I think I paid about $200 for my first pair a few years ago and about $300 for my 2nd Pair two years. how are those "FDR" ? I don't get the connection. FDR was dead long before plastic frames like that were out.?

I'm pretty sure these were just bought on Canal St. and they look just like bootleg wayfarers, but i like the fact that the lens is squarer and not as horizontal, also the bridge is lower.

If anyone knows a good pair to look for that are pretty much exactly like these i will be much appreciated. I could do the 5$ thing, but i would like UV protection.

These were named to Esquire Magazine's Best 25 Sunglasses of 2012 but obviously they are vintage reproduction inspired sunspectacles. Lots of color choices too.

Anyway, here's what I have on today... I've posted all my vintage ones now, so we move on to Japanese repro. These are by a brand called Yanagi Gawa Ichiro, and I think they're made in Japan, altough it might be Hong Kong.

 

Hi! I've been trying to know about this brand - and sadly Yanagigawa Ichiro seems a pseudo-Japanese brand by Chinese. I've read their website (in Japanese) and the texts sounded awful - just like translated by Google or Bing translation and there's a lot of typos in their web pages - FYI.

 

I'm into nice glasses but unfortunately my eye sights are still good - I sometime use the pair for distance when I drive or go to any museums or galleries to see properly and need to use my reading glasses when I read (obviously!), but otherwise I can see without them most of the time. So I always go for cheaper options like Jins and Zoff in Japan.

I've just found this thread, and was interested in William's comments about his grandma's old tortoiseshell frames. The trade in this was banned by the CITES treaty in 1973. A few companies have stockpiles that they acquired before this date. Maison Bonnet still produce bespoke frames using tortoiseshell, and I'd love to have a look around their operation.

This pair, which I found in Amsterdam at Fred Stoeltie a few weeks ago has a shell facing on a buffalo horn frame.

William's pair might still be usable with a bit of light refurbishment. If horn is cared for then it will pretty much last forever. I suspect shell is the same.

The Eyewear Concierge in London has a few pairs of refurbished, new old stock vintage horn frames. I'm very tempted by this 1980s pair that I believe were made in Japan.

I've finally managed to track down a replacement for my lost RB Caribbean..

These are c1963 in ebony with replacement G15 (green/grey) 15% LTF mineral glass lenses

 

 

 

 

 

 

Nice that the lettering is still gold.. it's often worn away

 

The hinges are mint! .. tight and free from corrosion

..by 1966 RB decided that women could wear the same style.. pfft! ikr whatever next!?

 

..you can still easily buy vintage G15 mineral glass (i think they're all poly nowadays) lenses for £60 from ebay  i'm not sure when these date from.. i would guess at the 2000s but they have the dodgy Ray-Ban branding which i would rather avoid...
