Here is a one wash photo measurement of the 51 in size 34. I was told...'Waist area is also shrunk about 1cm after washing by yourself but the waist will stretch after wearing many times' - Seiichiro at Hoosiers

Measure your jeans like this and compare.

Then probably just end up buying a size 36 and living with the fact that they are tighter after a wash, and a tiny bit looser when worn a while.

One shop sharing 88cm in size 34 FW 601xx 1951, other shops sharing 85 or 85cm.

That's why I opened discusion of using Waist Measurement methods:

1. Relax Method (as shown above by Hoosier)

2. Flat Method (aka Measuring along the top edge)

Each of them gives different waist measurement, I prefer 2nd one, used by Okayama Denim, Denimio, Rivet and Hide, etc.

I also replied via PM.

2 Options:

W34 = stretch to fit
W36 = shrink to fit

Both can work, depends on the personal acceptance of discomfort or fear of a "loose fit"

I prefer stretch to fit , as my one wash Jeans (2 FC1108, 1 FC1109, 1 SugarCane , 1 Momotaro), which started as 86 or 87cm waist are now 91 or 92cm, I can easily wear them without belts even.

Also , my raw OA01-XX started as 91.5 cm, shrunk 5cm less and now stretch back again to raw position, wearable without belt.

My Warehouse 1001xx in raw as 94cm , shrunk and now stretched back, though my required waist is 91 or 92cm but I must wear belt with this pair as by sitting and working pressure applies , and these WH1001xx tend to reach to raw position , roughly to 94, beyond waist requirement.

So , in my opinion we must target Raw position even buying One Wash pair. Raw measurement is cap, within this tolerence limit , the waist is safe.

@dada mafiosi I have multiple pairs by all those you listed (aside from Momotaro) and from personal experience FW denim is not as stretchy as any of those mentioned.

I would definitely not use FC as a comparison as that denim (doesn’t matter which FC denim or weight we’re talking about) stretches far more easily and more than any other brand I’ve worn.

I can wear a 31” in FC, Warehouse, STF OOE, which will all stretch to 32” (and beyond), but I can’t wear a 31” in FW - sizing has to be my actual waist at 32”.

Interesting …

Every pair of FW denims I’ve owned (and that’s not a small amount) have stretched at least 1 inch through normal wear - some of the heavier used pairs will be nearly 2 inches … although those pairs are pretty much wrecked

^ Yeah, you have much more experience with FW than I do and a lot more time and  wear among various cuts / denim… no doubt about that… if I had questions around fit and asked your advice, I’d take it and get the size you’d recommend.

Of the pairs of FW denim I have (‘42, ‘47, ‘51), they’ve all stretched, but not nearly as fast as FC denim - in particular. FC denim - to me - is like putting on sweatpants and after a day can feel too loose. FW denim just seems a bit more stubborn, but will stretch as all denim does.

I’d also say that I prefer sizing to waist vs stretch-to-fit due to overall proportions and what I’m looking for (and out of - less contrast) in a pair of jeans.

I only say interesting because I’ve never owned Full Count

For those that have several pairs of FW, how did you size for the 1947?  I was told they run a little bigger so I'm wondering if I should size down 1?

I have both the S601xx and 1951 in size 32 and they fit great.

47s don’t run bigger

Hiya, would appreciate advice on an N-1 jacket sizing; looking at the red khaki one. I’ve had an N-1H from MF in size 40 for 5 years now, fits me pretty well, and it’s closest to size 42 from FW in measurements, but the FW one does seem to have a much thicker (and hopefully warmer too) lining, so I’m thinking maybe size 44 would be better…

Also if someone more well informed than myself knows if they’ll be re-releasing the Taildragger or something similarly fabulous sometime soon, I’d be down to wait for that

@Cocoa_Lapin I think I can chime in, I previously owned the Mister Freedom Blouson de Quart and replaced it with the Freewheelers N-1 last year.
I had both jackets in size 44 and I find the FW one fits a little smaller mainly due to the thicker pile lining, but the MF jacket was a bit too big to begin with.
I'm not sure I would go two sizes up from your MF jacket, I think 1 should likely be sufficient if you want a bit more room.
Even with the FW jacket feeling a little smaller I was able to comfortably layer sweatshirts / flannels underneath it.
Let me know if you want any measurements or have any other specific questions.

And while it's not the Taildragger, this should be out in the next couple of months.
I think it looks great but I'm on a jacket buying moratorium.

The '51 cut suits you well b_F, I swear one of these days I'll get around to trying out the core '47 and '51.
But it just gets more and more difficult when they keep releasing seasonal pairs. (collection previews from Komori-san's IG)

Ah, the latter half 1942s with the crotch rivet and the denim pocket bags.

'51 have become my favorite of any jeans I've owned since I got into this whole mess years ago. If I could only keep one pair it would be them.

I can see why!

I thought found this 'one' jeans before. But then sometimes tastes change. Or something else happened 😅

Edit: I'd like to add that also a body can change... :D

Ha, me too. But I didn’t feel like that about them when they were new - it took time. It’s a little nostalgic for me - they’re the closest fit to the jeans I wore for many years that - usually different skate brands that I found on bargain racks and I think maybe just the best general sort of cut for me. In this way they’re just the best version of the thing I’ve worn for most of my life whereas most repros are a little different. But, I still want to try the 47s! (Of course)

@indigoeagle kinda made my buying this pair. And I'm not even mad about it.

601XX 1951 in W34.
Same size as the 1947 I tried but wasn't so happy with the fit. These 1951 have a lower back rise and overall slimmer top block which I prefer (especially the lower rise).

With the upcoming Word of Mouth contest these will see less wear but they are also a reason I listed some of my too slim fitting Denime jeans (221, 224 and 66) for sale.

Great fit.  The 1951s I got recently are probably my favorite pair at the moment.  If they ever did a 1951 cut in the S601XX fabric that would be the perfect pair for me.

YMMV but I've never liked a denim more over time than the '51 denim. I think one reason I like it the most is it's been sort of the most subtly rewarding pair. It doesn't fade to electric blue, the beginning fades take awhile and are really hard to tell - the creases never set in too much, combs are not where this denim shines. But over time the fades come in and the puckering throughout is the best I've ever seen. Not to mention it is the most tough and durable denim I've had out of any repro pair - probably due to the same reasons it doesn't give great combs. It's tough but pliable. I have the other denim in my S516 jacket and I like it too, but it actually feels a little less unique to me. We'll see how I feel about it in jeans - mine are in storage and with the WOM contest coming up I think I won't even know until well into the latter half of this decade, if I can keep my size haha.
