Slightly off topic here but worth mentioning… Wasn’t there a lack of clarity surrounding the actual weight of selvedge denim? I understand this is based on the fact that denim and other fabrics are (or were) generally attributed weight by the square yard, ie 12oz was theoretically the weight of a square yard of denim (pre-wash). However, I’ve heard the quoted weights for early Levi’s jeans were based upon a yard of fabric length, which would only have been approx 30” wide (from a shuttle loom) and therefore less than a square yard and consequently lighter. This may be why some of the early pairs (late 18th/early 19th centuries) were (possibly mis-) quoted as 9-10oz, whereas in reality, miners would have required something heavier and more resilient, perhaps more akin to the 12oz denim of the 40s pairs. By this possible miscalculation, a 10oz yard of denim was only 5/6th of a square yard (36” x 30”) and would actually equate to a 12oz square yard. Hopefully someone with more knowledge can confirm or deny.5 points

Has anyone else thought about how we might all get to experience WW3 denim first hand? (…too soon?)1 point

No of course not. I’m still shocked at the price of mid-life crisis bikes though. £7k for beginners! 🫣1 point

Again.. media was just an example.. (i can go back and replace the word media with the word arts if you like? ) My point was .. most companies who pay a decent salary are london-centric, In London you can work for the BBC.. (for example) up here you can earn minimum wage working at (for example) the Sports Direct distribution warehouse, the Amazon distribution warehouse, the e-buyer distribution warehouse or the Next distribution warehouse.. the world is your oyster. It's why SoaS, Clutch.. et'al exist in London.. you open SoaS in the north and it would close down within a month because folks don't have that type of disposible.1 point

Exactly. We go from Nine ounce in For over 60 (c.1932) years and then Ten Ounce in the For over 70 years (both types, c.1942) and the For over 80 years tickets(c.1952). Yet in the For over 85 years ticket, Levi's just put in made from 'Top weight denim', no actual weights were specified.1 point

Yeah I saw those as well. No mention of actual weight, yet "everyone" claims the denim got heavier in WW2 (and thereafter).1 point

Unless you’re a serious athlete or need specialist equipment, it doesn’t matter much. So many (usually men) are sucked into this world as part of their mid-life crisis - they have a bit of spare cash and can afford a £3k bike that they’ll never use to anything like its potential but do it anyway. I don’t have a bike anymore but if I decided to purchase one, I’d buy something cheap and ride it for a year to understand what, if any, sort of upgrade I’d want/need. In London so many bikes are stolen and, in certain ‘hotspot’ areas, like the Regents Park Outer Circle, riders of expensive bikes are frequently violently bike jacked by criminal gangs on mopeds.1 point

I received the SP62 today. They are indeed quite close to the SP28. They fit well and the waist drawstrings work well. Unlike the SP28, the material is "Nylon Stretch." which is an odd name because it doesn't stretch at all. It feels rather flimsy compared to DS. They are only available in black. Nevertheless, they are quite comfortable compared to the SP56A-M and are the best ACR shorts currently available.1 point

Most recent delivery. Late '45 601xx, I'll be waiting awhile to wash and wear these but it's tempting to throw 'em in the wash now... Obviously I'm a sucker for any and all Great Lakes Mfg. branded gear...1 point
