^^i hope ur sizing correctly on those. i would definitely go one size up. i made the same mistake. im a size 28 in most jeans and i also have a pair of the s003jp that i bought from big back from summer. these jeans dont stretch the least bit and also shrink a shtload.

How much are you saying the S003jp shrink. I am looking for a size 30. If they shrink an inch in the waist a 30 will be perfect. I ask BIG when they were getting the new lot in and he said the middle of December.

oh they're getting more s003jp's in? i'll just wait

also @ialex

as for the sizing...my perfect size is unwashed Skull 5010xx 6x6's size 28s. so should i size up for s003jps? cuz i'll have to soak them i guess

i also wear a 28 in my skulls, and i must say that my size 28 s003jp were unbearable at waist after soak and thighs. i still wore them for about a month and half, but there was no sign of stretching... so i couldnt take it anymore lol and now they just chill there. shrinkage is normal, but these are weaved so tight. i think after a wash they would be impossible to wear if u get tts

Hi all,

Which of the Japanese shops (specifically in Tokyo) would be best to visit for the widest selection of Samurai Jeans to choose from? I also would like to know which fit would be best for me. I mainly like the cut of traditional Levi`s 501`s STF‘s (not the skinny`s) before washing.

Any help would be appreciated.

Also, if there might be any stores in Kyoto, I`m currently there and can hit them up.

Thanks.

Dude, just hot rinse them in the machine if you're after a markedly different fit but they look aiight now. Samurais - like most STF Japanese (especially heavier) denims - will shrink over the next few washes; and almost as much after the 1st wash as between raw and your soak so you might as well get more shrinkage out of the way.

I would say take a look into the S0510 and S0500 cut

and about your shopping question I'll give you a quote from some months ago:

"Where not to buy Samurai in Tokyo?"

Just check the denim shops in Tokyo thread and you will find plenty of shops

Thanks for the model suggestions. Guess I'm off to find Tokyo denim spots thread.

Checkin' in after reading this entire thread... took a few days (weeks?) but hey what better to do than get schooled in the way of the Samurai.

I am looking for a slightly more tapered alternative to Momotaro 0201s but with a higher rise than the Momotaro 0701 offers, and the S710XX caught my eye. Would like to end up post wash with 18.5" (37) waist, no more than 2" shrinkage in the inseam (38) and at least 13.5" thighs.

I think I'm kind of between sizes, would I go tagged size 36 or 38?

I will probably wash lukewarm/cold and never hot wash these to preserve the inseam so I'm thinking 36. My only concern is that my 0201s have 14" thighs that are already pretty slim, so 710s might not be for me. However I kind of need the extra 1.5" inseam length vs. the 0500s to account for shrinkage.

Thanks to everyone who contributes to this thread, it's a great resource. I hope to contribute myself and post pics in the future.

how can I not help you after you admit to reading through the entire thread.

Based on your desired postwash measurements and washing technique you can probably swing a 36 but it will be tight for a minute. With tension the 36 will stretch back in the waist to a 37" maybe 37.5 long term but post soak/wash will likely be 36. The thighs on a 36 start at 13.5 so expect them to shrink down to somewhere between 13 and 13.25. Again, tension will bring them back out to near-raw or beyond over time.

As for preserving the inseam, I hotwash the shit out of my sammies and just make sure to stretch the inseam back out while damp by hanging a weight on them as they dry (my technique is to attach those suit-hangars with pants clips/bar to the hem while the jeans hang by the waistband (with another hangar) and stick a 5lb weight on it).

If I were you, I would either buy 36 and stick something in the waist during cold soaks/washes to prevent too much waist shrink, OR buy 38 and hotwash 2 times before wearing. In either case, stretch the inseams back out.

One more note: uncomfortably tight jeans rarely get the long-term use that creates amazing evolutions.

through my experience, i'd say that the dryer did less in terms of shrinking than an inside-out, hot wash did.

drying seemed to soften them up way too quickly, and took away from the stiff, rigidness of the denim.

i can say that the fit will certainly change, and you'll be glad they were a tad looser in the beginnig, they will shrink literally every wash from here on.

i have a 36 in the 710xx, true waist is about a 35. in the beginning they seemed too big everywhere and i almost sold them. glad i didn't, because 8 months and 3 washes later they're perfect.
