Levi's Vintage Clothing

Absolutely. I totally agree. If someone asks my opinion on works best as far as fades goes I'm certainly going to share my experience and whats worked best for me.

This is the statement I was responding to

"but trying to say that wearing them raw is "the right way" or "the old school way" of doing things is just plain WRONG"

It depends on how old school you want to get. Theres as many ways to break in a pair of jeans as there are people wearing them. My experience and it seem to be what the folks that even make them recommend soak/wash as little as possible especially in the beginning.

You want to wash them a couple time a week rock on but don't be surprised if you don't get great whiskers and combs. If thats cool with you, rock on...

ummm, i think we're both saying the exact same thing.

offering opinions and experience = ok

saying that your way is the right way = not ok

and everyone always talks about those "miner fades." well, guess what? those jeans look that way because they were WORN BY MINERS. their appearance has probably 10% to do with how they were washed and 90% to do with how they were worn. six months in a mine without a wash would have been ludicrous. like, gangrene ludicrous.

wash your jeans when they're dirty. not before. not after. 1 month for some. 1 year for others.

i suggest soaking unsanforized and wearing sanforized raw. this is not the only way, but it's worked for me.

Hey, new to posting, sorry...

Wanted to say that I work in a laundry developing new washes for major brands and recreating vintage washes for me and my friends on the side. My boss and I are very into realstic washes and make sure that everything we do is as natural as possible.... we wear raw to work everyday to compare natural vs man made and are always looking for ways to recreate those "miner" washes everyone is in to! We are alwasy looking at the "raw" blogs to see who is lying about there "natural" wear..

Anyway, just wanted to see if anyone was intreested in having a personal wash done for them, we can recreate almost anything you like and make it a little more personal, and in some cases better than vintage... I am really interested in doing some work on the side because I am sure i will make a few people's new favorite jean!!!! Well make your raw look however you want, 6 days, 6 weeks, or even 160 years old!!! I am posting here because I know LVC has some of the best denim for recreating vintage washes (plus its my fav) but any raw denim is good, my PRPS raw is amazing!!!! But anyway, please email me if at all interested or even have a question reffering to wearing your jeans in better!!!! I promise I know a little bit of what I am talking about, and am just as much a denim head as all of you....

Thanks!!!!!

I could be wrong, but I seriously doubt that any one here would be interested in having their raw jeans "aged".

The whole point of this thread is LVC's and wearing then to perfection, not washing them to a look that looks like you wore them. In fact, most people here don't even wash their jeans for the first 6 months... And then they barely touch water for the remainder of their lives.

Maybe SF would be a better group to solicit work...?

Thats ok, and im not a prostitue... Just trying to see if anyone is interested in getting someting a litlle more out of thier jeans, as for oooooh i wore them in from raw, one day youll get too old for that, and i know for a fact that a lot of these people have way too many raw pairs to ever wear them properly, not being rude at all, but a true denim head would be very interested.... plus i am offering pure information also, as i am sure there are people who have questions about easier wear and propper wear not that i know everything at all, just a little bit more than most.... always learning in this industry

While I don't want to discredit your work washboy, I feel that most people here on sufu are more about the actual journey itself when it comes to raw denim...No matter how "real" a wash can get, a part of me will always know that I didn't put in the actual wear...but to each his own! It sure would be cool to try out at least once...but you won't catch me doing this anytime soon (unless someone wanted to donate free denim...anyone??? ;)) And your points are valid...so much denim, so little time!

I appreciate the kindness! To tell you the truth I wear raw 6 days a week, but one at a time..... just curious... If you guys ever have a question, let me know... I have a lot of friends that worked for levis and LVC in perticular, and while i dont know every detail of the 33, or the 47, or the 1901, i know a little and can find out from very credible sources....

You should post some of your accomplishments. Maybe some before and after pics. That would be interesting. I do know that some folks "help" their jeans along, with a little hand rub there, an "accidental" scrape here, a little wash cloth to the honeycomb over there, etc, etc.

on the new 1915s...Has else anyone tried clipping the bar across the prongs on the cinch buckle? I did and it appears as if the prongs are not connected to each other on the other end. It just seems really flimsy, that it could come apart where the fabric attaches to it.

Yeah I've already replaced mine. They got the buckle right as far as not that pressed metal but its not one solid peice under the material of the belt. I have NO IDEA what LVC was think'n. They were THAT CLOSE.

I actually used an OLD early 1900s original buckle a good friend gave me but there are several places that sell buckles that work great.

Heres an original not from Levis but probably very close to what would have been on a 1915 501.

No problem. On bucklebacks with not belt loops bsing able to cinch the jeans is very important. I wear suspeders with mine often but sometimes especially after they're broken in I like to just cinch'm up and it the buckles sucks its tough. If Levis is reading any of this PLEASE straighten out the buckles on your LVCs. You are so close. The only thing I see wrong with this new generation buckle is the split in the metal under the belt part. Make that a solid peice and your there.

dr house

great fit, did you size down on those? my pair of 44's fits a lot more baggy in the ass area and wider at the legs.

Due to the fact that those 44's are huuuuge I was going for my real size + 2 inches in the length (32 x 34"). Measured size of the tagged 32" was 34". After a hot soak (pure water) they're shrinked as promised: 2 sizes in the waist and two sizes in the length, final result 32 x 32", my true size. Ah, and a bit of overall shrinking.

Now they're a comfy, classic straight cut, like a Nudie Straight Sven e.g.

I'm very happy with the result, they've stretched a bit back, but not too much. Fine pair.
