stretch and don't shrink. they have a very long back rise.

measurements on my size 34x34 after many washes:

waist: 34

inseam: 34.5

back rise: 16.5

I hope this helps!

Somewhere in this thread, Paul T (maybe others too) mentioned that downsizing the '55 looks great. It's too bad "55" is too short of a keyword to search this thread.

From what I've seen the 1955 is one of the best that LVC has made. I just wish I could fine my size. For all of you thinking about getting the 1947, I'd pass nothing really special about it and it fits way too tight IMO. (For a cut that's supposed to be from the 40's).

How'd you size those? What is the tag size vs other tag size of LVC you may or may not have owned in the past? Thinking of getting those for the contest.....

I sized them true and got my normal waist size of 30x34. They stretched a lot.
