the thit nam was unbelievable, the family owned a butcher shop next door so the meat was beyond tender.

last night in the delta, this fish, not sure of the name, but the scales pop up and you eat them wrapped in rice paper and noodles. You can eat the tail whole too. beyond fucking fantastic, the only reason I went down there.

so the story behind the numerous unopened packs of happydent revolve around a street peddling girl that walks around my hotel street. normally I'm ok with saying no to street peddler, young, old, etc. but #1 this girl's english is impeccable, no big feat for someone here, and #2 she's fucking relentless. she never gives up. she's like the john d rockafeller of saigon, ready to make her millions, one pack of gum at a time. I for one, admire the hustle.

took some friends to pasteur yesterday

A peek into a weekend of feasting.

Friday night feast. Kare-kare. Incredibly good with the usual tripe and shoulder bits, the cuts of tail just put it over the top.

3780786576_2d468e0ff3.jpg

By Saturday, it was Sodom and Gomorrah levels. First up was the Lechon.

3779977043_a124dcd237.jpg

In all its porky, half massacred, goodness. Skin so crispy, it shatters.

3780791012_ed1babdc56.jpg

The usual accompaniment, Pancit Palabok.

3780793076_e0ef8fae10.jpg

And even more Lechon, it almost looks like pulled pork in this one.

3779983257_c3698bd401.jpg

Something wiki worthy, It's a native fruit "Santol", which apparently is Wild Mangosteen in Engrish. The usually inedible skin is diced, then simmered down in coconut milk, pork bits, and green chilis. Spicy, hot, and rich, it's got this odd cleansing flavor to it that makes for a great in between bite.

3780797180_bf00c057a7.jpg

Followed up with frozen "Brazo De Mercedes".

3780799002_c4cd5a3852.jpg

Caramelized Sago and Bananas, meant to be eaten in a bowl of crushed ice and condensed milk.

3779989231_a6df16f29a.jpg

Whats left of the Sans Rival.

3779991327_2be6ba1cbb.jpg

And if that wasn't enough they decided to serve "merienda" a couple hours later. Dinuguan, which is basically a traditional pork blood stew of ears, stomach, and neglected pig parts. The right amount of vinegar and chilis just makes this dish too good to be missed. It's mean to be eaten with the Puto/ricecakes beside it.
