  1. A celegration of FW’s pearl buttons, the best in the ‘verse. First are 2 versions of the diamond cracker. The first one is the older version of the 8oz denim one (the new version doesn't have pearl buttons), and the second one is a cool cotton / linen indigo oxford. Can't recall the names for #3-5 right now.

  5. "Ma Bell, got the ill communications Ma Bell, got the ill communications Ma Bell, got the ill communications" -The Beastie Boys Been after one of these for a minute. Scarce but not terribly rare MA BELL strike tee, 1971 In July of 1971 workers at Southern Bell (a part of AT&T) went on strike and countless t shirts, pins, flyers, patches etc were made in various designs. This would continue well into the 90s as workers kept pushing back against massive technological change. There would be later strikes (notably in 1983) so this tee could be a from a little more recent history but the single stitch sleeves and hem as well as the simple paper tag seem to confirm the early 70s. Just a reminder: fuck monopolistic greedy corporations and support your fellow worker. Class warfare is an ugly beast and we need more class unity. Too many working class folks are cheering for their own destruction these days.

  7. I’m shifting. I’ve always been shifting. But I shifted deeper in . There must be a more obscure brand, harder to get a few snobs know about. But not to snobbish. It was /is a fine line I balanced on( at least in my perspective) I guess it started at no buy 2019 I believe it was. That was easy when financial situation changed, I sold my engineers, and Mr freedom stuff. all I need is a white t shirt a good pair of jeans. now it’s time to buy a new pair of shorts, (rabbit hole) I stumbled upon service works. And blacksmith’s webshop Seems nice stuff and more in my nowadays financial reach. Looks like all the basics I like, but not so obscure . life is always shifting

  8. Very cool video but I would not pay $500 for a pair of Tilden jeans. The details just aren’t good in my opinion.

  9. It’s fine posting it here. I really enjoyed watching that and the Montana scenery is spectacular too. Tilden’s single needle sewing process with felled seams, etc looks the same as how Ande Whall used to make his jeans.

  16. Slightly off topic here but worth mentioning… Wasn’t there a lack of clarity surrounding the actual weight of selvedge denim? I understand this is based on the fact that denim and other fabrics are (or were) generally attributed weight by the square yard, ie 12oz was theoretically the weight of a square yard of denim (pre-wash). However, I’ve heard the quoted weights for early Levi’s jeans were based upon a yard of fabric length, which would only have been approx 30” wide (from a shuttle loom) and therefore less than a square yard and consequently lighter. This may be why some of the early pairs (late 18th/early 19th centuries) were (possibly mis-) quoted as 9-10oz, whereas in reality, miners would have required something heavier and more resilient, perhaps more akin to the 12oz denim of the 40s pairs. By this possible miscalculation, a 10oz yard of denim was only 5/6th of a square yard (36” x 30”) and would actually equate to a 12oz square yard. Hopefully someone with more knowledge can confirm or deny.

  24. Some detail snaps: Never had a cinch like this before. Already learned the hard way that it needs to be in use, else it'll stab you in the leg when putting them on... Some loose yarns on the inner fly: A few quick fit snaps: After a small amount of wear I'm pretty sure that I've picked the correct size. We're in a heatwave here in London at the moment so my first outing in them was a brief one to the shops... here are measurements after a couple hours: Waist 42cm Front rise 32cm Back rise 40.5cm Hem 24.5cm

  26. 1109xx Probably had these about 10yrs. Only ever worn in sporadic bursts, then shelved for a bit, then dusted off & brought back out... etc etc. I change the cuff size all the time too, never settled on the right length, but whatever, it just adds to the charm of them.

  29. Hmm.. you can just buy any old liner, I got mine from the army surplus store the buttons are on the jacket inner and the holes are in the liner so if it doesn’t fit, you can just unpick the buttons, put the liner on, put the jacket on, chalk the button holes onto the jacket and reposition the buttons.

  33. Hey @beautiful_FrEaK - in addition to the above discussion, the "for over 80 years" ticket also states Ten Ounce denim. Here's a 1945 flasher with a for over 80 years guarantee ticket. Levi's claim to have brought out the For over 70 years ticket in 1942, which makes this pair with the For over 80 years ticket from 1952 at least. But still with the 1945 flasher. Levi's have done this deliberately just to mess with our denim heads l reckon. This pair is owned by the Jukebox guy.

  38. Wash no. 4 or 5 I think, almost at the six-month mark Staring to see a little more in the way of whiskers, plus some nice oxidation on the rivets. The roping’s a little too intense for its own good; the hems are already wearing through at a few points!

  41. Nothing exciting, but got my jeans back from getting some darning work done and gave them a wash. Light was perfectly flat this morning and these pictures feel probably more accurate than most I’ve posted. Happy to have them back. Tracks starting to appear, still not much in the way of marbling, I think I’m probably past the point of that happening much. Little tiny blowouts starting to happen on the back of each knee - usually when that happens the honeycombs are more prominent but on this pair barely visible. Hem and pocket update for fun.

  42. @harls hard to say about stretch because I always have to order 1-2 size bigger to accommodate thighs. From what I can tell about the fabric, not as stretchy as the 20s or 50s IMO. Regardless, I find the waist on any Jean will always give a little after a couple wears.
