Cleaning out my parents home of 30 years is seriously challenging my shopping habits. I've got piles and piles of stuff, the random shit nobody wants and doesn't sell at garage sales. Shit like porcelain pig desk trinkets, those cheap plastic fake Hawaiian leis, partially functional sun umbrellas, audio tapes of Pablo Cruise, what seems like 1,000 spatulas and at least 80 cans of old hardened paint. There's 100 tennis balls here and nobody in the family has ever played tennis. Just the shit you accumulate over 30+ years of suburban life. Really wanting to live a minimal existence after doing this.

anyone else put money into bitcoins? starting late-january i started by putting ~$2100 in. then $3000 twice in february, so $8100 total. i have ~320 bitcoins (a bit more). they're valued at $36.73 each now. the value has appreciated quite a bit and i've done basically nothing. since i have $11753.6 "worth" right now, that's a $3653.6 net gain. i want to gradually start taking a bit out at a time, but not sure when i should start. it's pretty unstable but the trend is definitely up for the time being. i just don't want to be caught in a crash, which is definitely possible. all in all it's fucking awesome though

lately i've been having fun guessing which spam headings are for viagra and which are for stock trading. this week:

Maybe slowly ween out your initial investment so if there is a crash you only end up losing your net gain... which sucks a lot less.

yeah this is my strategy. still a bit hard to take money out when you feel like it's going to keep going up. anyway, i wrote that last night and i checked this morning and they were at $40. holy fuck. this is insane. i feel weird talking about these things as a legitimate way to make money, but this i'm 'making' WELL above the average american's yearly income at this rate. i sold $1000 worth (~25 bitcoins). will gradually take them out, but still want to let them appreciate enough first so that i'm left with a lot of bitcoins. i constantly check the price so i think that even if they crashed i would probably be able to sell out before the prices bottomed out. and at the same time, they are supposed to be a currency, and people do use them to buy drugs and shit on the silk road (maybe people use them for legitimate purposes too, i dunno), so they are at least tied to something to prevent that (unless the silk road went down i guess, nvm).
