twice in a row...ridiculous. as in ridicule. you're not diculousing all over again.

who's spending $270 on aldens? want to cop

there was a post a ways back:

For those of you who don't use toothbrushes made with gold plaited fibers, heres a good price on the standard Indies. Cheapest on the market. 270$ plus 11$ shipping. He ships internationally, shipping varies from 15-25$. Heres the place: Giesche Shoes of Geneva, located in Geneva Illinois They stock D width, but any size can be ordered. call and ask for bryan. (630) 232-2317 Hours he's at the store Tues., Wed., Fri., and Sat. 9:30AM to 5:30 PM CST. Thursdays 12-8 PM CST This guy's specialty is the Indy Boot. He's been wearing them for 10+ years himself. Heres his collection! If you buy from him, be sure to let him know, Adam Ouellette directed you. HIS SERVICE IS AMAZING! He's also thinking about doing a Cigar shell cordovan run soon. As far as the dark color on that pair I posted, he treated them regularly with pecard leather dressing. That is what gives them that dark color. Heres another shoe with the same treatment. IMG_1383.jpg Don't forget to visit the ever popular Indy boot "porn" gallery. It took me a helluva long time to make it... http://s32.photobucket.com/albums/d7/AldenShoes/?start=60 :D

Giesche Shoes in Geneva? Are you serious?

This is just down the street from my house. I run The Pure Gardener Just across the street from it. I didn't know they had Alden's. Now I'll be going in in just a few days for sizing and ordering.

Thanks for the tip!

Well with the shocking exchange rate and no tax for you lot in the USA, I think now is the best time to buy trickers. I think it would probably end up somewhere around $600 but this is a guess

Edit it's £350 which without tax must be about $450 for you guys now. Pretty cheap for custom boots!

Wow,

you are so right.

I had no idea how crappy the exchange rate was for GBP right now.

I was going off the old rule I used to have which was just doubling it

the GBP price.

A pair of stow is only about 325!

Are tickers only standard width?

wow. whiteshark, thanks for the information. you may not be an awesome speller but you are an awesome alden-indy-boot-for-cheap finder, and that's more important in my book :) i'll be getting those in a month or two after i recover from all the hardcore spending i've been doing lately, and i'll definitely mention your name. maybe if you get enough people dropping your name, you'll get some mad discounts on those cigar shells.

I think the service that Trickers offers for that price is only to make-up a boot using their standard last (for that model), using whatever leather (or combination of leathers) that you choose. It's not what I'd understand to be 'true' custom - where the shoe is made to on a bespoke last. That service is £850 - which is going to hurt whatever the exchange rate. But I might be understanding 'custom' differently...

Good info, thanks man. Unfortunately the standard width in stows is no good for me, it's the way the tongue is folded and stitched into the shoe that digs right in to me. I can always size up a half though I suppose.

aren't cats paws discontinued? is there still a way to get some? How much would it cost to have a regular pair of Indies changed to single leather sole with front and heel cats paws? its kind of my dream boot! I believe Mich bought a similar pair from a forum member here? Mich, am i right about this?

After some looking around i found out the leather sole-cat's paws-job on my Indies was done by Eddies shoe repair, 13716 Ventura blvd, Sherman Oaks California, i believe the shop is well known by some here.

I think it'll be virtually impossible to find a cobbler here on the European mainland that would even understand what you mean, let alone getting the job done exactly like you have in mind.

Why not go custom Malton then? I looked into that before I picked up my Stows but wasn't sure if it was worth the extra 150 or so for a wider width that I "might" not need (although my Stows were a little tight in the toebox initially they have thankfully stretched out to a comfortable after about a week). But when I talked to them it seemed like they could do the Malton in about any leather for a custom pair (I was looking into black at the time).

I would like to know how he gets them for so cheap, just a curiosity. regardless he will continue to be my source for alden shoes ( unless there is some horrifying reason he gets them so cheap ).

lol,

no there's no sketchy reason.

When alden raises the MSRP of one of their boots on their online store, most other shops will follow suit, in an attempt to rake in more cash. They go against that. The shoes still cost them just as much as a before.

I didn't know maltons are wider!?

Thought these might be appropriate for this thread:

nice boots!

when were those zippers put in? they look very new..

Yeah, I had new zippers put in because the old ones broke (they are a dark brown that matches the boot pretty well though they look black in the pic).

WhiteShark: Actually, the zips are what I like about them...reminds me of Rick Owens combat boots.

I look like shit in boots. Anyone have any ideas for a semi-traditional lace up dress shoe. Preferably in the 2-400 range? However, I've been checking out J.M Weston shoes a little.

yeah, thats what I fear as well. Vibram soles are apparantly not a problem though.

Whiteshark; amazing shoe porn! I especially wonder how those black Indies age. Does anyone have those?
