  9. @PrettyBoyTony Yes I've had a pair for a few years now and they are probably my favorite jeans, much more roomy and overall a more balanced fit than the 710 imo. The denim is not very similar to Resolute, less fluffy when new and doesn't fade into the same sky-blue color as the 710. Has a bit of a green cast reminiscent of older Levi's from the early 60s and 50s. The Sugar Cane 66 feels like a repro of an older jean than the Resolute 710.

  10. Listen up people.. I'm making a list of past sufu trends Did you jump onboard or not../ how fking sufu actually are you? My inclination is probably not much but we’ll see. I was pretty much too broke to spend more than 30$ on jeans from TJ Maxx up until around 2016 when I had a decent year and also visited Raleigh Denim for the first time for a job - that was a year after I visited the Horween Tannery in Chicago. Those two things coalescing led to me appreciating and spending more on clothes. But I am nowhere close to an OG - I saw a lot of these trends in Chicago at that time and let’s say most just didn’t appeal to me from a purely aesthetic perspective. Size down craze.. No Slept in jeans.. Not in my Sufu days. A few times during some backpacking trips, and only out of necessity. Diors.. No Fancy wallet.. No Engineer boots.. Emphatic no, lol Ocean wash.. No Resolute washing / fit having previously not.. I just wash when stuff feels like it needs it and really don’t think too hard about how it turns out? Never washing.. Not really, I’ve gone maybe 4 months at best Coffee wash.. No Slubby or streaky.. I did own some PBJ’s for a time. And SC Edo AI’s I still own. Heavy oz denimz.. Those PBJ’s were 18 oz. I think 18oz is considered heavy so yes. Joined a contest.. Just this year! Joined a tour.. No APC.. No Fancy washing detergent.. No Worn denim while raw.. No..though upon further reflection probably yes with a sanforized pair once. Paid for an expensive repair.. No Wallet jewelry.. No Numerous pairs of very expensive boots.. What is Very Expensive? I have a few pairs of what I think are nice leather boots, but nothing I paid more than $400 for - so, not on par with what seems to be the norm? Numerous pairs of identical jeans.. Nothing identical, the closest is the same pair in 2 different sizes. Other close calls for sure - same cuts in different denims etc. Numerous fancy leather belts.. No. Native American Japanese jewelry.. No Jacket suitable for the Arctic.. Not Sufu approved, but I live in Michigan, so yea I have a heavy parka. It’s from Everlane. Unreadable Japanese language magazines.. No Dressed like a sailor.. No Dressed like a miner.. No Dressed like an urban lumberjack.. No, I don’t think so. Have you ever seen me in a flannel? Mill repro.. No Dressed like a railway worker.. No Stacked.. No Starch..No Freezer.. No Fancy socks.. Nothing Sufu, but I swear by wool, esp mohair socks. Again, this is more me being in Michigan, not a Sufu thing. Handmade English shoes.. No Whites Semi Dress.. No Discharge print.. No Own less than 10% of the clothing you bought since joining.. No Photo of jeans in bathtub.. No, they’ve always gone in a utility sink. Wore jeans wet..No. Damp, yes. £2000 leather jacket..No Numerous repro denim jackets all from same era.. Absolutely yes Bought jeans nobody else owned.. On Sufu, sure. The world? Probably not. Barf / Man stain / Shit oneself in jeans.. no Colored weft denim: I’ve had both black weft and garment dyed jeans Attended a meet up? No

  12. I watched that Wim Wenders film 'Perfect Days' earlier.. i really enjoyed it, it's an ode to unpretentious Japanese minimalism.. a story of Hirayama, who cleans toilets and finds pleasure in the simple beauties of life.. listening to old cassette tapes, riding his bike, books and photographing trees. It's lovely.. i like those slice of life films where nothing actually happens. In stark contrast.. i'm currently at Unit with the boy I've ordered fried chicken & canadian bacon.. served on a freshly baked waffle with maple syrup.. ..outside, is some Bladerunner-esque, lit brutalism

  23. If you'd been wandering around a desert of distressed bootcuts and found the oasis of sufu in 2010 there is no doubt that you were the coolest kid in the Georgia burbs .. don't be ashamed of that superiority complex! I was never down with the sufu fits back then but this place was still without a doubt the pinnacle of the denim world..

  24. All good points @Double 0 Soul, at the time I had just discovered raw denim (around late 2009) and wearing Nudie Thin Finns, after having spent the previous 5-6 years buying most of my clothes from places like Urban Outfitters because I just didn't know any better 😅 It's hard to know much about style when you've spent your adolescence in the north Georgia suburbs and everybody is wearing distressed bootcut jeans from Abercrombie or Hollister or whatever, it's a shame I didn't yet know friend/partner-in-crime/fellow local denim nerd @xchen back then as he would have surely set me straight. In that context, being the only guy I knew wearing skinny jeans made me feel much cooler than everyone else, though in retrospect I was certainly a bit full of myself. I really got started on the now-pretty-much-dead MyNudies forum from 2009-2011, SuFu was very intimidating back then. The bar of entry to denim nerdery is a lot lower than it was 15 years ago, with lots of affordable Japanese options in all kinds of fits. From what I've seen of 2000s Sufu (long after the fact), I really like the sort of streetwear inspired looks where somebody would wear a cool graphic tee with Sugar Cane Okinawas and Nike Air Force Ones and that sort of thing. I still think that looks good and it's aged a lot better to me than the skinny fit urban lumberjack look of hipster yore.

  25. My initial thoughts when i clicked on that^^ link was that was beatle I suppose.. that's the thing with forums.. it only takes a handfull of prolific posters to shift the entire look of the herd. I'm not sure i'd even describe that^ look as 'general hipster' i'd describe it as 'sufu 2010'.. it was a very particular aesthetic.. i never saw anyone in the wild dressing the sufu way back then.. we had plenty of hipsters who wore skinny-ass jeans but it was a world away from the 2010 sufu uniform. The aesthetic here has obviously changed over the years.. it's down to the contributors rather than fashion influence.. all it takes is a few of the regulars to start wearing something different and within 12mths we will all be wearing the same shit.. in the world of the normies, we're individuals but in the microcasm of sufu.. wees just sheep In 2012 when we were all on shore leave the Mister Freedom thread got bumped by the minute.. it hasn't been bumped in over a year.. all it would take is a couple of enthusiastic posters and the CPO shirts will be back up to a thousand quid!

  26. Couple shots of the raw fit. If this is banner, I know I'm in for hecka shrinkage, but I really like the rise, I hope it stays as lengthy as it was raw. Waist will be fine, the thighs will need a bit of caution as always. @Maynard Friedman the red tab held up pretty well. They're now in the wash!

  27. Next prewash update Ooe Yofukuten Lot OA01XX-0522: The pair feels very light and extremely comfortable on the body (sometimes I feel Zimbabwe cotton like FC), fit well on the body, joyful experience Thread count, thread color and stitches per inch are well balanced throughout the pair and helps create an elegant look and feel. Consistent placement of iPhone in right front pocket has left marks of usage (not very prominent) Whiskers are prominent Buttons have become shiny (couldn't capture well by camera) Usage of wallet in left back pocket developed marks, waiting for blowout with more usage Nice puckering on back pockets and yoke raised loops have started fading nicely I liked slight puckering of waist band (maybe I will not like extensive puckering) raised loop like double stitching, from crotch area to yoke with raised cloth , caused similar character like "raised loops fading" (either deliberate by OA or incidental , though very nice). leather patch still intact and very soft like silk train tracks are prominent copper rivets at pockets have started change in color honey combs the best roping, I have experienced so far among all Japanese Raw Denim pairs I have though not well captured by camera but stitching on inseam looks very elegant An unwanted crease during 1st wash also got prominent (my mistake during first wash)

  29. I have a pair of Banner Denim and a pair of 50s with similar amount of wear. TCB 50s Duck Digger 1947 im currently on a trip but I can take some more laid flat photos once I’m home if it would be helpful. Whiskering is more pronounce on the Banner, while the TCB have some more highlights through the look chatter/slub. WH is probably more marbled overall but there’s some nice marbling around the TCB pockets and really nice puckering.

  38. I bought the J100-FO. It is huge and I mean HUGE! I normally wear an XL in most ACR jackets but I looked at the measurements and "Wide" fit description so I bought an M. It is still very big with plenty of room for a fleecy or insulated jacket underneath. I could have gone to a small. It is very light and thin and I suspect it could be easily damaged by a sharp object. I have the FO insulated trench coat (I can't remember the model id;) and my dog jumped up on me and scarred the side of the coat with his claws. However, he didn't tear it and it doesn't leak but it is clearly damaged. On-the-whole, I like the jacket. It is very cool-looking; if you like the loose wrinkly look! 🙂 Just size down and keep your dogs nails trimmed . . . or teach him not to jump!

  40. Quick update on my 132D, which are still pretty filthy after their first machine wash in a few months … it’s interesting how different the colour is coming out compared to my previous Tender jeans, all of which were washed biweekly at least throughout their life cycle. These have probably five months of wear now.

  41. Next, shirts. Before I tried anything else from Tender Co., I was a big fan of their wool & mohair socks. I thought that the rest of the clothes were a little too out there for me (go figure). At some point in maybe 2017 or 2018, I was in Standard & Strange and they asked if I wanted to try out one of the shirts. It wasn’t for sale—I think they’d stopped even stocking Tender Co., by that point, besides maybe belts and socks—but I guess another regular had dropped it off as a pay-it-forward sort of deal, just in hopes that it would find a happy home. It was some or other version of (I think) the Type 423 Wallaby shirt, and at that point in grad school I wasn’t going to say no to a free fancy shirt. I started trying to work it into my style, and before too long a switch flipped and I “got it”. I’m still really thankful to whomever dropped the shirt at S&S, and to the staff who was working that day and saw fit to pass it on to me (sadly, I’ve long forgotten who that would’ve been). Through them, a long-term appreciation & obsession were born. The shirt in question was eventually joined by 2x Type 492 Bench Shirts, in indigo chambray tote cloth + in henna handkerchief check; the Type 452 Bridge Pocket Square Tail Shirt, in Hadal green Herdwick stripe casement; the Type 445 Short Sleeved Boomerang Shirt, in Prussian blue carding cloth. (Not shown is a Type 420 Long Sleeve Tail Shirt, in walnut cotton tote, which I almost like quite a bit, but rarely end up wearing in practice, I think because of the bright red buttons. I’ve also sadly had to pass a couple others on due to inconsistent sizing.)
