Extraordinary indeed - a million quid for a characterless box in Sheffield? Do they not realise we are in a huge recession?! The mind boggles...

I’ll bet Bartles likes it though :laugh2:

the 3d mock up looks exactly like the mine crafted clone zone housing that is being used in the areas where they tore down estates in Elephant & Castle... strange that this is the new architectural style of the era...

Maynard, we have one of those near me! It just recently became one of the most popular vacation rentals in Huntington Beach, CA.

I have an unnatural desire to live in something like this. I would want steps that could be retracted or pulled up though.

I have investigated living in a lighthouse in the past also.

Cool thread, I'll bite.  I've moved a lot, never really living anywhere longer than 5 years, although I claim the American Midwest as home.  The past ~15 months I've been in Cambridge, Massachusetts and I've gotta say...it's gorgeous here.

If you're unfamiliar, Cambridge is in the greater Boston metro area, and is just across the Charles river from Boston.  I took this during a January run along the Charles, looking over at Boston.

The whole state (and really the whole Northeast) is much more arboreal and lush that I could have imagined.  Looking at the Boston skyline from a local preserve, the Middlesex Fells.

Cambridge is home to two of the most prestigious universities in the world, Harvard and MIT.  I've been living smack dab between the two, which is a neat and occasionally surreal experience (going to lunch and overhearing a group of data scientists talking about removing bias in artificial intelligence, seeing MIT kids pointing a laptop with arduino and antennae at passing cars for unknown reasons, etc).  You can easily take the bike path along the Charles to run or bike between the two schools.  It's a very popular path with some pretty bridges along it, such as this one near Harvard.

To me as a Midwesterner, the neighborhoods in this part of Cambridge are fascinating.  I've never seen so many home with so much history, elegance, and character.  This is my favorite house in Cambridge, from a few blocks over.

Another favorite, until they removed all the vines last week.

A park down the street.  The hydrangeas have been insane lately.

Another neat house nearby, check out that window.

Sadly, the gorgeous architecture and prestigious universities come with some truly shocking price tags (median home price in Cambridge is $1.45 million, making it the most expensive city in greater Boston).  With my wife and I planning on starting our family soon, we wanted to be closer to relatives and somewhere we could actually afford to own: we're happy to be closing on our new house in Illinois next week.  It's going to be a sizeable increase from our current 399 sq ft apartment, which has proven quite....cramped...in recent months.  Follow up pictures of the new neighborhood would be downright depressing in comparison, however. ;)

That view of Boston skyline is almost the same angle but further back from the site in Cambridge I was working last year. Fantastic city.

A pulley/hoist/dumb waiter type system would resolve or assist in all the scenarios

In the arts tower in Sheff we still have the tallest working paternoster lift in Europe, it's great fun! no doors, no wait time just a continuous moving loop which you jump on and off when you get to your desired floor while its still moving.. when you get to the top/bottom it carries you around the loop and back down/up t'other way B)

Bit more mincrafting at the top of our road, it's nestled inbetween the often listed Victorian houses of Ranmoor so to avoid offending the view they've built it partially underground and surrounded it with trees...

Astroturf would have been within keeping rather than shitty grass

Looking like one of them holiday complex they chucked up on the Greek islands during the 80's, just needs a white plastic patio set.

It's got what looks like a seperate underground survival bunker/baby panda sanctury... i would have really gone for a lava moat instead of pebbles.

And a couple from just off the High Street (the artwork is where you see the figure at the Pende Cafe) and Kirk Square - Robert Burns was supposed to have stayed there and that tenuous link encouraged the local dignitaries to erect a statue of him at the library right across the road. The statue is by Dundee sculptor Scott Sutherland who may be better known for his work of the Commando Memorial.

There was a young man called Duodequinquagesimus, who joined Superfuture to cause a ruckus.

His dodgy boots were the envy of all, not to mention pointy toes galore.

It turns out he’s a golfing ninja, but now & then a bit of a whinger. When we tried to learn his style, he just went proper wild.

Let’s all pay close heed, ‘cos one does not need, a kick in the balls from them there pointy toes.

We really never mean to offend, as you’re our new Superfuture friend.

Isn’t it in Seal/Sunset Beach right next to Taco Surf?

Grew up in a small beach town on the west coast of Michigan, headed to Southern California for college and a few years after. Took an opportunity that relocated me almost as far away as you can get in the continental US to Boston.

Met an amazing woman randomly one day who was visiting friends. When our NYC-Boston every other weekends weren’t working anymore, I found a job in NYC, and rented a truck to move everything again haha.

Flash forward 7 years, we are married and settled in southern Westchester NY. These are from our favorite walking loop, mainly focused on the architecture of the homes (I’m an architect and love how the neighborhoods are set up).

I forget how many trees there are.F2215192-88C7-45C5-8117-A87227F5B5EC.thumb.jpeg.4b8e692345808c5a66a85759c9ada1a7.jpeg7F472AAD-895B-4214-8990-301FA44B781A.thumb.jpeg.63f4322b04b5658647c4cd1f9bbe1c17.jpeg73375C5B-EE3E-42F9-BD46-3EE8DB63CA3D.thumb.jpeg.cba17edf1460f2642ad3c5c5b7a856a2.jpeg96682841-250F-49B6-8041-CBE34B38B8B2.thumb.jpeg.05c2aff73258acb132385cd3c867bb94.jpeg9A22450A-2A7F-4B75-99EF-408AFA0AF224.thumb.jpeg.e9ee3b8c80dc39745869f6975249b40f.jpeg629B4574-5E7A-4C8F-A5E0-B5D20C69EFC3.thumb.jpeg.0a26a72e7f39bc54a38f533c4353a5e2.jpeg248CC13C-B56A-4DE0-BB0F-ED699EEFDA63.thumb.jpeg.e3f2741a84a04eea2dcf71734ec97fd3.jpeg461180E3-54EE-4107-8084-75D97B0D24E0.thumb.jpeg.bb42b51d5d1a0e49bf2c19e83508d47d.jpegC59ACF11-D5AB-4E6D-88F5-FBA9D79ED0C0.thumb.jpeg.52ae29c4310cdcb89d00f11f265a77bf.jpegD1AD0A5E-A0B3-4B3D-984B-BB8131715064.thumb.jpeg.3f4d649a1fc246c1fdb4f4ef8a7368de.jpeg9AD34061-86F4-49E2-A3AF-9A0666249930.thumb.jpeg.aaebf097a41ed8f2aaddb6efadc918a2.jpeg26667130-2559-4BA1-ACFA-968D5C97AB0B.thumb.jpeg.21d7e9b582844c1fef0264c30be58593.jpeg
