i have a question for DR. HEECH. i have an original one-soak 101lj size 46 reg. that looks identical to your 1960 model. this was my 4th storm rider. i kept trading up so to speak, going for earlier and better condition. what drew me in on this one is the blanket lining. it's kind of a plumb/black with maroon, bright blue, yellow stripes. very different from the gray, blue, gold you usually see. it appears to me your 1960 101lj has this same lining. i should add my jacket has r only on the pocket ribbon and neck tag and also something like sanforized shrunk lining (going from memory) on the neck tag my other did not have this text. my questions are 1 )can you tell me anything about this different colored lining and 2) do you have an idea of the vintage? i know having handled and owned several it is an earlier one, i always suspected right after the black/gold neck label probably when they first went to the cowboy picture label. any thought???? thank you in advance.

Thanks for the comments and kudos, lads...Better weather today, so at the risk of shitting up this thread with more pics I thought I'd share again, also with a pic of the fit and the patch...

(And no, I have no idea why I'm looking so bloody moody in the fit pic, sorry for those of you who are eating!)

Great looking jeans CTB.

Miy 1930 101B are coming up on 6 months. I will post pics after their first machine wash. I love 'em and will definitely be buying more Lee Japan. They may be less "authentic" than LVC but I like the detailing and construction a little more.

I don't think they're less "authentic." LVC seem to have imprived their game recently but some of the Edwin-made product is every bit as good, and better than some.

(But what does authetnic mean? My nipper's 60s 302 just popped a rivet, the stitching is all over the place and the denim has shown no sign of any wear whatsoever)

I think just the opposite. Both Edwin made Lee's and Real McCoy's Lee reproductions are for the most part more faithful to the original Lee's than LVC is to original Levi's. From the all-cotton stitching, patterns, hardware, fit and how they break in, they're about as close as you can get to original Lee's. Countless times I've had vintage collectors mistake my '44 and '36 Edwin Lee's for originals.

I sized down two on mine, they're a 30 compared to my then waist of 32. Not sure how the other models size, but this seems to be pretty standard for the Edwin-made Lee Japan models.

The Warehouse Lee repros also seem to be pretty oversized looking at their raw dimensions...

Mmmm..

Disappointing to see how this 101LJ has a repro lining from the mid-late sixties, but the neck label and pocket tag are from the mid-fifties(?)

Cant see the inside waistband (hemmed with shirt weight material?) which was a pre-'58 detail.

Thanks for posting Fardin!

Hi Colgems1966, sorry somehow missed a few pages and didn't see this before, nice to have another stormrider fan on this thread. I too have constantly have upgraded in condition and age probably costing me a small fortune in the process.

1) Lining-wise.

Up to c1958

sufu101LJ008.jpg

c.59-60

introduction of two consecutive patterns ( both types seen with other earlier labels)

sufu101LJ005.jpg

(like yours?) and..

009.jpg

Comparison...

011-1.jpg

Then 1965/6 - The lining, along with labels changed (look at the 101LJ's lining in Fardins last post/link. The linings faded quicker too.)

So as a guess, this would at least put your jacket in the early sixties.

Hope this helps.

To tell from the neck label.

The first Storm Rider label appeared around 1957. Before that they were the small Red/black/gold ones, which just had the 101LJ lot

On a white 'stormrider' label, the earliest type I have seen is like the close-up of mine (sz34) but with the word 'Lee' as three seperate letters (i.e. not joined).

Sounds like you got a steal. Can you post some pics?
