ROY X CONE contest, 1.1.11 - 2.1.12

Robbie - looks like an amazing place! Stuff like that is fewer and farther between these days...

Mike - mmmmm! :)

pomata

I suspect isn't actually wearing his contest jeans. I think he got a 32 waist- you could ask him, sweapea.

If he'd give them over, I for one would like to have you along. Be nice to have a second woman (as opposed to a second "lady", which according to subjective definitions we have from 0 to 30 of). And if you do as much justice to the Roys as you do to your Mr. Freedoms, you'd be a force to be reckoned with.

Ahaha! ZING!!! All kidding aside - sweapea I'd love to see you in this!! C'mon Pomata, how about giving her a shot? :)

^ Ozark culture? Don't know much about it, must Wiki.

It is a small region in Arkansas/Missouri, this park kind of highlights certain aspects of its culture : Like bluegrass music, certain foods (Succotash,Okra,BBQ,etc), regional craft styles, etc.

Doc- I think your zoo beats ours hands-down. Cool photos.

Fre$co- nice work! Looking forward to post-wash photos.

My Roys and I spent most of Saturday on my bike! It started with the usual trip to the bakery and gardener's market, but it was the first time I've ridden it. Perfect day for it.

d6070d39.jpg

The evening was pretty comical. Some friends organized a Bikes and Brews tour, and about 18 of us rode around to several bars.

I remembered to take photos of the first two, but then the rest was a bit of a blur. We ended at my house for more beers, but not before someone apparently had to tell me how to get there.

I think I've mostly cured my mild hangover with a nice greasy lunch.

Battered and fried.

Never had fried okra before - I always just chuck them into noodle soup, maybe with some stuffing instead - must give it a go sometimes.

Excellent Updates Doc & Zissou

This afternoon we hopped on ol 66 and headed east to visit my grandparents in Vinita,OK. Along the way we stopped at a favorite roadside attraction : the Blue Whale in Catoosa. It is where my wife and I had one of our first dates.

5898254966_751b8d0a71_z.jpg

Apparently a husband built it as a gift to his wife in the late 60s. It served as a

swimmin hole up until the 80's.

Then we continued on to one of my favorite antique haunts in all the world

saw this old Levis ad on a rodeo magazine , too rich for my blood.

Picked up some blotters though that were a little more reasonable:

Tried to have dinner at Clanton's Cafe on 66 no dice.

Anyhow, was a pretty good day. Can't wait for tommorow, with any luck its full of meat and blowin shit up.

I've been lurking for so long I forget comment on everyone's amazing posts. I usually try to rep when I can but I gotta spread all the time blah blah blah.

I went to my sister's house so I had to take the train from Grand Central.

picsay-1309740574.jpg

Never really looked up before after passing through here hundreds of times.

The train I took.

picsay-1309740592.jpg

Passing by a random bridge. There are over 2,000 bridges and tunnels in the NYC area.

Train tracks and the Hudson.

That night I finished sewing on buttons on my ROYs.

And finally a fit.

^They look great, as do the buttons.

The stars on the ceiling of Grand Central station are described in one of my favorite books- A Winter's Tale by Mark Helprin. I've read about them before but never seen them. Thanks!

Great fit not too tight - it does look really good with the suspenders!

Have a great 4th of July!

Well, here's my Canada Day long weekend roundup. We had friends visiting for the weekend, and after a day of cycling, we had an early dinner out. Quite a variety - club sandwiches, butter chicken, and my favourite - steak!

Dinner was early so that we could digest & have a few beers before the evening fireworks.

What with all our guests, we skipped going to the big productions this year, and stayed local. It was still pretty fun. A sampling of what we saw for an hour or so….

The detritus of the day….

We had great weather all weekend, except for an overnight thunderstorm, which cooled things off nicely!

So it was pretty much lounging around and having waterfights! The kids all had a great time - amazing, forget the fancy toys - give them water & a container, and they'll figure something out!

Not quite sure what they were doing here, but it made for some whacky shots!

We headed over to Centre Island late afternoon - with the pups of course! They really enjoyed the ferry ride and all the attention!

Always a bustling scene at Queen's Quay - street musicians, vendors, crowds of people….

d664d6a9.jpg

Entrance to the ferry docks. Yes, that is a guy with a deer head on his back… They were going to shoot a film - it sounded pretty wild!

ca789fda.jpg

Great ride over.

There used to be many private residences on the island, along with a small community infrastructure. The properties were under a 99 year lease from the government, and most of them are now gone.

IThe island is well maintained, with a little amusement park, quiet coves for kayak schools, and the annual dragonboat races are held here.

bd2ab499.jpg

There's also a little petting farm, with rabbits, sheep, pigs, chickens. and….. Peacocks???

c14f64cc.jpg

We headed south, to the beaches, to chill out, & explore. Perfect for the kids!

c1318b3a.jpg

By the pier, caught the ambient light from a glorious sunset

Then went back to the ferry landing, and got my postcard shot for the day…
