Checking in with pre/post and initial thoughts. I really like these jeans and cut. The roping is top notch. I’m still tripping out on the denim pockets bags It’s a weird feeling, but will only get better with wear. I didn’t get as much shrink in the waist as I wanted with the first wash, so I ran them through again as well as a trip through the dryer. Think we’re fully shrunk now - waist snug, but has loosened to what I was wanting and inseam hit requested post-shrink exactly. I ended up with some marbling with the initial soak/wash/hang dry that was probably intensified with the second wash/dryer. My typical machine wash/dry usually doesn’t marble like this, but it did this time. No worries - I’m choosing to see the squiggles as ‘freshly grated mozzarella’ for my pizza pants. My 311s arrived the day after I left the country for a few days so I didn't get them till Tuesday. Soaked and then washed at 30 degrees on Wednesday. Raw fit in first pic, post-wash in second (obviously). Fit is slightly slimmer than I anticipated in the leg but not too slim (I hope - thighs might get bigger again once I get over my patellar tendinitis). And I bought them to be a slim pair anyway. I think the waist will be spot on. If it stretches further than I'd like it won't matter too much cos I also went for a shortish inseam. Long term I see these as jeans for the summer.17 points

Apologies in advance for the crappy pictures, my lighting isn't so good and the sun isn't as plentiful as it was in LA . I got these last Wednesday and was really impressed with the little details, mainly the patch and the Pizza red tab. I was initially worried that they would be too small post soak, however, they ended up fitting pretty nicely! They were given a soak and were then machine dried (couldn't wait on the air dry) to avoid any further shrinkage. Simo really got all the post soak shrinkage right, especailly with the inseam! I'll try to post more pictures as I get more wear in, I just tend to forget to take pictures 😅 Patch got pretty faded post wash.17 points

You and me both. They feel super wide for the first few hours then I'm like.. oh - this feels great. Whenever I wear anything other than my 0105SSW, they all feel so tight and rigid by comparison. Overnight I saw that Cultizm had an extra 15% off sale items so just picked up some 1101SSW for a mere $167(!) as well because the Super Smooth fabric is great for SoCal and so comfortable. Think they may replace current daily Warehouse's as this fabric is just magic.5 points

Regarding Japanese heritage denim brands, I'd say the narrow focus on WW2 era Levis is a recent phenomenon. When I first saw Sugar Cane & others in Japan in the mid 1990s, it was a more diverse array of styles, some repro, some their own spin on old styles. I have a Full Count catalogue somewhere that offered jeans & other denim items with white stitching, and some Levis style pieces in chino twill type fabric. It was all very cool. I scanned & shared it on Denimbro a while back. If I can find the files I'll share here.3 points

@julian-wolf I read his post as $50 shipping on top of ~$40 USD for the magazine… so… even with shipping (and tax depending on where he’s located), he’d still be coming out on top if he bought through the link I provided…2 points

That’s awesome, do share it if you feel like. thank you. She is mostly breastfed, so I do get a decent 5 hour sleep usually, not taking extreme nights into account.2 points

My comments were probably more tongue-in-cheek that I managed to communicate there in written form, as someone who is skeptical of the notion of "progress" in all sorts of different contexts, I don't think we really need totally new concepts from denim brands. But I guess I would like to see interesting ideas in enthusiast jeans beyond crazy fabrics or hyper-specific repros, whatever form that might end up taking. I do like the idea of incorporating subtle design/sewing/construction aspects into jeans inspired by the quirks of WWII pairs, for instance, though I'm sure I'm not the first to have this idea.2 points

This lovely Ooe x Sunny Garden pre-war chore jacket landed yesterday (along with a few other items, it was a nice and busy day for post down my way 😉... a few more to come soon and then the intent is no denim buy for many years... honest gov) Same pattern as the Railroad jackets Ooe did a few years ago i.e. "design is based on an old pre-war Chore Jacket; from the front, the sleeves are set-in sleeves; from the back, the raglan sleeves are split sleeves; A-line silhouette pattern with narrow shoulders and seamless hem, a fitting specific to a vintage jacket". It's in the Amoskeag repro denim, the same as the vest, I mean Sleeveless Outing Coat. Great jacket... I can see me wearing this a lot...2 points

Very very frigid today so I'm bunded up inside. It's 0°f/ -17c outside right now and Hell has actually frozen over in the United States. To those of you living in other parts of the world, please keep a close eye on us. Things are about to get downright sketchy. Multiple friends working in or for multiple three letter agencies have privately cautioned to keep our eyes and ears open. Stay safe Sufu. Bump on all the free stuff up thread. At this point I'd just give it away and make a donation to charity myself. Moved back to civilization so am in LA if anyone is around there who wants free shit.1 point

@Cold Summer I’ve only been in this “scene” for about a decade, but from what I read it’s seems like the Japanese have been doing the wwii reproduction and Americana reproductions for more than 4 decades now. While progress might happen, I still think the usual suspects of the repro world are going to be iterated to eternity (at least, relative to a persons lifetime) for the sake of tradition.1 point

I thought I read somewhere that there are no side seams, just the seam down the back. Could that be it and just lost in translation?1 point

I have changed my tune since this series of posts almost (gulp) five years ago, I've really fallen in love with the WWII jeans, not necessarily because I've become super invested in vintage denim, though I surely have a greater appreciation than before for nicely-aged vintage jeans. It's probably more because of the vibes, these wonky WWII-era jeans are weird and I find this fun and compelling, moreso than gimmicky over-engineered slubmaster denim. Also, somewhat to my surprise, I have found that at least some variations of the WWII fit work quite well on me. Seeing WH, Sugar Cane, and TCB try to tackle the task of reproducing obscure and rare permutations of particular jeans is also rather fascinating. I do think these are often past the point of diminishing returns for me, but the price-to-quirkiness ratio of the TCB Late S40s is right on point... hence, why I just bought a pair. I have to think that within a year or two Sugar Cane will have made a Super Denim Collectible for every obscure variation of 1940s 501xx, which raises the question: where do we go from there? "Reproductions" of fictitious World War Three jeans with ever stranger and wonkier features? Again, I'd take it over neon pink weft slublord 28 oz denim. Will we eventually spend $1000 for Japanese jeans that look like they were sewn by Pablo Picasso on acid? I suppose only time will tell.1 point

Hi all, For those that don't know me, I spent the last 3.5 years or so working at Son of a Stag/Soldier blue in London, UK. If any of you had any repairs done by them during that period, it's very likely to have done by me. I've now left SoaS and have moved down to the Kent coast where I'm going to spend more time making bags and leather accessories (wallets, keyrings & the like) I'm also set up to take on jeans repairs. So, if any of you want anything done, please do get In touch. Will be very happy to give you a price. Below are a couple of before and afters I did. Sadly l can't justify the cost of a chain stitcher so I unable to offer shortening. Apologies for the blatant promotional post 🙂 Martin1 point

My girlfriend got me the Flat Head FN-OJ-D102 blanket lined jacket while we were in Japan. I previously had the Momotaro x Okayama Denim "Frost" type II blanket lined jacket and never liked how it fit. I put this one on in the Jingumae shop and fell in love, fits absolutely perfect. I've been wearing it almost every day since November, its been nice since we've had a dry & cold winter in the Pacific Northwest. Only gripe is no side pockets but I can get over that, I've been wearing gloves instead1 point
