^ I would be too. Machine washing at the raw state is risky since it's possible that they'll crease and fade during agitation.

That's why I hand "wash" my jeans when doing my initial soak - just gentle agitation to make sure all of the yarns are soaked to the core. I'll wait until the 2nd or even 3rd wash before I toss them into the washer, unless they're filthy dirty.
