Some detail snaps: Never had a cinch like this before. Already learned the hard way that it needs to be in use, else it'll stab you in the leg when putting them on... Some loose yarns on the inner fly: A few quick fit snaps: After a small amount of wear I'm pretty sure that I've picked the correct size. We're in a heatwave here in London at the moment so my first outing in them was a brief one to the shops... here are measurements after a couple hours: Waist 42cm Front rise 32cm Back rise 40.5cm Hem 24.5cm16 points

@JohnM Thanks. I did see a San Francisco garter snake, which is always a joy. Lots of standard garter snakes around there, but the extra striping’s exciting to spot. Not during the pictured hike, but at the lake where we were staying, there was good avian variety: a bald eagle seemingly looking for a place to nest; two pairs of ospreys diving for fish almost nonstop; a family of ducks, the ducklings still in half down (below, swimming). Not much in the way of mammals around that area besides rodents and black bears.14 points

Yup it's all about what you get acclimated to, I don't mind wearing jeans in 100+F heat here since it's usually quite dry. Hell, I'll even go walk a golf course in those temps, not in jeans of course. But I think about riding a bike when it's this hot and I start sweating. But I see people here doing it all the time, so I'm sure I'd get used to it eventually. I'd just have to sell all my jeans and buy them all in a size down.2 points

Thanks for the suggestion @ATWM! I'd not heard of this, but Deborah had, and now I see it there's quite a bit of it around our neighbourhood. Deborah had already been thinking about getting some- she's developing our backyard into a very small native forest garden. Interesting! In the meantime, Lukas Mauve just wrote a lovely piece for his substack Present Forever (well worth a look through generally) here: https://presentforever.substack.com/p/the-tender-co-interview2 points

I often get out of the habit of posting outfits in warm weather, which is dumb because I think I have plenty of good summertime fits. Here's my TCB Late S40s jacket which I'm wearing part-time right now; the TFH Type II is currently hibernating after a wash. This jacket is amazing, I love the denim, fit, and details. It's a size 42, so I was pleasantly surprised that it's got a T-back design like a larger size Type I. The chinos are my second pair of Buzz Rickson Original Spec, I felt the top block on my original size 31 pair was too small, so I went up to size 33 and these fit perfect! Easily the best chinos I've worn. TCB Late S40s jacket, Lone Flag tee, Hollows Rail belt, Buzz Rickson Original Spec chinos, New Balance sneakers, MX73.2 points

Nothing exciting, but got my jeans back from getting some darning work done and gave them a wash. Light was perfectly flat this morning and these pictures feel probably more accurate than most I’ve posted. Happy to have them back. Tracks starting to appear, still not much in the way of marbling, I think I’m probably past the point of that happening much. Little tiny blowouts starting to happen on the back of each knee - usually when that happens the honeycombs are more prominent but on this pair barely visible. Hem and pocket update for fun.2 points

As seen above, we spent the past week up at a friend’s cabin on a dammed lake in the mid-Sierra, fed by the south fork of the Stanislaus River. More on that later. As a little sneak peek, here are some shots from a lovely morning hike that I took on Friday, feat. contest jeans, Great Lakes hat + shirt, JK boots. The original idea was to make my way up to the peak of nearby mountain, center background in this shot: The approach to the ridge was scrambly, but before too long I hit a trail that seemed to be going in the right direction. Left the trail again before too long to follow the sound of water, which turned out to be (I think) the nearby Herring Creek Climbed back uphill to the path through a couple hundred feet of chest-high bramble… …and made my way to a spectacular vista point From this last perspective, the peak I was planning on hiking up is to the far left. The gorge to the right feeds the inlet to the lake, seen above. It’s straightforward to hike from the lake part way up the gorge, up to around the large pool seen near the bottom right of the gorge photo. In the past, I’ve made my way up far enough to see the first of the heavily wooded sections (slightly right of center), but have never managed to get there from below because of how steep the walls get to either side of the river. Looking down from above, it seemed like it might be plausible to work my way down to the wooded section by following the shoulder of the ridge (a.k.a. the Large Granite Slab). This seemed to align much more closely with my interests than waking the rest of the way up the mountain, so I scrapped the original plan and plotted a rough course into the gorge. This ^ was the final approach, around 4–500 vertical ft. down a ~80% incline slab of fully exposed granite. Intimidating, but Komperdell, JK, and lots of experience off trail in the Sierra were on my side. The oasis at the bottom was well worth the anxiety at the top. Some of the absolute prettiest water features I’ve ever seen. Stopped for lunch and a beer (ca. 10 am…time runs different in the mountains) and made my way back down to known territory.2 points

Very good fit in my opinion ^ I think the cinch bit you for the audacity of thinking about not using it.1 point

Just reorganizing all my FW ephemera, they had largely been left disorganized but loosely grouped by sub label. Largest count of the lot are the Power Wear items (tees, sweats, etc.) followed by Union Special and Great Lakes. Didn't have the wherewithal to get a total count, but maybe one day. I did take note that my oldest item is from 2013.1 point
