Levi's Vintage Clothing

Recommended Posts

I own a 1873 myself ( bought a size to large,stupid me ).

Yeah, me too. I bought the natural indigo version and ruined the finish trying to shrink them.

The natual indigo versio of these is lovely, altho the historic detailing is not correct... you will have to wear them damn hard.

I would lvoe to see Levi's do a good, naural indigo version of the XX (the real 1873 jean) or the Oldest Oldest.

I promised pics of these a couple of months ago, but finally got around to taking them. And I figured I'd take a couple as they are quite the special pair of overalls!

Have yet to wear them, got them on sale and they only had a 34/34 left, which is lenghtwise stretching it a bit for me, taking shrinkage into account, will probably only quickly soak them in lukewarm water and am guessing they'll end up quite full and short, but it's sort of the fit I'm after with these kind of jeans anyway.

I think these are the closest you'll get to a "factoryproduced, homemade jean"...

Onto the pics: (Paul, please use them wherever you see fit)

Nice,Cotton, havent seen so much details on the 1880 before.I just wonder why they are so roughly made, given that 1873 is older and finished cleaner.Would really love to pull a 4 pocket jean off,but somehow it looks awkward when I wear my 1873.I think they would look much better if they are really worn and abused, but I just cannot mind spending 2 years in a pair where I dont feel comfortable in..

Knappave was where they found them. The originals were cutoffs I believe. These are the same as the Nevada jeans.

These jeans are earleri than the '1873' which is more like an 1885 model.

Cotton, if they get too short, let me know...

Almost nice, know what u mean about the 1873.. with my 1896, I plan to wear them in the summer only, with sandals, and wash them in around four years. It's working so far with my 1901s...

IMO a 4 pocketjeans looks a lot better when its well worn, faded and repaired. Its the missing backpocket that looks strange to me on a raw pair, but maybe I spend too much time in front of a mirror... I also use my 1901 for summer, but they got one more backpocket and I sized them right.

do they even make leather tags?[/quote

that 501 is legit, with leather tags and selvedge too. they called that washed "varnish" and the other one is "worn out". it fits like 47 with slightly low rise.

great jean for the price.

Has anyone done the Levi's 1917 501 JEAN RIGID? I just got mine in the mail and I am on the fence. i may send mine back and go with the 47. I got my normal waist size knowing i was going to shrink them down but should i have gotten a size down?

does anyone have measurements of before and after soak/shrink?

why do you wanna switch to the 47? everyones got a pair of 47s(they are great though), and I dont think anyone has the 1917s (on this forum).

I say if you think theyre gonna fit you, keep them. but that may just be because I wanna see some fit pics and some sweet wear.

if you're going to send them back, take pictures first.

haha, do most jeans after soaked and shrunk keep the same ratio?

i have to admit the 1917s are a pretty wide leg and the rise is very very high.

Shrinkage on LVC is not consistant, they can shrink to tagsize or sometimes do not shrink at all.On my pre-1930 models -1873,1901 and 1920 ,the inseam lost 1-1,5",the waist stayed as tagged.

well right now they look very "thug" on me. i think they may have to go back. i mean i don't need a skinny jean but i do want something that is a bit more form fitting.

with a front rise of 15 inches i doubt they will shrink enough, or have you noticed that the rise changes dramatically?

on the plus side i do really enjoy the color, the 9oz denim is nice, would be a great weight for summer, and the length is great for a 5 inch cuff at the bottom. and the cinch and suspender buttons are cool, VERY cool.

the down side is the legs are very wide and the rise is huge.
