I was lucky enough to have @Duke Mantee make me a belt before he closed up shop. I wanted something a bit simple, so went with a brown colour and an vintage buckle with a muted finish. Since it was a MTO belt and I had seen the skills which he makes his belts with, I decided to have an “A” detail made and placed on the belt so it would sit on my left hip. (My family’s names all start with A) I’ve been wearing it for a week or more and are really pleased!8 points

Most recent delivery. Late '45 601xx, I'll be waiting awhile to wash and wear these but it's tempting to throw 'em in the wash now... Obviously I'm a sucker for any and all Great Lakes Mfg. branded gear...6 points

Drying after first real machine wash. Couple washes to this point but all done by hand. Probably no more of that. First photo is probably most accurate color. No real combs but signs of a little fraying on back of the knee where the crease is, haha. Summer is coming and soon as it is hot will probably be washing these fairly often.5 points

Great! We drove down to Port Aransas last weekend for a day trip, probably the furthest stretch I've taken it on so far besides going to Houston to visit my wife's family. I still get some mild range anxiety whenever I'm having to rely solely on public charging, but now that I have a NACS adapter that's a bit less of a concern. I'd love to take it on a longer road trip but that's not so easy with the little one. Could definitely see myself sticking with electric going forward. Here's a photo dump. Been pretty busy lately hence the absence from posting, but outside of dad duties I landed a new (fully remote!) job. This was a huge boost for my mental health, I really started hating my old role. Only was there for a year but I can safely say it was the worst job I've ever had. New company flew me up to Philly last week, wasn't there long but really enjoyed it. Never visited before but seems like I'll be back every quarter so I look forward to exploring more of it. Had my mom in for mother's day, been playing a bunch of golf lately. Saw a cool kei truck and some black bellied whistling ducks, and of course I've had some pizza. I'll work on getting some photos dedicated photos of the jeans soon, really enjoying them!4 points

Very glad you are happy with it @Well27 … I can see the leather develop a little - there’s an early stage where the tannery finish on the belt and the edge finish I apply start to dry and break. This is a good thing, the leather will start to ease and absorb oils and grease and dirt from wear and handling, then you’ll see the patina develop and the whole thing will become smoother and softer. Don’t baby the belt (don’t go easy) and don’t worry much about conditioning and the like - it really won’t need it for a very long time3 points

I appreciate the responses. I’ve liked the look of the N1s for a bit now, but this one might be best to admire from a distance. If I’m out in the cold for any duration I’m typically doing something active and the layering approach works just fine. I could see a reason for it at a sporting event or something minimally active. Not in a rush and wanted to see how other people liked or didn’t like them.3 points

The other day, I saw a post no bills sign at a construction site and it brought up a memory I had long forgotten, which, now that I think about it, is kinda funny. When I was a kid, I didn't grow up with huge amounts of money but also, was just a kid so having one pair of jeans, one pair of shoes, one hat, was normal to me. You wear out your shoes, you replace them. Wear them out. Rinse and repeat. Well, PNB Nation (Post No Bills) was a hip-hop company—that did raw denim (I now realize). I picked up a pair as I needed a new pair, they were on sale and I wasn't overly fussy. Anyways, it is funny to me that after a good few years of wearing them, I now know that I was into raw denim before I realised I was into raw denim. I distinctly remember my mom telling me that it was time for a new pair but I told her they were just starting to look good, the thighs were white and had holes in the knees and wallet fade and everything. They were black denim too. I didn't know why they looked good, in the sense of raw denim but I knew they looked good. I recently looked up on eBay to see if there were any still around and low and behold...Brought back so many memories, I distinctly remember the inside waistband graphic, and the stash pocket and "hammer" loop.3 points

I have saved the best for last. Probably my favorite t shirt of all time. I only visited the local Santa Fe Speedway in Willow Springs only once or twice to watch the demolition derby before it closed down but those memories live large in my mind. Perfect graphics, faded but legible, on a super thin single stich 50/50 Made in USA Screen Stars tee. Every new find is judged against this one. Earlier this year I found a local making reprints on plain white so I grabbed one.3 points

Another two sided beauty in my favorite non black color. Vintage 1970s "A bad Day at Lake Whippoorwill Speedway" T shirt. More lightly cracked ink, multiple fonts, simple graphics, and a clever tagline make this another perfect example of the race day tee. Tag is faded but it looks like maybe another Velva Sheen, probably size small and definitely 50/50 poly/cotton.3 points

I have an older FW deck jacket that’s more of a ‘what if’ than a repro model (same as This one). Its lighter oz duck canvas rather than deck cloth and no interlining that the FW N-1s have so not quite as warm and I’ve gotten a lot of use out of it. Definitely not gathering dust. Sure it isn’t the last word in breathability but it’s fine. If I was that worried about fabric performance I probably wouldn’t wear denim all day 😄 My only gripe with it is it’s been more prone to stitching breakdown than my other FW stuff. I never owned one but suspect tanker jackets with the melton lining rather than deck jacket alpaca are probably more year round usable too.2 points

They’re not a warm jacket tho.. in fact, they make you feel quite cold and a bit clammy, hence why folks used to wear those thick knitted sweaters underneath.. ideal for Autumn here in the UK. 15 or so years ago, I had a Barbour, a Belstaff and a Mulholland.. then Barbour went through a massive revival here in the UK.. you would see entire families of Barbour wearers walking through the park.. mum, dad, kids.. all wearing Barbour, often with Hunter wellies.. invariably with a Labrador who would also wearing a Barbour doggy coat.. like Madonna and Guy Richey trying way too hard to be British.. the terraces were full of it which was the final nail in the coffin for me so I sold the lot.. now it’s just folks trying to project the country look like Farage or diehard sloanies.2 points

One of my very favorite finds ever and perhaps one of the most historically significant. 1980s People Power Unarmed Forces of the Philippines T shirt. The People Power Revolution, also known as the EDSA Revolution or the February Revolution, were a series of popular demonstrations in the Philippines mostly in Metro Manila, from February 22 to 25, 1986. There was a sustained campaign of civil resistance against regime violence and electoral fraud. The nonviolent revolution led to the departure of Ferdinand Marcos, the end of his 20-year dictatorship and the restoration of democracy in the Philippines. Just a reminder that sustained non violent protest and strikes are some of the only actions that have ever toppled an authoritarian regime.2 points

Wore my FW N-1 when we were in London and Paris in ‘23-‘24, got completely drenched on a day trip to Oxford and it held up just fine. There are definitely other materials that are better designed for the rain, but I didn’t have any issues. I just let the jacket dry out overnight at the hotel and I was good to go the next day. Mine doesn’t get a ton of extended use since I live in a warm climate but I enjoy wearing it when I can.1 point

Been busy this weekend working on the bathroom. Never hung drywall before, but turns out it ain't too bad in these small sections to do as a one man operation. Had to put in some studs for the drywall to hold onto, and had to get creative with this one by the drain pipe by segmenting it. Another hurdle was getting the ceiling to sit flush with the original plaster. The walls and ceilings in this place are about (key word is "about") 1" thick with the rock lath and plaster, so I had to use something to shim out the 1/2" drywall. Tried to cut strips of some 1/2" plywood I found in the garage, but it was too thick, so I ended up using pieces of lath which did the trick and cost next to nothing. And here's the rest of the walls all done. Once the drywall is mudded and floor is in it'll be time to trim in some places and then paint (or wallpaper, haven't decided yet). Decided that instead of trying to match the blue tile we'll just paint the new walls and I'll cut some trim for the transition from tile to no tile. Going to put some shelves and a vanity in this spot eventually.1 point
