Self Edge x Dry Bones x Superfuture x Styleforum = SEXDBXSXS12

One of the most popular jeans we've carried since we opened was the first collaboration we did with Dry Bones and Superfuture two years ago. We've decided to expand on the theme of a forum based jean with a bigger project including Styleforum and a 22oz denim that Dry Bones have woven for this jean.

The SEXDBXSXS12 jean has been produced by Dry Bones, one of Japan's longest running vintage Americana style denim manufacturers. The jean is made up of a rope-dyed 22oz unsanforized selvedge denim consisting of a combination of Texas & San Joaquin Valley cotton fibers creating a rigid denim that's slightly hairy, but not slubby, because we requested that the denim not be singed and calendered. The indigo dyed yarn has a sulfur top to create a super dark indigo color that crocks fairly easily with normal wear. The jean has heavy-weight hickory striped pocket bags, military grade green rear pocket linings, coin pocket selvedge, cotton poly-core stitch, hidden rivets, and two leather patches. The Superfuture patch was designed by JimmyC of Superfuture and the Styleforum patch was designed by Brian SD, you can easily remove one of the two patches leaving the one you like better. The fit is a slim fit with with a bit of taper and a medium rise, graded to look great in all sizes.

Superfuture, a website dedicated to the finer points of shopping, traveling, garments, and more was launched in 1999 by Wayne Berkowitz and Simon Kristoph. Hailing from Australia, their website took on a life of it's own within a few years, and five years in was already home to one of the largest databases of information about garments, and to be more specific, denim.
Superfuture offers the world a frequently updated set of traveling maps, a listing with reviews of over 1000 shops around the world which are "Superfuture Approved", a blog updated with cutting edge events around the world, and a forum called Supertalk which at times overshadows the other services Superfuture offers.

Styleforum was founded in 2002 in reaction to the poorly run, corporation-owned, men's style discussion forums of the day. Founder Jeremy Jackson and his partner Fok-Yan Leung, who started posting on the forum as a way to procrastinate from writing his doctoral thesis, see Styleforum as a dive bar populated by guys who also happen to really like clothes, often to the point of obsession. A few discussion rooms have been added to the forum since 2002, discussing anything from travel to food, but these are still guys who want to be wearing the best clothes no matter what they are doing.

This jean is limited to 250 pairs between our three stores, once sold out there will be no restocks.

The SEXDBXSXS12 jean will be released at Self Edge San Francisco, Self Edge New York, and Self Edge Los Angeles at Noon (Local Time) on Saturday, December 4th.
The jeans will also be available online at 10am (PST) the same day in the online store.

Check our online store for more information on this jean, a complete specification list, measurements, and hi-res photos:

That pair that sidneylo is wearing is hemmed to the perfect length. Looks like he found his next pair of jeans for after the SExIH07BK.

Jeans look great, but damn 22oz is heavy to rock nonstop year round. Yet I still find myself lusting for a pair...

*edit* OK, so those haven't been hemmed, just cuffed. Still, those jeans fit great. BTW, love the banner for the jeans on SuFu.

What exactly does this mean (singed and calendered.)? I've always heard of it but was never clear on what it meant.

Singing is a process where all the excess hairs are burnt off the surface of the denim.
Calendering is better explained on this Wiki page than how i would try and explain it: http://en.wikipedia....iki/Calendering

OK, I understand why denim would be singed, but what's the point of calendering, especially on STF? Just to make the denim sort of shiny before the first soak? That seems useless.

I love the pocket bags on these, btw. Hickory stripe is always good. Can we get a shot of the "military grade green rear pocket linings"?

Man, i really really want these, but I just don't think my thighs will put up with it. The BSPs are already tight on my thighs, and these are about a half inch skinnier.

that being said, next pair of jeans will absolutely have lined back pockets for me. I'm sick of my wallet and phone destroying my denimmmmz

EDIT: where 2 cop skinny asian legs? I WANT THESE jeans. damnit.

You should read the page better. The description states:

Unsinged - Uncalendared

Therefore a) the denim is hairy as it is unsinged and B) it's unsanforized thus making calendering completely useless. That's why it is uncalendered. Because everyone needs to soak them first.

^^ Well to me it sounded like HoustonChris thought that the SExDBxSxS12 was singed and calendered which it isn't, thus why I clarified. Didn't mean it to come off as a criticism, maybe misinterpreted his comment. Those processes seam fine for denim from collaborations such as SExI04 and denim from say Ande Whall that are not STF. I like sanforized denim that is smooth and has a slight sheen.

And the SExDBxS09 had canvas lined pockets (as seen here) so I guess these would be exactly the same.

To clarify, I understand that the collab is unsinged and unsanforized- after all, it was right there in the description of the jeans.:) Kiya then helpfully explained the terms for yo_mj 2 posts above mine. My question was more general in nature, as in "Why would jeans ever be calendered?", since the Wikipedia entry states that the effect doesn't last very long, especially if the fabric gets wet. Re-reading, I concede that I could have been a bit more clear about that. My bad.

Since I thought I might be straying a little too far off topic, I tried to bring my post back around with the second part about the pockets. Thanks for the picture of the SExDBxS09, by the way, Cents.:)

Re-reading your post, I now realize you were asking a general question. I thought you hadn't read the description properly and thus had got the wrong end of the stick with regards to the DB12, which is why I clarified that the 12 is unsinged and uncalendered.

Hopefully this now makes Cents :)

Same here, everything is perfect except the thighs :(

Mine usually stretch to ~12" thigh, will a tagged 32 (11.5" thigh) stretch for me?

Happened to be in SESF the other day after these came in. The denim is the real deal - it feels serious and looks serious. It has the distinctly deep coloring of denim that has been thoroughly saturated with indigo. Didn't try 'em on but the details are also top notch (as you would expect).

Great job by Kiya, JimmyC, (and of course DB.)
