I always liked the brutalist extension to the town hall in Sheffield (The Egg Box)

...folks hated it so they demolished it in 2002

Using the mock Tudor Howard pub^ as a bearing, this is taken from the same (Park Hill flats) vantage point today...ugh!

Yes.. this unimaginative rectangle with the convex roof..  behind/to the right is the 'Winter Gardens (a tropical plant/cacti house) it's a nice space where folks go to chill, do Tai-chi, yoga and such.

Here’s the neighbourhood. 
 

Immediately outside the door step. Our row are typical Victorian semis with nice bay windows. Neighbours with original sash windows get bonus points (bastards...) 

The big Georgian buggers down the bottom of the street  

And then there’s the haunted mansion at No 13. 

Fort Royal Park is at the end of the street. The park itself is nothing remarkable, but it was the site of the final battle of the English Civil War (the one where the king ran off to France like a pussy). As such we’re treated to some naff replica cannons

What the history books don’t tell you was that they were seemingly all off their tits during the war. Look at this chap!

 

It can get pretty weird in the park during Summer as the battle re-enactment oddballs turn up. Hopefully the virus will keep them away this year. Every cloud has a silver lining and all that. 

The walk to town has some pretty neat olde worlde streets

The cathedral with Edward Elgar looking on, thinking about writing another hit record. 

 

The cathedral’s claim to fame is that Henry VIII’s older brother is buried there, Prince Arthur Tudor who died at only 15. If he’d have stuck around there would be no Church of England, the Navy wouldn’t be double hard and we’d have never known that if you fancy changing your wife you just lop the old one’s head off (to a maximum of 6).

...and extra bonus points besides for those with the original rippled Victorian glass, my 101yr old next door neighbour for one who has lived in his house since 1954 without ever getting modern glazing.

I’ve no idea why Birmingham is much maligned. I hear it’s twinned with Middlesbrough you know!

We ordered a load of food from some barbecue place , ribs , wings and whatnot ... yer man arrived with a chicken burger . I explained the order being wrong ( wasn't aggressive or cheeky ) and instead of saying " sorry about that mate , I'll see what I can do " all i got was " not my problem bruv " and it devolved from there . He ended up shoving the bag into my chest so i hit him , first one hit his scooter helmet (  probably where I hurt my hand ) but the second was pretty flush 

Misses was shitting herself in the hotel waiting for the police to show up

A few years ago there was a fund raiser/public arts event where they gave out elephants to artists so they could paint them up and they were auctioned off with the proceeds going to the Childrens Hospital, i thought that was one of the strays through pre-coffee eyes

Reminds me of this Neal ...

Maybe some of you guys know this cartoon character - probably mostly not - but he’s famous in Scotland and was ‘born’ in Dundee just a few miles from me (although strangely his creator was a Lancashire man)

Anyway as you’ll see from the link the character was used to create dozens of statues in different guises all in different locations raising funds for Scotland’s children’s hospital charities. The Duchess and I saw this version on a weekly basis taking Ellie into Ninewells hospital
